Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Sherbrooke, Nova Scotia
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
Every comment below tells you how you disappointed me. I think one of my comments indicates room for improvement.
None Not now
Took ++time to complete our roof. Workers would leave garbage and tools over the yard and arrive later in the morning and leave early afternoon (did not appear to have a good work ethic and people from the community and our neighbours commented on this as well). More oversight on the installation process and ensuring the installers are professional and actually working. A quicker response to a leaking roof would also be great!
sales guy doesn't do you any favours. Don't tell me it costs me more to use you for the quote on addition instead of going directly through head office, makes one question if I paid more than I needed to for the main house! we get a lot of compliments on our roof and have recommended your services and this product specifically to several people.
Great product, makes the house look so much better than the old roof! Just to be a little more careful with materials around window screens.
Site clear up at the end of each day could have been better. None
Builders (staff) were excellent to work with. Not sure. We love the looks of our new roof.
Easy to work with. No drama!
I own a house, but I'm not a home owner. Property is currently for sale and then I'm headed back to apartment life. In this situation I believe the topic is unlikely to come up.
We recently had extra snow guards added to our roof. The workers that showed up, were professional and dedicated, it was Saturday evening, they were all smiles and very polite.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Sherbrooke
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Sherbrooke, Nova Scotia. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Sherbrooke.
Will a metal roof handle Sherbrooke's freeze-thaw cycles?
Yes — aluminum's oxide layer actually strengthens through freeze-thaw stress rather than degrading like asphalt or wood. With about 91 freeze-thaw days per year on the Eastern Shore, this matters. Unlike asphalt shingles that crack and curl as water enters, freezes, and expands within the material, solid aluminum panels have nowhere for water to penetrate. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating is warranted 30 years against cracking and curling, and the four-way interlocking system sheds water before it reaches the deck. Your roof stays intact through every winter cycle.
How does Interlock handle snow load and ice dams in heavy winters?
Sherbrooke averages about 156 cm of snow annually, but Interlock's extraordinary light weight—the Slate profile installs at just 0.41 lb/sq ft—means your roof carries the snow load without stress to framing. More importantly, the smooth panel surface and tight interlocking seams shed snow and prevent the standing water that triggers ice dams. Snow guards are optional if you want to manage roof-edge runoff, but the design itself resists the ice dam formation that causes leaks in colder climates. The ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation confirms the system's performance under typical snow loads.
Can metal roofing withstand Sherbrooke's winter and coastal gusts?
Absolutely. Sherbrooke experiences typical daily-max winds of 21 km/h with gusts recorded to 138 km/h—severe enough to lift weak roofing. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. Each panel locks mechanically to its neighbors at four points, so there's no reliance on fasteners alone. The wind warranty covers the actual threat in your region, and Maritime Metal Roofing Ltd. installs to those exacting standards, so your roof stays put even in the worst coastal weather.
Why is aluminum roofing better than steel in a maritime climate?
Steel rusts because iron oxidizes when exposed to moisture and oxygen—a process that accelerates near salt air. Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. Instead, aluminum forms a thin oxide layer that, uniquely, self-heals when scratched. The panels are manufactured from roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209), and the Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish is applied to both sides—extra protection critical in Sherbrooke's coastal weather and 1476 mm annual rainfall. Steel would require constant maintenance; aluminum simply endures.
Does a metal roof really resist hail, and will my insurer notice?
Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest classification available—and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. While Sherbrooke's climate data doesn't record frequent hail, the durability it represents matters: Class 4 means your roof shrugs off impacts that would fracture asphalt shingles, wood shakes, or tile. Some insurers recognize this non-combustible, impact-resistant construction and offer discounts; you should contact your provider with the UL rating and ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation report. The investment in impact resistance pays dividends beyond hail—it's resilience against wind-driven debris and falling branches.
Is metal roofing worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?
This is a lifetime economics question. Asphalt shingles last 15–25 years and require tear-off disposal; Interlock comes with a non-prorated lifetime limited material warranty for the original owner and a one-time 50-year transferable warranty for the next owner. You will never replace it—or your children will inherit a roof already halfway through its second life. Over 60 years, you avoid multiple tear-offs, re-roofing labor, and the disruption of repeated work. Current regional promotion offers interest-free payments for 3 months and saves at least $2499 on installation. The math favors metal when you plan to stay in your home or care about long-term property value.
How much maintenance does a metal roof actually need?
Virtually none compared to asphalt, wood, or ceramic tile. Asphalt shingles require inspection after storms, moss removal in damp climates, and gutter cleaning every season; wood shakes need treatment for rot and insect damage; tile requires repointing and periodic replacement. Interlock is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating resists algae growth and requires only occasional rinse with mild soap and water if desired—no chemical treatments. Snow sheds naturally; leaves blow off the smooth panels. Maritime Metal Roofing Ltd. can recommend a simple post-storm inspection schedule, but the aluminum itself doesn't degrade, corrode, or demand upkeep during 1476 mm of annual rain and 156 cm of snow.
Is metal roofing actually better for the environment than asphalt?
Yes, substantially. Interlock aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable at end of life, whereas asphalt shingles end in landfills—millions of tons annually across North America. Manufacturing aluminum requires energy, but that cost is repaid through the roof's 60+ year lifespan: you never excavate, haul, and dispose of roofing waste. A typical asphalt roof generates a 10-ton waste stream every 20–25 years; Interlock generates zero. When your roof finally reaches true end-of-life centuries from now, the panels enter the recycling stream as pure aluminum. For a homeowner in Sherbrooke concerned about environmental stewardship, this single choice eliminates 2–3 major roofing tear-offs from the waste stream.
Can a metal roof be installed over my existing shingles without a full tear-off?
Yes—one of metal roofing's practical advantages. Interlock's ultra-light weight means the Tile profile, at roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile, installs directly over most existing roofs without structural reinforcement. This eliminates the cost, mess, and waste of tearing off old shingles and hauling them away. Maritime Metal Roofing Ltd., serving the region since 2007, assesses your deck during a site visit and advises whether a tear-off is needed for structural integrity or local code compliance. In many Sherbrooke homes, the installation proceeds over the existing roof in 2–5 working days, minimizing disruption. The installer follows ICC-ES ESR-1790 specifications to ensure proper ventilation and drainage.
What roof styles does Interlock offer, and can they match my home's character?
Interlock manufactures five profiles: Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, and Mediterranean Tile. The Slate and Cedar Shingle profiles suit classic Maritime architecture; the Shake and Mediterranean Tile replicate high-end traditional materials; Standing Seam offers contemporary clean lines. Each profile is available in multiple colors, from aged copper tones to charcoal and cream, and colors are warranted 30 years against fading and chalking (ASTM D4214 / D2244 measured). The advantage over authentic slate, shake, or tile is not just longevity—it's the ability to choose a profile that matches your home's aesthetic while gaining aluminum's durability. Maritime Metal Roofing Ltd. can show you samples and help you select the profile and color that suit your property on Sherbrooke's Eastern Shore.
Is a metal roof a good choice for Sherbrooke’s climate?
Yes. Sherbrooke averages about 156 cm of snow, 1476 mm of rain, roughly 91 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 138 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
