Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Kamloops, British Columbia
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
From the estimator to the installers, everyone at Interlock has been fantastic to work with, great communication, Vlad and his install team were outstanding, efficient, and take great pride in their workmanship. Highly recommend! Great product, great team, outstanding service.
Other than the pricing, I do not see any other areas that need improvement. I would highly recommend Interlock Roofing.
There were no areas they needed to improve on. I couldn't be happier with my roof.
The installer who did the job was terrible and when i asked the supervisor to come to site he disregarded my assessment and let the teeruable workmanship continue, this caused many problems and lots of rework and leakes Because the shingles debt so easy you should engineer a system that installs from the peak downward so the installer does not dent every shingle by walking on them
I would like to move forward on getting the roof done
lack of communication from office staff, did not use preferred mode of communication.
I got an email correspondence that was a chain of a conversation. There was someone in the office that was quite rude and made us seem like a problem customer with the finances. The timeline and project management didn't go quite as expected. The materials weren't there right away, so there was some disorganization. A really big strength was in resolving problems and sticking with it.
It is a great product, just beyond our means and not suitable for our particular project at this time.
Communication and timing of installation. The roof looks great! I look forward to getting the final snow guards in the spring.
I think they could do better with capping off the ends of the levels. I think they should be wrapping the interlocking completely around so there are no open spaces left at the ends of the roof. I think its a fantastic roof.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Kamloops
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Kamloops, British Columbia. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Kamloops.
Will a metal roof handle Kamloops' freeze-thaw cycles without cracking or degrading?
Yes. Aluminum expands and contracts with temperature swings, but it never cracks or splits—the material simply flexes and returns to shape. Kamloops experiences roughly 121 freeze-thaw days per year, and Interlock's roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) is engineered for exactly this cycle. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating, warranted 30 years against degradation, protects through repeated freeze-thaw stress that can shatter asphalt or wood shingles. Your roof remains intact where traditional materials fail.
Can aluminum metal roofing rust in a climate like Kamloops?
Aluminum cannot rust—it contains no iron, the element that oxidizes. Instead, aluminum forms a self-healing oxide layer on its surface that actually protects the material underneath. Even when scratched, this oxide naturally reforms within weeks. In Kamloops, where rainfall averages 315 mm annually and winter moisture is common, this is a structural advantage over steel roofing, which rusts through. Interlock panels are finished with Alunar 70% PVDF coating on both sides, adding another three decades of warranty protection. Your metal roof will never suffer rust perforation.
How does metal roofing perform under Kamloops' snow loads and ice buildup?
Metal roofing sheds snow and ice far more efficiently than asphalt, reducing ice dam risk. Kamloops receives about 85 cm of snow annually, and the smooth, sloped aluminum surface allows snow to slide naturally rather than bridge and trap meltwater. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels lock together so tightly that wind-driven snow cannot penetrate seams. While optional snow guards can be added for aesthetic or property-line concerns, the metal itself won't hold ice the way asphalt does. You get faster melt, better drainage, and fewer freeze-thaw cycles within the roof assembly itself.
Is an aluminum metal roof secure in Kamloops' gusty weather?
Yes. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. Kamloops sees typical gusts around 97 km/h, well within that margin. The interlocking geometry distributes wind load across the entire roof system—no individual panel lifts or peels. Each panel locks into its neighbors on all four sides, creating a continuous, rigid envelope. Your roof will not fail in Kamloops' windiest weather, and you have a transferable lifetime limited warranty backing that promise.
Does metal roofing protect against hail damage, and can it lower insurance costs?
Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4, the highest impact rating available—the same rating hail-prone insurers recognize and often reward with discounts. The warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. While Kamloops averages only moderate hail, the durability itself is a selling point: you have documented, third-party-tested impact resistance and non-combustible aluminum construction. Contact your insurer directly about premium reductions; many carriers lower rates for Class 4 metal roofs because the claims history is substantially lower than asphalt. That cost reduction can offset material investment over time.
Can I install a metal roof over my existing roof without structural reinforcement?
Yes, and that's one of metal roofing's biggest advantages. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile, for example, installs at just 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Even the heavier Shake profile weighs only 0.58 lb/sq ft. Most existing residential framing can support this weight without reinforcement, saving thousands in structural work. You can overlay directly over an existing roof, eliminating tear-off costs and landfill hauling. This matters in Kamloops, where labor and disposal add up. Have your framing inspected by a local installer—Interlock Metal Roofing (BC) Ltd. has served this region since 1983 and will advise whether your home qualifies.
What profile styles does Interlock offer to match my home's look?
Interlock manufactures five distinct profiles: Slate (sleek, modern appearance), Cedar Shingle (classic shingle texture), Shake (deep wood-grain dimension), Mediterranean Tile (arched clay-tile aesthetic), and Standing Seam (linear, architectural). Each uses the same four-way interlocking aluminum construction and comes in multiple colors. Choose based on your home's architecture and the curb appeal you want for Kamloops' landscape. All profiles deliver the same non-rusting aluminum core, 30-year coating warranty, and 120 mph wind resistance. Whether your home is Craftsman, contemporary, or heritage, there's an Interlock profile that fits. See the local installer for samples and color options.
What warranty does Interlock metal roofing come with, and how long will it actually last?
The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It transfers once to the next owner, giving them 50 years of protection from completion. With proper installation and maintenance, Interlock roofs routinely exceed 50 years; the company has been manufacturing since 1998 and has installations from coastal salt-air homes to an Antarctic research station. In Kamloops, where weather is moderate compared to coastal or extreme climates, durability is well-documented. This is genuinely the last roof most homeowners will buy.
How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood?
Metal roofing requires substantially less maintenance than asphalt or wood. Asphalt shingles need repairs every 5–10 years and replacement around 15–25 years. Wood shakes demand regular inspection for mold, insects, and rot, especially with Kamloops' 121 annual freeze-thaw days and 85 cm of snow. Interlock aluminum doesn't absorb water, doesn't rot, doesn't crack, and doesn't need protective stains or sealers. Occasional debris clearing and gutter maintenance are all that's needed. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading, so color retention is guaranteed. You trade frequent repairs for decades of predictable, minimal upkeep.
Can a metal roof actually reduce cooling costs in a place like Kamloops?
Yes. Interlock's energy-efficient colors achieve thermal emissivity of 0.84 and solar reflectance up to 0.55, meaning they reflect heat that traditional asphalt absorbs and re-radiates into your home. In Kamloops, where you enjoy about 3295 annual sunshine hours, that reflection adds up over summer months. Metal roofs don't eliminate air-conditioning needs (Kamloops is cool overall), but they measurably reduce peak cooling demand and lower thermal stress on your roof deck. The Cool Roof Rating Council certifies this performance. Paired with 85 cm of annual snowfall, the reflectance also means faster spring melt and less ice dam risk. You get both summer cooling benefit and winter moisture management from the same roof.
