Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Ajax, Ontario
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |

What our customers are saying:
The work was done neatly, and no issues with the roofers. They cleaned up after themselves at the end of the day.
Nothing they were perfect
He did a great job and we all are happy I am happy that we went with you for the roofing
The crew and workers are excellent, but the customer service is lacking. I need customer service to step up their game. Interlock Roofing could have improved communication regarding when the workers would be there. We had a good experience with the crew and workers here. It is just the customer service of Interlock Roofing that I have had a problem with.
I still have not received the warranty certificate.
Thanks for your services
When I first phoned Interlock, I was put on hold for around 1 hour and then connected to a third party who said they would get a message to Interlock and request them to call me in 24 hours. After 3 days, Susan of Interlock called me. After a 2 month waiting period, installation started 10 days after the promised date. We removed our solar panels based on Interlock's promised installation date and lost solar revenue for 10 days because Interlock did not keep its installation date commitment. We were promised that we would be informed if there was any change to the installation schedule. Schedules were changed and we were not informed. The Interlock installation crew truck broke down on the way to our house and the supervisor called to say that the installation would be delayed by 8 days. When I requested an earlier installation date due to the loss of revenue from our solar panels, the supervisor became angry and told me that he did not want to do my project and that I should get someone else to do it. I tried to call John Turnbull to report this but only got his voice mail. After calling 12 times, every half hour, I finally got John on the line and he promised to look into the matter. The roofing material was not strapped to the pallet properly and the cartons were strewn all over the inside of the delivery truck and some cartons were damaged. The supervisor was not around to supervise the entire installation which resulted in multiple installation errors which took half a day to correct. The supervisor did not return any of our calls and then told us that he did not check any of his messages because he wanted to spend more time with his children. Despite repeated requests, the installation crew did not clean up debris after each day of work. The rain washed this debris into our balcony drain and clogged it, leaving standing water on the balcony. The material and design of the Interlock aluminium roofing system is absolutely superb. If the poor customer service, lack of installation professionalism and tardiness in returning calls could be improved, I am sure Interlock will be able to deliver a much better customer experience and overall customer satisfaction than the one we received.
Interlock Roofing fell short of my expectations with contact from the salesperson after signing the contract.
We have received many compliments from neighbours and people just walking by. We are very happy with our new Interlock roof and would certainly recommend one to anyone contemplating a re-roofing.
Bob told me that they were going to send someone to take pictures.
I'm assuming something is coming in the mail in regards to the warranty, but I haven't heard anything about that.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Ajax
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Ajax, Ontario. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Ajax.
How does a metal roof handle Ajax's heavy snow loads and ice buildup?
Aluminum's smooth, hard surface sheds snow and ice far more effectively than asphalt shingles, reducing ice dam formation during Ajax's typical 82 freeze-thaw cycles per year. The four-way interlocking panels are engineered to support snow loads safely, and optional snow guards let you control shedding. At just 0.41 lb/sq ft for the Shingle profile, the roof itself adds minimal weight even when snow accumulates—your home's structure carries no extra burden. With about 103 cm of snow annually in the region, that ease of shedding becomes a real advantage through winter.
Will freeze-thaw cycles in Ontario damage my metal roof over time?
No—aluminum actually thrives in freeze-thaw climates. Unlike asphalt (which hardens and cracks) or wood (which splits), aluminum flexes slightly with temperature swings and resists damage. The material contains no iron, so the oxide layer that forms on its surface cannot rust even as moisture freezes and thaws. With Ajax averaging 82 freeze-thaw days per year and about 813 mm of annual rainfall, your roof meets the conditions that challenge traditional materials—and aluminum simply handles them. The 30-year Alunar coating warranty covers any chalking from weathering cycles too.
Why can't an aluminum roof rust like steel roofing can?
Aluminum contains no iron—the element that oxidizes and becomes rust. Instead, aluminum forms an extremely thin, self-healing oxide layer that actually protects the metal underneath. When the surface is scratched or damaged, this protective layer reforms automatically. For homeowners in Ajax, where salt-air drift from Lake Ontario isn't a concern but moisture and rain (813 mm annually) are constant, this means decades of protection without the corrosion risk that affects ferrous metals. The roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy meets ASTM B209 standards and is rated to last lifetimes without rusting.
