I recently had an Interlock roof system installed on my home the last week of April 2007. I am extremely pleased with my new roof. It looks awesome. The installers had quite a challenge working around the weather that week. They were only off by about 3 hours from the time they said they would finish. That in itself is remarkable considering the heavy rains they had to contend with. They were hard workers and very polite. They cleaned up their industrial mess as well as some of my own winter mess. My experience with Interlock Industries from the initial phone call, to the sales representative as well as the installers was like working with old friends. I would recommend Interlock Industries and their products to anyone without hesitation. I do not make referrals often, because I feel my word of recommendation is a sacred trust. I rate my experience A+ with Interlock. I know I am going to enjoy my new roof for a long time.

Top 10 Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Gig Harbor

Homeowners researching metal roofing in Gig Harbor often have several important questions before replacing their roof. Many people want to understand how metal roofing compares to traditional materials like asphalt shingles in terms of lifespan, durability, cost, and long-term value. Roofing decisions can also be influenced by local weather conditions. Homes in Gig Harbor may experience environmental factors such as rain, wind, snow, heat, fire, or seasonal storms that can impact roof performance over time. The following frequently asked questions help explain what homeowners should know when evaluating metal roofing and why many people choose durable roofing systems designed for long-term protection.

How long will a metal roof last in Gig Harbor, WA?

In Gig Harbor a quality metal roof commonly lasts at least 50–75+ years, while asphalt shingles typically last 15–30 years depending on product and exposure. Gig Harbor’s wet, coastal climate—with roughly 37–46 inches of annual rainfall—drives persistent moisture, moss/lichen growth, and higher humidity that accelerate asphalt deterioration and underlayment rot if not detailed properly. Winters are mild with very low snow loads, so corrosion resistance and protection from coastal salt and wind are more important than heavy snow capacity. For homeowners comparing materials, metal’s longevity, low maintenance, and resistance to moss, rot, and wind uplift make it a common choice in Gig Harbor. Interlock Metal Roofing systems use heavy-gauge aluminum and include a lifetime limited 50-year transferable warranty designed for long-term coastal protection.

How much does it cost to install a metal roof in Gig Harbor, WA?

In Gig Harbor, WA, a metal roof typically costs more upfront than asphalt shingles. Final price depends on roof size, slope and complexity, whether old roofing must be torn off, flashing and skylight work, and local labor and permit costs. Gig Harbor’s marine climate and local construction labor rates can also affect material choices and installation pricing. Many homeowners look beyond initial price and compare options by lifetime value: metal roofs often have higher durability and lower maintenance needs, which can cut future repair and replacement costs. A well-installed metal system can resist wind, shedding and corrosion better than lower-cost alternatives, reducing long-term expenses. Interlock Metal Roofing focuses on long-term ownership value—providing durable, low-maintenance systems designed to minimize lifetime costs—rather than trying to be the lowest-priced roofing option.

Should I choose metal roofing or asphalt shingles for my Gig Harbor home?

Gig Harbor’s coastal, high‑precipitation climate—roughly 40–48 inches of rain yearly—with persistent humidity encourages moss/algae growth and prolonged wetness on roofs. Lifespan: Metal typically lasts 40–70+ years; asphalt shingles about 15–30 years. Maintenance: Metal needs occasional inspections and clearing of debris; asphalt requires more frequent moss/algae cleaning and spot repairs. Durability: Metal resists rot, wind uplift, and granule loss that coastal moisture accelerates; asphalt can delaminate and trap moisture. Long‑term value: Metal has higher upfront cost but lower life‑cycle replacement and maintenance expenses, so homeowners prioritizing durability and long‑term protection often choose metal roofing. Interlock Metal Roofing systems appeal in Gig Harbor because interlocking panels provide watertight seams, corrosion‑resistant finishes for coastal moisture, long service life, and strong architectural curb appeal.

Are metal roofs noisy when it rains in Gig Harbor?

This is a common myth in Gig Harbor, WA. Modern residential metal roofs installed over solid decking do not sound like barn roofs. Sound depends on the full roof assembly—insulation, attic ventilation, underlayment, and decking all absorb and dampen rain noise. A well-insulated attic and quality underlayment make rain comparable to other roofing materials such as asphalt or tile. Installation quality matters: secure fastening, proper flashings, and continuous deck eliminate flapping and vibration that cause noise. Properly installed residential metal roofs are typically similar in sound to other roofs. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are installed as complete roofing systems designed for residential homes, incorporating profile, underlayment, and fastening for consistent performance.

