Review: May 7, 2020 Completion: April 13, 2020

Putting some more tarps around the house to catch the debris might have been helpful, however they cleaned up everything quite well. We look forward to enjoying our beautiful roof for many years to come. We appreciate the knowledgeable, professional, and thorough approach that everyone from Interlock roofing took with our job.

Not happy with Interloc. Not because of Mike, but because of the lack of follow through.Brian O'Donnell

Review: August 10, 2018 Completion: July 5, 2018

Refer to the other comments made. I think Interlock Roofing could have improved their communication and scheduling. I had to call them continuously to find out what was going on when no one would show up or if there were any other discrepancies. I was satisfied with the final look. I think that it is fine but I'm not unhappy with the way the install took place. I would think they would have one crew to handle the job and coordinate between them.

shorter time between delivery of materials and completion of project very pleased with the roof and the way it plays with our Leafguard gutters. i suggested to Todd that interlock should look at picking up the local BC franchise as the Leafguard product is no longer available here. seams like a good fit to me, eh.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Halfmoon Bay

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Halfmoon Bay, British Columbia. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Halfmoon Bay.

Does a metal roof handle Halfmoon Bay's heavy snow and freeze-thaw cycles?

Metal roofs excel in freeze-thaw conditions because aluminum expands and contracts uniformly—unlike asphalt shingles, which crack and curl after repeated cycling. Halfmoon Bay averages about 120 cm of snow annually and roughly 28 freeze-thaw days per year, both conditions that metal roofs were engineered to withstand. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels shed snow efficiently while the smooth, hard surface resists ice dam formation. Snow guards can be added if desired. Your roof will remain structurally sound through decades of your region's winter weather.

Can an aluminum roof handle Halfmoon Bay's 1680 mm of annual rainfall?

Yes—aluminum roofs are specifically designed for high-rainfall coastal climates. The four-way interlocking panel system creates overlapped seams that water cannot penetrate; water simply sheds downward with gravity. The Sunshine Coast receives about 1680 mm of rain per year, and the solid deck beneath the panels, combined with a quality underlayment, provides a second defense against any water intrusion. Interlock Metal Roofing has been installing these systems in coastal BC since 1983—your heavy rainfall is handled by proven design, not luck.

Why choose aluminum over steel roofing in a wet, coastal climate?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes and corrodes in steel. Instead, aluminum develops a thin, invisible oxide layer that actually protects the underlying metal. Even if scratched, this oxide layer self-heals automatically. Combined with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating applied to both sides of every panel and backed by a 30-year fade and chalk warranty, your roof resists the salt spray and moisture of the Sunshine Coast far more durably than steel, wood, or asphalt. This is why Interlock panels have been installed from coastal salt-air homes to Antarctica.

Will a metal roof stay secure during Halfmoon Bay's windstorms?

Absolutely. The four-way interlocking aluminum panel system is warranted to resist winds up to 120 mph (193 km/h)—far exceeding Halfmoon Bay's typical gusts, which average around 13 km/h and peak at about 119 km/h. Each panel locks on all four sides to its neighbors, distributing wind load across the entire roof rather than stressing individual fasteners. This engineering, combined with ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 compliance, means your roof will perform reliably through your region's windiest days without lifting, buckling, or losing panels.

Is a metal roof light enough to install over my existing shingles?

Yes. The Interlock Slate profile weighs only about 0.41 pounds per square foot—so light that no structural reinforcement is needed. The Mediterranean Tile profile, which visually replicates heavy ceramic or concrete tile, weighs roughly 0.59 lb/sq ft and is about 96% lighter than real tile. This means installation over most existing roofs is possible without costly frame or beam upgrades. Your installer will assess your specific home, but the featherweight aluminum construction solves the structural limitation that prevents many homeowners from upgrading to more durable materials.

How much upkeep does an aluminum metal roof need?

Metal roofs require significantly less maintenance than asphalt, wood, or tile. There's no annual moss or debris removal, no resealing, no replacement of individual shingles or tiles. Occasional gutter cleaning and a gentle rinse to remove salt spray residue—both standard home care—are your main tasks. The Alunar 70% PVDF finish resists chalk and fading for 30 years, so the coating stays protective. Asphalt shingles, by contrast, require inspection every few years and typically need replacement within 20 years. Your aluminum roof simply ages gracefully with minimal intervention.

Can a metal roof help reduce heating or cooling costs?

energy-efficient Interlock colors deliver thermal emissivity of 0.84 and solar reflectance up to 0.55 (in the Aged Copper Penny finish), meaning they reflect rather than absorb solar heat. The Cool Roof Rating Council rating confirms this advantage: on sunny days between your 2922 annual sunshine hours, the reflective coating keeps more heat out of your home compared to asphalt shingles, which absorb that energy. While Halfmoon Bay's cool 10.5°C mean temperature limits summer cooling demand, reflective coatings reduce peak temperatures and lower seasonal energy costs year-round—a benefit that compounds over decades.

Does a metal roof hold up in hailstorms?

Interlock Metal Roofing achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest classification available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Class 4 impact testing involves steel balls dropped from 20 feet, so your roof is proven against the worst hail events. Many insurance companies recognize this durability and offer premium discounts for Class 4 metal roofs. Halfmoon Bay's moderate climate means severe hail is uncommon, but when it does occur, your aluminum roof's impact resistance provides genuine peace of mind—and potential insurance savings.

What's the warranty on an Interlock metal roof, and is it transferable?

The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It's transferable once: the next owner receives 50 years of coverage from completion. This means if you sell your home, the new owner inherits decades of protection without paying extra. Combined with the 30-year Alunar coating warranty, you're protected against material failures for the lifespan you'll own the roof, and your buyer gets years of additional security. Few roofing products offer this kind of confidence.

Is an aluminum metal roof better for the environment?

Yes. Aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable, so your roof—if ever removed—can be melted down and reused indefinitely without quality loss. By contrast, asphalt shingles are typically torn off and sent to landfill, where they persist for decades. Over a 50-year lifespan, a metal roof breaks this cycle: you install once, keep it for decades, then recycle the material rather than contributing to landfill waste. For homeowners on the Sunshine Coast who value sustainability, choosing a roof that lasts 50+ years and then returns to the resource stream is a straightforward way to reduce environmental impact across generations.
