What our customers are saying:
Definitely. We saw one of your roofs that had been installed at least 25 years ago, and it still looks great. So, you have a great product and would definitely recommend you to anyone we know is thinking of a metal roof.
I think they could improve on communication. The cleanup for the second project wasn't an issue. There was just some miscommunication with measurements, etc. However, I am completely happy with the job. It is very well done. It was just getting there was a little difficult.
Interlock Metal Roofing - ON could improve on their communication and the clean up. The roof looks great.
Our experience with everyone of the company and the project manager, Bruce was nothing but pleasant! My wife has never commented on any projects that we undertook so positively for our home but she was so very much impressed by how responsive Bruce was when she had any concerns over the duration of the project! The roof installation is pretty much completed except some minor deficiencies at this time! We have nothing but positive feedbacks and compliments from our neighbours and friends! Positive: Responsiveness, Quality, Professionalism Services: Roof installation
Why spend money on asphalt shingles when Interlock Roofing is for life. Your company seems to have it working very well.
So far there have been no problems with the roof. We never did get a promotional poster to put in front of our house.
I have not been credited back for a full box of shingles and I was also charged for the labor work of gutter guard removal but in fact was not needed but no one reimbursed for that also
I like your product but at 2.5 times the roofing cost it's quite high considering it's aluminum with a patterned embossed in it and a coating for looks.
I think that the installers could be a bit more careful with the gutters guards and screens. Having said that the install on my roof looks fantastic. I'm very pleased with their work. I love my roof! I have had so many compliments on my new roof!
Gable end finished edge caps present uncentre install. There is a distinct run difference (verticle misalignment of tiles) presented with the edge capping

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Welland
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Welland, Ontario. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Welland.
How does a metal roof handle Welland's snow and ice buildup?
Interlock's four-way interlocking panels shed snow and ice more effectively than asphalt because the aluminum surface is harder and smoother, preventing ice from bonding. With about 98 cm of snow falling annually across the Niagara Peninsula, the light weight of Interlock panels—the Shingle at just 0.41 lb/sq ft—means no structural reinforcement is needed, even when snow accumulates. The standing seam and shake profiles include optional snow guards, which you can install to control slide-off in specific areas. Aluminum's non-porous finish also resists water absorption, so freeze-thaw cycles (about 77 per year in Welland) won't degrade the material or cause the cracking and splitting that shorten asphalt and wood shake life.
Why does freeze-thaw cycling in Welland damage some roofs but not aluminum?
Freeze-thaw damage occurs when water enters a material, freezes, expands, and cracks it—a cycle Welland experiences roughly 77 times per year. Interlock aluminum panels are non-porous and sealed with a two-sided Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating, so water cannot penetrate the material itself. Even if the aluminum's oxide layer is scratched, it self-heals—it cannot rust or corrode like steel. Asphalt and wood shake absorb moisture and split under repeated freezing; concrete tile develops internal cracks that accelerate once water enters. Over Welland's 857 mm of annual rainfall, this protection adds years of usable life. The Guardian warranty covers cracking and curling, but those failures simply do not occur in roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum when properly installed.
Can an aluminum roof rust in a climate like Welland's?
No. Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—rusting requires iron oxide formation, which is chemically impossible in pure aluminum alloy. Instead, aluminum develops a thin, self-healing oxide layer that actually protects the metal underneath. Interlock panels use roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum (ASTM B209), coated on both sides with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon, warranted 30 years against fading and chalking. Even in aggressive environments—the product has been installed from coastal salt-air homes to an Antarctic research station—this dual-side coating ensures durability. With Welland's 857 mm annual rainfall and potential salt-spray exposure from Lake Ontario proximity, the non-corrosive nature of aluminum is a direct advantage over steel, which will rust and fail within 20–30 years in similar conditions.
Are Interlock panels secure in Welland's wind gusts?
Yes. Interlock's four-way mechanical interlocking system is warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h). Welland's typical wind gusts reach about 123 km/h—right at the edge of major wind events—so the 120 mph warranty covers your region's extreme weather with a safety margin built in by proper installation. The interlocking design means panels are secured to one another and to the roof deck; no single gust can lift or separate them. This engineering also explains why the system passes the ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 for both IBC and IRC building codes. Homeowners often compare metal roofs to asphalt, which can tear and lift in sustained gusts above 80 mph. Interlock's mechanical lock gives you peace of mind during the 3028 hours of sunshine and clear-weather wind patterns that characterize Welland's climate.
What hail protection does Interlock offer, and can it lower my insurance?
Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Class 4 means the panels withstand repeated impacts from 2-inch steel balls dropped from 20 feet without cracking. While Welland's hail risk is moderate, this rating often qualifies you for insurance discounts because insurers recognize the durability; contact your agent with the UL 2218 certification. Concrete and clay tile can achieve Class 4 but weigh 2500–3000 lb per square, requiring costly structural reinforcement. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile weighs just 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter—so you gain hail protection without roof-frame upgrades. Combined with the non-combustible aluminum (Class A fire rating available), Interlock's resilience often translates into tangible savings on your premium.
Can my roof framing support a metal roof, or will I need structural work?
Most homes can support Interlock without reinforcement because the panels weigh almost nothing. The Shake profile installs at about 0.58 lb/sq ft; the Mediterranean Tile, which replicates heavy clay or concrete tile, weighs just 0.59 lb/sq ft—approximately 96% lighter than authentic tile. By contrast, clay tile weighs 1200 lb per 100 sq ft (12 lb/sq ft), and concrete tile runs 1500 lb per 100 sq ft. Interlock can install directly over most existing asphalt or wood shake roofs without tearing off, which saves labor and keeps debris out of landfills. The ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 (reissued 2025) confirms the system meets IBC and IRC code requirements for standard residential framing. This is a major advantage in Welland, where a typical home can avoid $3,000–$8,000 in structural engineering and reinforcement costs while still gaining the aesthetic of premium materials.
What does Interlock's warranty actually cover, and how long is it good?
The Guardian warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. Because aluminum cannot rust and the Alunar 70% PVDF coating is warranted 30 years against fading, the structural life of the panels themselves often exceeds 50 years under normal use. The warranty is one-time transferable: if you sell, the next owner receives a 50-year term from completion—a strong selling point in Welland's real estate market. This contrasts sharply with asphalt shingles (15–25 years), wood shake (20–30 years with maintenance), and even high-end slate or tile, which require ongoing repairs and can develop hidden internal cracks from freeze-thaw cycling. In Welland's climate, with 77 freeze-thaw days per year, Interlock's non-porous, non-splitting material ensures you will likely install it only once.
Will a metal roof help reduce cooling costs in Welland's summer?
Yes. Interlock offers energy-efficient colors with thermal emissivity up to 0.84 and solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny profile), rated by the Cool Roof Rating Council. These values mean the metal reflects a substantial portion of the sun's heat back into the atmosphere rather than absorbing it into your home. Welland receives about 3028 hours of sunshine annually, so even modest summertime cooling savings compound over decades. Metal's continuous, flat surface also eliminates the air gaps that form under asphalt shingles, which trap heat and drive up attic temperatures in summer. The reflective coating reduces roof surface temperatures by 20–40°F compared to dark asphalt, lowering HVAC runtime and monthly utility bills. For winter, aluminum's low conductivity means less heat loss than some materials. Over the roof's 50-year life, energy savings alone can offset a portion of the material cost.
Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt over the long term?
Metal costs more initially—typically 2–3× the price of asphalt—but the lifetime value is substantially higher. Asphalt shingles last 15–25 years; Interlock is designed for 50+ years. A Welland homeowner replacing asphalt twice over the next 50 years faces two tear-offs, two full installations, and 100+ tons of asphalt in the landfill. Interlock's non-prorated lifetime limited warranty and transferable 50-year term also support resale value; buyers often pay a premium for a roof they will never need to replace. Energy savings on heating and cooling, hail/wind resistance reducing insurance claims, and zero maintenance compared to asphalt's periodic nail pops and debris removal add up. Current financing—interest-free payments for 3 months and savings of at least $2,499 on installation—makes the entry price more accessible. When you calculate total cost of ownership (material, labor, energy, maintenance, and disposal) over 50 years, Interlock typically costs less per year than the asphalt replacement cycle.
What does the installation process look like, and can you install over my existing roof?
Yes, Interlock can install over most existing asphalt or wood shake roofs without tearoff. Installation begins with inspection of the existing deck and flashing; if the deck is sound, the new panels install directly over it, which saves labor, keeps waste out of landfills, and reduces project timeline. Installers secure panels to the deck with approved fasteners and sealant; the four-way interlocking design then binds each panel to its neighbors, creating a unified weather-tight surface. Flashing, ridge caps, and valleys are custom-fitted to match your profile (Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, or Mediterranean Tile). The process typically takes 3–7 days depending on roof size and complexity. Interlock Metal Roofing (Ontario) Ltd. has served the Niagara Peninsula region since 1998, so crews are familiar with Welland's building codes (ICC-ES ESR-1790), local permitting, and regional weather patterns. A solid deck and proper underlayment ensure the roof performs as designed, even under Welland's 98 cm of annual snow and 123 km/h gusts.
