Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Calgary, Alberta
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |

What our customers are saying:
Luis was excellent. He should up with a great attitude and ready to take care of our problems. I would definitely recommend Luis for everyone.
After a relentless 12+ hour windstorm, our 18-year-old roof needed a repair. When I called to book it, that's when I learned the previous owner and my senior parents hadn't transferred the warranty when the house was bought 13 years ago. Despite that, the owners came out the very same day and honored it! The repair itself was simple — just two screws — but high up on the roof with a sloped ground below, making it tricky and time-consuming. First time in 18 years our roof has needed work, and their honesty, professionalism, and prompt service were incredible. Highly recommend this company!
As above. Communication of information re work being done.
I'm not sure I'd recommend them to a friend because I think they're not for everyone. They're very expensive and we were told when we first bought our roof over ten years ago, it would be weather-resistant and it wasn't. I'm still kind of sitting on the fence on that. They could've improved on cleaning up and also coordinating things with our solar panels, as well. There was a misunderstanding between them and the solar company and I don't know where the miscommunication happened.
I found the representative that I originally spoke with and who provided the estimate to be very professional and prompt with answering follow up questions. The installers were also responsive to questions while the roof was being replaced. Appreciated how neat they left the yard at the end of each day while the work was progressing. Overall the process was fairly seamless and I am very happy with the final results.

Absolutely Outstanding Experience with InterLock Roofing From our very first consultation with InterLock Roofing, we were impressed by their professionalism, integrity, and clear commitment to safety and quality. They assured us upfront that they held themselves to the highest standards—both in workmanship and in health and safety—and they delivered on every promise. When the team arrived on site, every worker was focused, diligent, and clearly well-trained in safety protocols. It was incredibly reassuring to see a company not only take pride in their work, but also prioritize the well-being of their crew in what is undeniably a dangerous trade. The final product was absolutely superb—flawless installation, meticulous attention to detail, and no shortcuts taken. The project was completed on time, with a thorough final review and sign-off process that left us fully confident in the longevity and performance of our new roof. Many of our neighbors complimented us on how our home is looking now:) We’re proud to have worked with a Canadian company that upholds such exceptional standards. InterLock Roofing stands out not just for the unmatched quality of their work, but also for their ethical approach and genuine care for both customers and employees. A super, super company—highly recommended!
I had to call the Calgary office twice to find out the date of installation of the roof. There was no communication at least as the customer once I signed the contract . This should be a seamless process from sales people to installers. You dont have a supervisor to come on site as other roofing companies in calgary do. There were a myriad of problems during the installation I complained but had no return calls from the installers . I believe the person in charge was Dave Thomson. He never called me back to review issues. The roof looks very nice. However for 52,000. I think someone could have returned my calls. Everything
So very impressed with the total package.. the product, sales person Tyler.. and the working crew.. this metal roof gave our house a very European flavour…. Excellent…!!!!!!!!
David Thomas was a total professional. Was extremely helpful and informative. Always available if you had any questions. The men working on the roof were all super nice and true pros. They made sure everything was cleaned up before they left.
After 25 years in our home we realized it was time to replace our roof. Asphalt shingles were always the way to go ..however, we decided to investigate other products. We have always been very interested in a tin roof but were worried it may be too shiny for our home. After thorough research we saw the Interlock product at a home show & became immediately interested in the different styles & colour choices. We set up an appointment in our home with Tyler to have Interlock view our roof line to make sure the slate style look would work. The product is strong, lightweight, tough durable & comes with a 50 year transferable warranty. We were impressed to say the least. Now that our roof is complete (Wow) thanks to the professional installation by Alexis the neighbourhood is abuzz with questions & compliments. It’s beautiful!!! & the Interlock slate style compliments our home. Thank you Tyler for all the information & support in helping us make a rewarding decision. We couldn’t be happier!

