I have a new roof installed by Interlock and very pleased with the professionalism and aesthetics. My builder roof lasted 12 years and I needed something more durable. I spent months talking to steel roof installers and the thing that bothered me most, is whether the company will be around long enough to support warranty issues. The coatings were also prone to fading and I was looking for a worry free product. My research led me to select aluminum roofing with PVDF coating for durability and resistance to Color fade. The lifetime transferable warranty and fact that Interlock has been in business for over 40 years led me to contact the company. Interlock staff are courteous and Bruce gave a very fair price with a no pressure quote. My roof has some features that could affect aesthetics and Bruce arranged for special considerations at those locations. The installers were very courteous, and took the time necessary to do a great installation. They respected my views as a home owner and provided regular updates on progress and solutions. The installers cleaned up debris at the end of each day and coordinated with my neighbours to minimize impact from the roofing job. When rain was in the forecast the crew worked tirelessly to complete roofing sections that would be vulnerable to rainfall. Overall I am pleased with everyone’s efforts and now hope the roof will be durable for many years.

Work hours should be better,.and not in the dark It took 3weeks but work 12days and short hours. It was very different and stressful experience for me .Especially when you have to over look all the details work and can't see what's going on without a ladder. And make sure your worker doesn't damage my place. Like ladder scrapes on my deck and tar on the driveway and steps. Now I have to do a lot of cleaning in the spring.

Installation crew could have been more organized, work safer and be more observant to our property. Also seems it would be reasonable for them to have portable toilet.

Professional sales staff. Installed our interlock metal roof 3 years ago. No issues with leakage or colour fade. Looking forward to never having to replace the roof. Noticed a slight improvement with heat retention in the winter and cooler bedrooms in the summer.

1. We used Interlock because we were told it was one company. We wanted that. It turns out there are a bunch of suppliers, contractors, manufacturers etc. I will leave it at this: if we ever have an issue, I sure hope nobody tells me to "talk to someone else" (eg. the installation company). I would definitely blow my top if that happened. I strongly recommend you don't tell people it is one company vertically integrated top to bottom.2. I also recommend sales people have interlock emails (vs gmail) etc to have the appearance of a professional corporation vs a typical roofing company. 3. Everyone was professional to deal with and the job was eventually done to our satisfaction.4. It is hard to ask me if I'm happy with my roof since I bought it for a 50 year period. It is fine now, the real test is in 30 + years. I can say it looks good now, people were professional, etc...but I can't say if I'm happy as that can only be determined in the future. That doesn't mean I wouldn't recommend you. Overall happy, intend to recommend, hope it holds up long term and service is good if/when required...main issue is just too expensive and it is a hard sell...luckily we had some bad roof experiences so we were willing to pay up...but a harder sell for someone who gets 18 years from a $10K shingle roof with no problems. Anyway, good job and stay in touch and we will let you know if any neigbours or friends are interested.

Great team to work with. Roof looks great. The installer was meticulous and clean. Neighbours have been complimenting us and the fact that this roof is lifetime is awesome. No noise when it rains and it looks stunning.

Having spare parts on hand in case a mistake was made. Having an upper-level supervisor available at all times to be reached while the job was being done. Victor's crew completed the work on a Sunday and issues with the snow guards happened at this point. He said that he couldn't authorize or pick up additional snow guards and that Tony Lupton was away that weekend and could not be reached to resolve the problem (perhaps there should have been a backup contact instead). Victor also did not want to comeback on Monday to resolve the issue as this would have set his crew back and cost him money.

I like the product but I would not recommend them to anyone, I honestly thought it was a scam company the way things were handled. They could improve on keeping their promises of when they will be coming and the promise on when the project will be completed. They also need to either train their workers better or find people who are refined professionals. We've been home owners for 30 years and I've never had to call and complain so much to a company. We've done lots of work to homes and never have I had to complain day in and day out. I hope when we do the back porch I hope they don't hold these issues and complaints against me.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Oakville

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Oakville, Ontario. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Oakville.

How does a metal roof handle Oakville's snow and ice buildup?

Metal roofs shed snow and ice more effectively than asphalt because the smooth, hard surface prevents water from wicking into the material and refreezing. Oakville averages about 100 cm of snow annually with roughly 90 freeze-thaw cycles per year—conditions that crack and curl traditional shingles over time. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels create a continuous, rigid surface that doesn't expand or contract with temperature swings the way asphalt does. Snow guards can be added where needed to manage slide-off safely. The lightweight design (Shake profile at 0.58 lb/sq ft) means no structural reinforcement, so installation is straightforward even over your existing roof.

Will freeze-thaw cycles damage an aluminum metal roof in Ontario winters?

No. Aluminum is completely immune to freeze-thaw damage because it contains no iron and cannot rust or rot. Oakville experiences about 90 freeze-thaw days each year and roughly 100 cm of snow, conditions that cause asphalt to become brittle and crack, wood to split, and concrete to spall. Aluminum's oxide layer actually self-heals when scratched, so freezing moisture cannot penetrate and expand the way it does in porous materials. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating (warranted 30 years against chalking and fading per ASTM D4214) protects both sides of the panel, which is especially important in climates with wet-freeze cycles.