How energy-efficient are metal roofs in Gig Harbor?

Yes—metal roofing can be energy efficient in Gig Harbor. Metal panels reflect sunlight, reducing summer heat gain and lowering cooling loads. Overall energy performance depends on the whole roof assembly: underlayment, insulation depth, and attic ventilation control heat flow and moisture. In Gig Harbor’s mild maritime climate—cool, wet winters and moderate summers—reflectivity helps during warmer periods, while proper insulation and ventilation minimize winter heat loss and condensation. Homeowners researching roof replacement prioritize energy efficiency to lower utility bills, increase comfort, prevent moisture damage, and enhance resale or rebate eligibility. A reflective roof alone isn’t enough; correct assembly and installation are critical. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are designed to support durable, long-term home performance and energy-conscious roof assemblies.

How does metal roofing in Gig Harbor, WA withstand wind, hail, and severe weather?

Q: How does metal roofing perform in Gig Harbor, WA severe weather? A: Gig Harbor experiences frequent heavy rain, coastal storm winds, and occasional severe thunderstorms that can bring hail and damaging gusts, so roof resilience matters for local homes. Strong southwest winds with gusts (commonly 20–30 mph, sometimes higher during storms) and episodic hail are reported in the area, stressing roof systems. Metal roofing can resist wind uplift, shed heavy rain, and tolerate hail better than many materials, but real performance depends on system design, installer quality, and material durability. Homeowners prioritize weather resilience to lower repair costs and protect interiors. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are engineered for durability, hail protection, and wind resistance, making them a suitable choice for Gig Harbor’s coastal and storm-prone conditions.

Will a metal roof rust or corrode in Gig Harbor's wet climate?

Corrosion and rust resistance are critical for metal roofing in Gig Harbor, WA’s wet, coastal climate. Metal roofing performance depends on the metal type—steel, zinc, copper and aluminum behave differently over time—and some materials are inherently more corrosion-resistant. Aluminum performs especially well in wet or salt‑air environments because it naturally forms a protective oxide layer and resists rust. Homeowners should prioritize corrosion resistance to avoid premature coating failure, staining, leaks and higher maintenance or replacement costs. Interlock Metal Roofing systems use aluminum construction engineered for strong corrosion resistance, and they’re further protected by the proprietary Alunar Coating System for extra durability against moisture and salt exposure. Choosing corrosion‑resistant materials improves longevity, lowers lifetime costs and maintains curb appeal.

How often should I inspect and maintain my metal roof in Gig Harbor?

Metal roofing in Gig Harbor, Washington is generally considered a low‑maintenance, durable option suited to the regional climate. That said, no roof is completely maintenance‑free. Homeowners should inspect their metal roof periodically—after major storms, heavy wind, or seasonal debris—to spot loose panels, fasteners, damaged flashing, or problem penetrations (vents, chimneys, skylights). Clear leaves and branches from the roof and gutters to prevent water pooling and corrosion; ensure flashing and sealants remain intact and that screws or clips are secure. Promptly address any dents, fastener back‑out, or seal failures to preserve performance and warranty coverage. Regular, simple checks and timely repairs keep metal roofs performing well in Gig Harbor’s wet, windy conditions.

How does curb appeal affect my home's resale value in Gig Harbor?

In Gig Harbor, WA, metal roofing can increase home value because buyers favor durable, low‑maintenance roofs that reduce future expenses. Premium roofing materials also boost curb appeal, making homes stand out in competitive local markets. A long lifespan and strong weather resistance build buyer confidence during inspections and appraisals. That said, architectural style matters—roof profiles should complement the character of a neighborhood to maximize resale appeal. Interlock Metal Roofing systems offer multiple architectural profiles—including slate, cedar shingle, Mediterranean tile, shake, and standing seam—available in heavy‑gauge aluminum and solid copper, providing both aesthetic variety and long‑term performance that many buyers in the Gig Harbor area find attractive.

Can I install solar panels on my Interlock Metal Roofing System in Gig Harbor?

Yes — Interlock Metal Roofing Systems in Gig Harbor can accept solar panels using custom solar brackets installed by Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. Gig Harbor’s rainy, coastal climate with occasional snow increases roof moisture and runoff, so choose a durable roof material that won’t require replacement soon. Wet, shaded conditions also encourage moss and algae, which affects mounting access and flashing over time. Because solar adds load and you’ll want long service life, consider future solar plans when comparing materials—long-lasting metal roofs are often preferred. Interlock systems are solar compatible and engineered to support secure mounting solutions.