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Calgary
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Calgary, Alberta. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Calgary.
How does a metal roof handle Calgary's 97 cm of annual snow and freeze-thaw cycles?
Aluminum panels shed snow efficiently because the smooth, interlocking surface prevents accumulation better than asphalt. With about 122 freeze-thaw days per year in Calgary, your roof needs material that won't absorb moisture and crack—aluminum oxide self-heals when scratched, so repeated freezing cycles don't weaken it. The four-way interlocking design resists warping under snow load, and optional snow guards keep slides controlled. Unlike wood or concrete tile, Interlock won't split, curl, or delaminate through your typical winter.
Why doesn't aluminum rust like steel roofing, and does it matter in Calgary?
Aluminum contains no iron, so it chemically cannot rust. Instead, it develops a self-healing oxide layer that protects the metal underneath—even when scratched, that layer reforms automatically. Steel roofing requires paint and sealants to prevent corrosion, which degrade over time. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum with a Alunar 70% PVDF coating warranted 30 years against fading. In Calgary's climate, with wind gusts reaching 98 km/h that can scratch surfaces, this self-healing property means your roof stays protected without ongoing maintenance.
Does freeze-thaw damage hurt metal roofs in Calgary winters?
No. Freeze-thaw cycles harm materials that absorb water and expand when frozen—asphalt, wood, and clay tile all suffer from this. Aluminum is non-porous, so water doesn't penetrate and expand inside the material. With 122 freeze-thaw days annually in Calgary, this difference adds up: asphalt shingles curl and crack, cedar shakes split, concrete tile spalls. Interlock's aluminum won't crack, curl, or split through repeated freezing. The four-way interlocking panels also allow air circulation underneath, which prevents ice dams and moisture buildup that damage other roof types.
Is my house strong enough for a metal roof, or do I need expensive reinforcement?
You almost certainly don't. Interlock metal roofing is extraordinarily light—the Tile profile installs at just 0.59 lb/sq ft, about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Most Calgary homes can handle this without structural work. In fact, Interlock installs directly over most existing roofs, so you skip the tear-off entirely. Compare this to asphalt shingles at 2-3 lb/sq ft: if your house has held asphalt for 20 years, metal is actually lighter. The ICC-ES evaluation ESR-1790 confirms Interlock meets building code (IBC/IRC) with no reinforcement on standard residential framing.
Can a metal roof withstand Calgary's wind gusts and winter storms?
Yes. Calgary experiences typical daily winds around 18 km/h, with gusts up to 98 km/h—Interlock's warranty covers wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to spec. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels lock together so tightly that wind pressure pushes the panels tighter rather than lifting them. UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating (the highest available) confirms the design's strength. Unlike asphalt shingles, which loosen and curl at the edges, Interlock's mechanical interlock system means wind can't work its way under the seams and peel the roof off.
Does Interlock handle hail, and could it lower my insurance costs?
Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This durability often qualifies you for insurance discounts because hail damage claims drop dramatically. Calgary's ~333 mm of annual rainfall includes occasional severe hail, and asphalt shingles dent and puncture easily. Aluminum's hardness resists impact without cracking. Contact your insurer: many offer 5–15% discounts for Class 4 roofs because they know claims will be rare. Interlock's impact strength outlasts asphalt by decades.
How much can a reflective metal roof reduce cooling costs in Calgary summers?
Calgary gets about 3330 hours of sunshine per year—metal roofing with energy-efficient colors can significantly reduce cooling load. Interlock's reflective coatings achieve initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, meaning the roof bounces heat that asphalt absorbs and re-radiates into your home. On a sunny Calgary day, this translates to lower air-conditioning costs and less thermal stress on your attic. The Cool Roof Rating Council rates Interlock's performance. Over 30+ years, energy savings can offset the initial investment, especially if you're replacing an old dark roof.
What maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood?
Interlock is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance. Unlike asphalt, which needs sealant reapplication every 3–5 years and loses granules, or wood shakes, which need treatment for rot and insects, Interlock requires only occasional gutter cleaning and debris removal. The aluminum won't degrade, split, or curl. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading (measured to ASTM D4214/D2244 standards). In Calgary's climate with 97 cm snow annually, the smooth surface sheds meltwater cleanly, so ice dams—which demand constant attention on asphalt—never form.
Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost over a standard asphalt replacement?
Over the roof's lifetime, yes. Asphalt lasts 15–25 years and requires tear-off, disposal, and reinstallation—an expensive, wasteful cycle. Interlock's Guardian Warranty is lifetime limited and non-prorated for the original owner, transferable for 50 years to the next owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, and curling. In Calgary, this means one installation outlasts 2–3 asphalt roofs. Your current promotion offers interest-free payments for 3 months and saves at least $2499 on installation. Factoring in energy savings, zero maintenance, and no tear-off costs, metal typically costs less per year over 40+ years.
Are metal roofs better for the environment than asphalt shingles?
Yes. Interlock aluminum is about 95% recyclable at end of life—it never becomes landfill waste. Asphalt shingles are the largest single waste stream in North American landfills because they're difficult to recycle and tear-off happens every 20 years. Over 50 years, your property would discard 2–3 asphalt roofs; Interlock stays in place and recycles as valuable aluminum. The panels manufactured in Delta, BC have been installed from coastal salt-air homes to an Antarctic research station, proving durability that eliminates the cycle of waste. Choose metal and your roof becomes a raw material, not pollution.
