Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Gig Harbor, Washington
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
We are very happy with our ine roof it looks great and the ervice was great The cleanup could have improved. We're very happy.
I would like install crew to return to my home to fix the agreed upon damage ( outdoor structure roof)
1. A more professional introductory meeting with the start up install that includes either a salesman or representative. This would include a complete overview of the install, ie.. installer introductions, expectations, timeline, general support to the homeowner. 2. FLASHING END CAP NEEDS TO BE DEVELOPED. I'm willing to discuss further with photos if needed. Would appreciate contact from an influential representative.
If I win the lottery, I may come back and take another look at the company.
I'm glad they came out, I just didn't think it would be that much more expensive.
I did not like the sales technique. I didn't like how he showed us the pros and cons. I didn't want the huge sales pitch. The visit was long and tedious. Don't let anyone else fall through the cracks either.
I recently had an Interlock roof system installed on my home the last week of April 2007. I am extremely pleased with my new roof. It looks awesome. The installers had quite a challenge working around the weather that week. They were only off by about 3 hours from the time they said they would finish. That in itself is remarkable considering the heavy rains they had to contend with. They were hard workers and very polite. They cleaned up their industrial mess as well as some of my own winter mess. My experience with Interlock Industries from the initial phone call, to the sales representative as well as the installers was like working with old friends. I would recommend Interlock Industries and their products to anyone without hesitation. I do not make referrals often, because I feel my word of recommendation is a sacred trust. I rate my experience A+ with Interlock. I know I am going to enjoy my new roof for a long time.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Gig Harbor
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Gig Harbor, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Gig Harbor.
Why doesn't aluminum metal roofing rust like steel does?
Aluminum can't rust because it contains no iron — rust requires iron to form. Instead, aluminum develops a thin oxide layer that protects the metal underneath, and that layer actually heals itself when scratched. In Gig Harbor's wet climate with about 1280 mm of rain annually, this matters enormously. We coat both sides of every panel with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish for extra salt-air protection, warranted 30 years against chalking and fading. Steel roofs corrode in these conditions; aluminum simply doesn't.
How does a metal roof handle snow and ice in Gig Harbor winters?
Gig Harbor averages about 33 cm of snow and roughly 21 freeze-thaw cycles yearly, creating the exact conditions where metal roofs outperform asphalt. The four-way interlocking panels shed water and snow efficiently without the ice-dam buildup that traps moisture under traditional shingles. Metal conducts heat from the sun — the region gets about 2931 sunshine hours per year — which naturally aids drainage. You can add snow guards if you prefer to control slide-off. The warranty covers the system to 120 mph winds, easily handling Gig Harbor's typical gusts around 101 km/h.
Do I need to reinforce my house's structure for a metal roof?
The Cedar Shingle profile weighs only about 0.41 lb/sq ft, and the Mediterranean Tile weighs roughly 0.59 lb/sq ft — about 96% lighter than real tile or concrete. Most homes need zero structural reinforcement, and Interlock installs directly over your existing roof, avoiding a costly tear-off and disposal. Concrete tile requires expensive framing upgrades; aluminum doesn't. You save thousands in labor and structural work while gaining a roof that won't sag or stress your home's frame, especially important in wet climates where existing decks may already carry moisture load.
Will a metal roof hold up in Gig Harbor's winter storms and wind gusts?
The four-way interlocking aluminum panels lock in all directions and are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph — well above Gig Harbor's recorded gusts around 101 km/h. The panels grip each other tightly, so no single gust lifts a corner or edge. That design also sheds the 1280 mm of annual rain efficiently without creating pockets where water sits. Combine that with the UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating and you have a roof engineered for Pacific Northwest weather that won't fail in the storms this region actually sees.
Does Interlock Metal Roofing have hail protection and what's the rating?
Interlock carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating — the highest available — and the Guardian Warranty specifically covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Class 4 means the roof resists impacts that would dent or puncture asphalt or wood shingles. While Gig Harbor doesn't face hail as frequently as inland regions, severe weather is unpredictable. The non-prorated lifetime limited warranty for the original owner and 50-year transferable coverage for the next owner means you're protected against impact damage without ongoing deductible claims on homeowner's insurance.
Is a metal roof more expensive than asphalt shingles over time?
Metal costs more upfront but becomes cheaper over the roof's life. An asphalt roof lasts 15-20 years in Gig Harbor's wet climate with 1280 mm of rain annually and 21 yearly freeze-thaw cycles that accelerate deterioration. You'll replace it two or three times. Interlock carries a lifetime limited, non-prorated warranty for the original owner — it's the last roof you buy. The Guardian Warranty also transfers 50 years to the next owner, protecting your home and its resale value for decades. Factor in no tear-off waste and you're ahead financially and environmentally.
What's actually covered under the Interlock warranty and for how long?
The Guardian Warranty is lifetime limited for the original owner — non-prorated, meaning no coverage reduction over time — and covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It transfers once to the next owner for 50 years from completion, protecting whoever buys your home. That transferability increases resale appeal in a market where buyers care about long-term durability. Manufactured since 1998 in Delta, BC, and installed from coastal salt-air homes to an Antarctic research station, these panels have a proven track record in extreme conditions far harsher than Gig Harbor's climate.
Is a metal roof fire-rated and does that matter in Washington?
Interlock aluminum roofing is non-combustible and rated Class A fire classification — the highest available — because aluminum itself does not burn. That meets ICC-ES evaluation ESR-1790 (reissued 2025 for IBC/IRC compliance) and CALGreen sustainability codes. While Gig Harbor's 2931 annual sunshine hours and wet climate reduce wildfire risk compared to drier regions, Class A rating lowers your homeowner's insurance premiums in many cases and strengthens your home's overall safety profile. It also adds appeal if you ever sell — buyers and lenders prefer non-combustible roofing materials.
Can a metal roof actually save money on heating and cooling?
energy-efficient colors with thermal emissivity of 0.84 reflect heat rather than absorb it, lowering summer cooling loads. In Gig Harbor's climate with about 2931 sunshine hours per year and cool mean temperatures around 11.3°C, the reflectance works year-round — the Aged Copper Penny profile achieves initial solar reflectance up to 0.55. While heating dominates winter costs here, reflective coatings prevent solar gain from working against you on clear days, stabilizing indoor temperature swings across the roughly 21 annual freeze-thaw cycles. Cool Roof Rating Council rating confirms the efficiency. Over 30+ years, the energy offset adds up.
How much maintenance does a metal roof really need compared to asphalt or wood?
Interlock requires almost no maintenance — no cleaning, no patching, no seasonal inspection worries. Asphalt shingles need debris removal, moss treatment in wet climates, and seasonal inspection, especially in Gig Harbor where 1280 mm of rain and about 33 cm of snow annually create moss and algae growth. Wood shakes split and rot in freeze-thaw cycles. The Alunar coating is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance, meaning the system is designed to shed water and resist the damp Pacific Northwest without active care. Beyond gutters, you won't touch the roof itself — that's the real savings over the 50+ year lifespan.