Can my metal roof withstand Ajax's wind gusts and storms?
Yes, the four-way interlocking aluminum panels lock together like a continuous shield, warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h)—well above Ajax's typical wind gusts, which reach about 118 km/h. The design means wind cannot peel panels away at edges or seams the way it can lift asphalt shingles. During the heavy wind events that occur in south-central Ontario, that interlocking system gives you genuine peace of mind. The ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation confirms the installation method meets IBC/IRC code requirements for your region.
Can a metal roof actually lower my cooling costs in Ontario summers?
energy-efficient colors with high solar reflectance (up to 0.55) and thermal emissivity of 0.84 reflect the sun's heat rather than absorbing it like asphalt does, keeping your attic and upper floors cooler. In a region with about 3,081 sunshine hours per year and warm summer days, that reflection reduces air-conditioning demand. The Cool Roof Rating Council has verified these colors. You won't see tropical-climate savings, but measurable reductions are real—and they compound over decades. Metal roofs also don't degrade as quickly as asphalt in UV exposure, so reflectance stays stronger longer.
Is a metal roof really cheaper than replacing asphalt every 20 years?
Over 50 years, aluminum costs far less than the 2–3 asphalt replacements you'd otherwise need. A single installation—especially with the current promotion offering interest-free payments for 3 months and savings of at least $2,499—front-loads the expense, but eliminates tear-off labor, disposal fees, and repeated re-roofing. The Guardian Warranty is lifetime limited and non-prorated for the first owner, covering cracking, curling, and impact loss. When you total five decades of labor, materials, and landfill costs for asphalt, one aluminum roof becomes the financially sound choice.
How is a metal roof better for the environment than asphalt?
Aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable and never ends up in a landfill. Asphalt roofs, by contrast, generate millions of tons of waste with each tear-off cycle. Over your roof's life—especially across roughly 103 cm of snow and 813 mm of rain per year in Ajax—the asphalt replacement treadmill means multiple demolition cycles. Interlock aluminum stops that cycle on day one. The material is already made from recycled sources, CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance and environmental impact, and when your roof truly reaches end-of-life in decades, it returns to the recycling stream rather than a dump.
Do I need to strengthen my house frame before installing a metal tile roof?
No. The Mediterranean Tile profile weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than the concrete or clay tiles it replicates. Your existing roof structure, even an older Ajax home, can support this weight without reinforcement. You can often install directly over your current asphalt shingles, avoiding costly framing upgrades. This matters in older neighborhoods where structural modifications would be expensive and disruptive. The ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation confirms installation methods for typical residential framing, and the light weight is one reason the Guardian Warranty covers so many failure modes—the roof simply doesn't stress your home the way traditional tile does.
How long does it take to install a metal roof, and do I have to tear off the old one?
Installation typically takes 2–4 days depending on roof size and complexity, and your home stays secure throughout. In most cases, aluminum panels install directly over your existing asphalt roof—no tear-off needed. Interlock Metal Roofing (Ontario) Ltd. has served this region since 1998 and handles the process smoothly to minimize disruption. By avoiding demolition and waste removal, you save time and money while keeping your family dry. The four-way interlocking system means installers work methodically without complex sequencing, which keeps the timeline predictable even during Ajax's variable spring and fall weather windows.
Is there a local metal roofing installer I can trust in Ajax?
Interlock Metal Roofing (Ontario) Ltd. has been serving Ajax and the surrounding region continuously since 1998. They know local building codes, seasonal installation challenges, and Ajax homeowners' expectations. The current promotion—interest-free payments for 3 months and savings of at least $2,499 on installation—is available through the local team. They can walk you through the five profile options (Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, Mediterranean Tile), explain how each handles our regional climate (82 freeze-thaw days, 118 km/h wind gusts, 103 cm snow), and ensure your Guardian Warranty is properly registered and transferred if you sell.
