The sale experience was good, but the rest was far below expectations, especially for the price paid. We did not buy Interlock just for an attractive roof, we bought it because they are supposed to be experts, have a high level of customer services, and we thought would do things right without headaches. This is far from the case. Hire an company who's actual employees and managers will be on site, not Interlock. Turns out we were actually blindly hiring a crew, who sub-contracts for Interlock, and has a questionable level of experience. Interlock doesn't even show up at your job site at any time during the job, even if you have problems and repeatedly ask them to. Once they have your money at the end of the job, they don't care if you still have issues or even bother to respond to you when you have additional issue. They need an interlock staff member who is an installation expert to be on the job site ideally for the whole job, but at the least, at the start at the middle and at the end who can insure everything is done to high standards and that all of the customers issues are addressed promptly. Paying by the job is also super problematic, this only encourages the crews to work as fast as they possibly can, covering up or ignoring things that might take a bit longer. They have no incentive to fix or give the customer time to fix an issue. The one installation manager you have for a huge region is not even close to adequate, it's no surprise he could not give us an adequate level of communication or attention. Disappointing.

Sales Punctuality

★★★★ Agree

Sales Knowledge

★★★☆☆ Neutral
“They were knowledgeable enough about roofing. However the head/regional sale guy was hesitant to admit that the install crews were technically sub-contractors until I pressed the subject. When pressed further he was adamant that the installation crews only work for them. This was either a lie or they aren't aware that they do other jobs as well, at least our crew does. Had we known that the installers work for themselves and have no real accountability to Interlock or the customer and that Interlock would essentially be 99% hands off once the project started, we never would have hired interlock.”

Employees Professionalism

★★☆☆☆ Disagree
“They were professional and courteous when we heard from them. But failure to adequately respond or respond at all to customer issues is not professional and that is what we got about 50% of the time. We still have unresolved issues.”

Communication

☆☆☆☆ Strongly disagree
“Start time was changed significantly with no notice, they just didn't show up and we had to call to find out it was delayed, which they had know for weeks, just didn't tell us. We had taken time off work to be there. Arrival times and dates and days they were working or not were not communicated with any accuracy or advanced notice. Time to complete the job once they started was also wrong. When we had issues with the installation the interlock staff (not the contractors) did not respond in a timely manner, some of the issues to this day have gone unanswered. We asked for an interlock staff member to meet with us to discuss issues with our roof in-person, it never happened, someone left a card on our doorstep one day, that's it. When we provided feedback to the sales staff and installation manager at the "completion" of the job we received no response at all. We still have unaddressed issues with our roof.”

Installation Crew

★★★☆☆ Neutral
“Interlock uses subcontractors that are paid by the job, this results in rushed work, juggling multiple jobs, showing up on their own schedule, etc. It also gives them no incentive to address or mention issues uncovered during the roof installation. For example, unbeknownst to us, we had a rat & mice problem in our roof. If I had not gone up on the roof myself after the tare off it would never have been mentioned to us, and just covered back up. I spent a day and a half cleaning up the rat feces, replacing insulation, and filling possible intrusion areas in the roof. The contractors had no interest in making the roof tight from intrusion, they did not seem to understand that it only took a 1/2" hole for a rat to get in and I had to continually point out holes and often fill them myself. There are still holes that we not filled in. Of course there was a significant language barrier which did not help the situation. This situation would be different if the crews were incentivized in some way to fix underlying issues and/or bring them to the attention of the home owner. But being paid by the job strongly discourages this.”

Quality Of Materials

★★★★ Agree
“The tiles, underlayment, and sheathing they used was all very high quality.”

Quality Of Workmanship

★★☆☆☆ Disagree
“We hired Interlock because they have the reputation (and the price tag) of a top of the line installer. This was not the case, while the crew in the end addressed most of the issues, we had to point out problems on a daily basis that would have been covered up and we would never had know about had we not checked the work constantly. The lead installer blamed this on an inexperienced crew, however I suspect it's completely normal. We had a new layer of plywood put on which allowed for making a perfect installation surface, square up any issues, etc. However this wasn't done. In the end, our eve is wonky, the crew blamed it on the eve not being straight, that's true, but they are the ones who cut the eve boards. Instead of snapping a line and cutting it straight they cut it by sight. Another serious problem is that no one from the interlock staff was ever on the work site. I would expect that an interlock employee would be out the first day to set expectations and answer any questions, sometime during the install to check on progress and do an inspection before it's all covered up, and at the end to make sure the customer is happy. None of this happened. In fact we weren't happy in the end, made it known, and got no response from the Interlock installation manager or the sales staff, all of which were copied on the email. Just a few of the issues during installation: Underlayment was attached with long nails piercing the underside of the sheathing (never resolved); intrusion gaps for rodents were left in many places (never resolved), air vents were covered over and/or installed incorrectly (resolved), valley sheeting was laid over piles of nails and screws (never resolved), eve is wonky (never resolved), and who knows what other issues we don't know about that were covered over before we saw them.”

Clean & Safe

★★★☆☆ Neutral

Professional Completion

★★☆☆☆ Disagree
“There are several issues that have gone unaddressed, that I clearly described to interlock in more than one email. They never had an employee meet with me or even check on things after the job was "complete" even though I asked for this several times. The install crew did a decent job of trying to make us happy once things started to go sideways, but the communication issues prevented things from being completely resolved. English was not their strong suit.”

Problem Resolution

★★☆☆☆ Disagree
“Problem resolution went like this. I would call or email the Interlock install manager, often several times before he would get back to me, he would say he would take care of it. Not sure if he called the crew or not, or if they understood or not because most of the time the crew would either not do anything about it or ask what the problems were, which was very difficult since their English was very limited. I would often compromise or give up just out of frustration.”

Schedule

☆☆☆☆ Strongly disagree
“No, not at all, see communication above. Again this is the issue with using a sub-contractor, by law Interlock cannot make them adhere to a certain schedule, if they did they would have to make them employees. So they work when it works for them and only tell you if you ask the night before, and that may not be accurate.”
