Metal Tiles Grimsby, ON Review 🇨🇦 — March 12, 2023 | Interlock®
Review: March 12, 2023 Completion: February 28, 2023The roof was supposed to be finished by the end of November 2022 and the real date was the end of February 2023. Our neighbors and friends were shocked at the delay and time it took. We explained that we only had one man working and the weather did not co-operate. It was winter. The roof should have been done in the fall, not the winter. We were so relieved when the job was FINALLY FINISHED!!!!!!

Grimsby metal roofing FAQ
How does a metal roof handle Grimsby's snow and ice buildup?
Metal roofs shed snow and ice far more effectively than asphalt because aluminum's smooth, hard surface resists adhesion; combined with Interlock's four-way interlocking panels, water drains cleanly without pooling. Grimsby averages about 97 cm of snow annually and roughly 81 freeze-thaw cycles per year—conditions that cause asphalt to crack and curl as it contracts and expands. Aluminum remains dimensionally stable through those cycles, and you can add snow guards where needed to manage shedding safely without risking the roof itself.
Will freeze-thaw cycling damage an aluminum metal roof?
No. Aluminum expands and contracts minimally compared to asphalt or wood, and it won't absorb moisture that freezes and splits the material. With about 81 freeze-thaw days per year in Grimsby's climate, this resistance is a real advantage—asphalt becomes brittle and develops stress cracks under the same cycling. Interlock's 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 roofing-grade aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) is engineered specifically for these conditions, and its oxide layer self-heals when scratched, keeping the metal protected through decades of seasonal swings.
Can an aluminum metal roof rust?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that corrodes into rust. Instead, aluminum oxidizes into a protective, self-healing layer that actually shields the metal underneath. This is why Interlock panels are installed from coastal salt-air homes to an Antarctic research station without degradation. The Alunar® 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish (applied to both sides and warranted 30 years against fading) adds extra defense. In Grimsby's 856 mm annual rainfall and temperate Niagara climate, you'll never worry about rust staining, structural weakening, or the maintenance burden that steel roofing demands.
Is a metal roof safe in Grimsby's wind gusts?
Yes. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. Grimsby experiences typical daily-max winds around 20 km/h with gusts reaching about 113 km/h—well within the roof's rated capacity. The interlocking design distributes lateral force across the entire panel system rather than relying on fasteners alone, so you get superior wind hold-down without visible exposed screws. This geometry has proven itself over 27 years of installations in storm-prone regions across North America.
What is the hail rating on a metal roof, and can it lower my insurance?
Interlock's aluminum panels achieve UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian warranty covers even perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Many homeowners see insurance premium reductions because Class 4 hail resistance demonstrates durability that insurers reward. In Grimsby's climate—roughly 3000 sunshine hours per year and variable spring/summer weather—hail events do occur. That Class 4 rating means you're protected against the most severe impacts, and the documented durability may prompt your insurer to offer rate relief that asphalt cannot match.
Does an aluminum metal roof really save on heating and cooling costs?
energy-efficient Interlock colors feature thermal emissivity of 0.84 and solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny profile), meaning they reflect heat that asphalt absorbs and re-radiates into the home. Over Grimsby's 10-year average of about 3000 sunshine hours annually, that reflectance reduces cooling load measurably during warmer months. The Cool Roof Rating Council rating verifies this performance. While Grimsby's mean temperature hovers around 10°C, the combination of reflected summer heat and the roof's thermal stability across roughly 81 freeze-thaw cycles makes aluminum's energy efficiency a year-round asset.
Do I need to reinforce my home's frame for a metal roof?
No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock's aluminum panels are extraordinarily light—the Mediterranean Tile profile installs at approximately 0.59 lb/sq ft, making it about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Even the heavier Shake profile (0.58 lb/sq ft) weighs a fraction of traditional materials, so existing framing on virtually all homes accepts the load without modification. This lightweight advantage lets you install over most existing roofs without costly structural work, saving time and money during the upgrade—especially important when you're protecting a Grimsby home from about 856 mm of annual rainfall and the wear that brings.
How long does metal roof installation take, and can it go over my existing shingles?
Installation timelines vary by roof size and complexity, but most Grimsby homes complete in days rather than weeks. Yes, Interlock panels install directly over existing asphalt shingles in most cases—no full tear-off required. This means less disruption, faster completion, and reduced labor and disposal costs. Your Interlock Metal Roofing (Ontario) Ltd. installer will assess your roof deck during an on-site evaluation to confirm suitability and prepare a timeline. Since the new roof weighs so little (the Tile profile is ~96% lighter than traditional tile), structural upgrades are almost never necessary, and you avoid the mess and expense of an asphalt tear-off.
Is a metal roof better for the environment than asphalt shingles?
Yes. Interlock aluminum panels are approximately 95% recyclable at end of life, meaning the material returns to the aluminum supply stream rather than a landfill. Asphalt shingles, by contrast, generate millions of tons of landfill waste annually because they're difficult to recycle. Over Grimsby's climate with about 856 mm annual rainfall and variable freeze-thaw stress, an asphalt roof typically lasts 15–20 years and must be torn off and hauled away, repeating the landfill cycle. Interlock's lifetime limited warranty (transferable 50 years to the next owner) means one installation ends the cycle—you buy it once and never tear it off. That's both environmental stewardship and smart economics.
What warranty does an Interlock metal roof come with?
The Guardian warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It's transferable once, giving the next owner 50 years of protection from the completion date. This coverage reflects Interlock's confidence in its roofing-grade 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) and Alunar® 70% PVDF finish (30-year coating warranty). For a Grimsby home enduring roughly 97 cm of snow, about 81 freeze-thaw days, and gusts to 113 km/h annually, the Guardian warranty delivers peace of mind that asphalt simply cannot match—you're protected for as long as you own the home.
