    Review: December 8, 2019 Completion: September 13, 2019

I only answered the questions that I personally dealt with. I was away during 90% of the work. We previously ignored your survey due to the fact that although the roof itself is wonderful the clean up was not satisfactory and we are not complainers. My daughters truck and my car have both had screws imbedded in our tires. (On the cobblestone driveway) I have picked up many screws with the little round things on them that make them stick up when laying on the ground. There was also a bit of… Read more →

    Review: April 11, 2019 Completion: March 15, 2019

I have already raved to my friends about Interlock Roofing. And so many people have come and commented on how great the job was done, and in such a timely manner. I don't have any comments about this, since start to finish it was a top notch operation.

    Review: December 12, 2017 Completion: November 23, 2017

No Thee are so many, the staff is an issue, the installers. The other problem with our roof due to style, was it required long sheets and they are harder to install so it was more limit on installers to draw from. We had up to six crews within the six months it took to finish. The worst experience I have ever had doing a renovation, and I have done many, on many homes. I was going to report to BBB, and I still will I just have not had the time. I reached out to owner and never heard from them.… Read more →

None. Really, it was fine. I thought it was a tad long between order and completion, and delivery of materials and completion, but the crew was tidally professional and courteous and effective.

Metal roofing near Squamish

Squamish metal roofing FAQ

How does a metal roof handle Squamish's heavy snow and freeze-thaw cycles?

Metal roofs shed snow and ice far better than asphalt because the smooth, hard surface prevents bonding. Squamish receives about 120 cm of snow annually and experiences roughly 37 freeze-thaw cycles per year—conditions that crack and curl asphalt shingles. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels and lightweight design (the Shake profile weighs just 0.58 lb/sq ft) eliminate ice dam risk and the structural stress that heavy slate or tile creates. Snow guards are available if you need controlled shedding. The aluminum's non-corrosive finish resists the salt-laden moisture that accelerates damage in coastal snowmelt.

Does metal roofing leak in Squamish's 2,471 mm of annual rain?

No. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are engineered to shed water continuously; the system has no exposed fasteners and overlapping seams that direct rainfall downward. Squamish's 2,471 mm of rain per year—about 68% more than the Canadian average—demands a roof that handles sustained moisture without pooling or saturation. The aluminum alloy (3105-H24 / 3003-H24, ASTM B209) has no iron, so it cannot rust even when constantly wet. Installation over solid deck with ICC-ES–compliant underlayment (ESR-1790) ensures every water event drains safely to your gutters.

Why is aluminum roofing better than steel in a coastal climate like Squamish?

Steel rusts when iron oxidizes; aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. Instead, aluminum develops an invisible, self-healing oxide layer that protects the metal from salt air and humidity. Squamish sits in the Sea-to-Sky corridor where coastal salt spray accelerates corrosion in ferrous metals. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy, and applies Alunar® 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating to both sides of every panel—providing an extra barrier against salt damage. This dual protection is why Interlock has installed panels from oceanside homes to Antarctica's research stations without perforation from corrosion.

Can a metal roof withstand Squamish's wind gusts?

Yes. Interlock panels are warranted to resist winds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. Squamish's typical gusts reach 95 km/h, and the Sea-to-Sky region can see isolated higher winds, but your roof will be engineered for conditions well beyond local records. The four-way interlocking system locks each panel to its neighbors on all sides, distributing wind load across the entire roof plane rather than concentrating stress on individual fasteners. This mechanical interlock is why the system maintains integrity in extreme weather while remaining lightweight enough to need no structural reinforcement.

Will I need to reinforce my roof structure for metal roofing?

No structural reinforcement is required. The Interlock Tile profile weighs about 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—and can be installed directly over most existing roof decks. Squamish experiences about 120 cm of snow annually, but because metal roofing is so light, the weight per square foot remains trivial compared to traditional tile or slate. The real advantage is that you avoid the cost and disruption of tearing out your existing roof; Interlock installs over it, cutting labor and waste. Your home's existing framing already supports its current roof, and this one weighs a fraction of what many homes carry.

What warranty does Interlock Metal Roofing offer in Squamish?

The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It's transferable once: the next owner receives 50 years of coverage from completion. Most asphalt roofs need replacement every 15–20 years; Interlock roofs installed in 1998 are still performing in the field. The 30-year warranty on the Alunar® coating (against chalking and fading, ASTM D4214/D2244 measured) is separate, so your finish stays vibrant decades after installation. This is the only roof you should ever need to buy.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost in Squamish?

Yes—the total cost of ownership over 50 years is lower with metal. An asphalt roof costs less initially but requires replacement every 15–20 years, plus recurring maintenance, repairs, and disposal fees that accumulate to tens of thousands of dollars. A metal roof installed once eliminates those cycles. Interlock's current regional promotion offers interest-free payments for 3 months and saves at least $2,499 on installation, making the initial investment more accessible. Factor in energy savings (energy-efficient colors with 0.84 thermal emissivity reflect heat asphalt absorbs), no maintenance, and transferable warranty coverage, and metal is the last roof investment you'll make—a genuine financial advantage over decades.

How much maintenance does a metal roof need?

Metal roofing requires far less maintenance than asphalt, wood, or tile. Asphalt shingles deteriorate faster in Squamish's 37 annual freeze-thaw cycles and 2,471 mm of rain, curling and cracking until replacement. Wood roofing demands regular treatment and splits from moisture cycling. Tile is brittle and requires caulking. Interlock aluminum is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance—the ICC-ES evaluation (ESR-1790) confirms it meets sustainability standards partly through durability and minimal upkeep. Seasonal gutter cleaning and the occasional roof inspection are all you need. The non-corrosive aluminum and Alunar® 70% PVDF coating resist salt air, UV, and weathering without re-coating or sealing, so your roof stays maintenance-free for life.

How long does it take to install an Interlock metal roof in Squamish?

Installation timelines depend on roof complexity and weather, but Interlock Metal Roofing (BC) Ltd. has served the Sea-to-Sky region since 1983 and understands local seasonal constraints. A key advantage is that installation occurs over your existing roof—no tear-off, which saves time and eliminates the cost and landfill impact of stripping asphalt. The four-way interlocking panel system means each piece locks mechanically to its neighbors, speeding installation compared to fastener-by-fastener roofing. Weather windows matter in Squamish's 2,471 mm annual rainfall and 152 cm of snow, so your installer will coordinate timing around seasonal patterns. Contact your local Interlock team for a project-specific timeline and to discuss your home's unique conditions.

Is metal roofing more sustainable than asphalt?

Yes. Aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable at end of life, and Interlock roofs break the asphalt tear-off-to-landfill cycle entirely. Every time an asphalt roof fails—typically every 15–20 years—tons of shingles go to landfill, generating waste and emissions. In Squamish's wet, freeze-thaw climate with 2,471 mm rain and 37 annual cycles, asphalt fails faster, increasing replacement frequency and landfill contribution. A metal roof installed once eliminates repeated demolition and disposal. Interlock uses roofing-grade aluminum alloy manufactured to ASTM B209 standards and applies durable coatings that extend service life indefinitely. When your metal roof does eventually reach end of life—likely decades from now—the aluminum can be recovered and recycled into new products, closing the loop rather than filling landfills.