Can an aluminum metal roof rust in Oakville's wet climate?

Aluminum simply cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes and corrodes in steel. Instead, aluminum develops a thin, invisible oxide layer that acts like a self-healing shield. When the layer is scratched, aluminum immediately forms a new one, so corrosion cannot spread beneath the surface. Oakville receives about 748 mm of rain annually with occasional wind gusts to 111 km/h, so your roof faces constant moisture and salt spray from nearby roads. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish (applied to both sides of every panel) adds 30 years of extra chalking and fading protection. Steel or copper roofs will pit and corrode over decades; an aluminum roof stays structurally intact for life.

Is a metal roof safe in high winds? What about Oakville's winter gusts?

Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. Oakville's typical daily-max winds average 20 km/h with gusts recorded to 111 km/h, well within the roof's rated capacity. The interlocking design locks each panel to its neighbors on all four sides, so wind cannot slip underneath or lift panels loose. The ICC-ES evaluation report (ESR-1790, reissued 2025) confirms compliance with IBC/IRC wind uplift requirements for Ontario. Installation over a solid deck with proper fastening ensures your roof will stay put through winter storms and spring gales without the risk of panel separation or failure.

Does a metal roof hold up to hail? Could it lower my insurance premium?

Interlock's aluminum panels carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Class 4 is the same rating that insurers use to identify hail-resistant materials, so some homeowners qualify for premium discounts. Oakville's climate brings severe convective storms in spring and summer, making impact resistance a real asset. Aluminum's high strength-to-weight ratio (the Mediterranean Tile profile is about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile yet just as durable) means it absorbs impact without cracking or splintering. Contact your insurer to ask whether metal roofing qualifies you for a hail or impact-resistance discount—many do.

Will my house need structural reinforcement for a metal roof?

No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock's aluminum panels are extraordinarily light—the Shake profile installs at just 0.58 lb/sq ft, and the Mediterranean Tile at 0.59 lb/sq ft, making it roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Most existing roof frames were built to carry asphalt shingles plus snow load, and Oakville's average snow accumulation is about 100 cm per year. A metal roof weighs far less than that, so your home's framing has plenty of reserve capacity. The lightweight design also means installation can proceed over your existing roof without tear-off, saving time and disposal costs. This is one of aluminum's biggest practical advantages in a retrofit scenario.

How much maintenance does a metal roof really need?

Minimal. Aluminum requires no painting, sealing, staining, or replacement of individual panels—unlike asphalt shingles (which require granule raking), wood shakes (which split and rot after 20–30 years), or concrete tiles (which need regrouting and mold treatment). Oakville's 748 mm of annual rainfall and 100 cm of snow naturally rinse the roof clean. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating (warranted 30 years) resists chalking and fading even with about 3047 hours of annual sunshine, so color stays true. Twice-yearly gutter cleaning and occasional inspection for debris are all most homeowners need. The metal won't curl, crack, or lose impact resistance, so it's truly the last roof you'll buy.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost over a typical asphalt roof's life?

Yes. While metal carries a higher initial cost, asphalt requires replacement every 15–25 years, whereas Interlock's aluminum comes with a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner and is transferable to the next owner for 50 years from completion. In Oakville's climate (90 freeze-thaw cycles, 100 cm snow, 748 mm rain annually), asphalt deteriorates faster than in mild climates because freeze-thaw and moisture penetration shorten its useful life. Metal never needs tear-off and landfill disposal, so you avoid $1500–$3000 in labor and disposal costs each time you reroof. Over 50+ years, one metal roof costs far less than multiple asphalt replacements—and requires zero maintenance.

Does a metal roof help cool my house in summer, and is it energy efficient?

Yes. Interlock's energy-efficient colors have a thermal emissivity of 0.84 and initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny), meaning they reflect more heat than asphalt absorbs. Oakville averages about 3047 hours of annual sunshine, so reflective coatings reduce the heat load on air conditioning in summer. Cool Roof Rating Council data confirms that metal roofs reflect heat that asphalt converts to indoor warmth. Light-colored profiles (Slate in light finishes, for example) are especially effective. Lower cooling loads translate directly to reduced electricity consumption and smaller utility bills. The energy benefit compounds over the roof's 50+ year life, making metal a practical choice for homeowners concerned about summer cooling costs.

Who installs Interlock metal roofs in the Oakville area, and how experienced are they?

Interlock Metal Roofing (Ontario) Ltd. has served the South-Central Ontario region since 1998—the same year Interlock began manufacturing panels in Delta, BC. This means your local team has 25+ years of experience installing metal roofs in Oakville's exact climate: wet springs with 748 mm annual rainfall, heavy snow loads (about 100 cm yearly), and wind gusts reaching 111 km/h. They understand freeze-thaw cycles, snow shedding, and proper installation over existing roofs. The company is backed by ICC-ES evaluation ESR-1790 (reissued 2025) and Intertek testing (33876), so every installation meets or exceeds building code. Current regional promotion includes interest-free payments for 3 months and at least $2499 savings on installation.
