Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Old Saybrook, Connecticut
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
Everybody was great to work with highly professional. Any underlying damage was all taken care of and we love the roof.
> We had the pleasure of meeting Jonathan Brown at the Mohegan Sun Home Show and couldn’t pass up the opportunity to tell him how happy we are with our Interlock roof of ~20 years. We constantly receive compliments from people passing by on how beautiful it looks. Most of all, we appreciate the peace of mind it gives us—knowing we’ll never have to replace our roof, thanks to the lifetime warranty and guaranteed protection against leaks.
Jonathan was great help getting us all the information needed for the roof and what to expect, and the whole process. The installation was fast, the roofers were hard working and professional. The look of the metal roof is superb!
It was a pleasure working with Interlock from beginning to end. The back office was good about setting expectations for job start and duration, delivery of materials (which happened on time) and work to be performed. They were also good about making adjustments to work with trim that needed to be replaced, etc. The crew that did the install and cleanup was very professional and hard working. I am extremely satisfied with the end result and would definitely recommend Interlock! This is actually my second roof, I had one installed on a different property 20 years ago and it has held the test of time with virtually no maintenance.
What a beautiful roof. We are so happy and now we have a forever roof. Thank you. Techs were great. Positive: Punctuality, Quality Services: Roof installation
Salesman was very courteous and polite. Straight forward no hype or fluff. Company kept constant contact, took care of the required building permits. Had the dumpster and materials delivered on time and removed quickly. The crew was phenomenal, polite courteous. Explained everything, and was very conscientious about their work. If the the nail didn't go in the way he liked he pulled it and did it right. Nailing was all done by hand. Roof has been great since no issues and still looks great. Over all very pleased and well worth the money.
Couldn’t have chosen a better product, it’s been 2 years since installation and have absolutely no issues. The house is cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. Speaking of winter it’s only a matter of hours after a snow storm that all the snow slides right off, no more ice dams and ice filled gutters. The installers were awesome had the entire roof done in a day and a half and cleaned up prior to leaving. We love our Interlock roof.
This letter has been a long time in coming. My husband and I had an Interlock Roof installed in November 2009 and have been meaning to tell you how pleased we are with the look of the new roof and the service provided by the installers ~ Nazaar and Vitality. We’ve gotten many questions and compliments from friends, neighbors and passersby. Both our home and detached garage needed to be re-roofed, with both requiring removal of the old roofing material and the installation of plywood before applying the Interlock product. We were originally told that it would take up to 2 weeks for the job to be completed. To our amazement, the job was completed within a week’s time and that included inclement weather! Nazaar and Vitaliy put in very long days, were very polite, honored their commitments and ALWAYS cleaned everything up before they left for the day. We have children and a dog and found not one nail in the yard after the job was completed. Based on this experience and a product that speaks for itself, we would definitely recommend an Interlock Roof!
I wish to thank " target="\_blank" rel="noopener">Interlock Industries, Inc. for a great roofing system. I'm 100% satisfied and it has a clean and beautiful look. It's great! It's wonderful to know the roof never need replacement again. I also wish to thank Bob Allen, Jerry and Paul McAllister for being so helpful in completing the work. I know this " target="\_blank" rel="noopener">roof system was right when we met Bob Allen the first time, he explained everything in detail. Everything he said was correct. The men who did the work were polite and respectiful, and were clean and neat in the work process. Thank you guys. I would recommend an Interlock Roof for every home, or any building and the long term ">cost is less than another roof system.
Sorry I didn’t get this to you sooner, but I just wanted to drop you a line on the excellent installation of my roof by Nazar and Sergei. They installed our roof in February and never let the harsh weather affect their attention to detail and their determination to do quality work. I was very fortunate to get these two Ukrainian gentlemen as my installers.
I am writing to tell you how much my wife and I are satisfied with our new roof from Interlock Roofing. Our old asphalt shingles were showing the effects of time both aesthetically and functionally. Most noticeably was the water mark on the living room ceiling that just kept growing with each passing rain. We certainly weren't looking forward to buying a new roof, since we were still paying for our wedding six months before, but knew we had to do something soon. I mentioned to Dawn that I had heard metal roofs were becoming popular because of how long they last; but she was concerned our home would look like a fast food restaurant, a factory, or even worse a tin roof barn. She made it clear that a modern looking metal roof would ruin the look of our 1860s vintage home. I said I thought I had seen a couple of years ago a house that was done with what I thought the sign said was metal but looked like shingles instead of ridged sheets she pictured. The problem was I couldn't remember the name of the roofer – just that they had an orange sign. A friend of our mentioned there was a Home Show coming up in Worchester and we figured it would be fun to look around and dream about improvements we could make. As we walked the aisles, I saw your familiar orange sign and product display booth. I said to Dawn look at this! This looks really nice – it looks just like " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">slate! Wouldn't that look really great on our house! Two weeks later, you explained what made Interlock Roofing different from other materials and the lifetime " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">warranty helped us feel confident in making what was for us a major purchase decision. Although an Interlock roof might cost more initially, we think it is well worth it knowing we will never have to buy another roof for this home again. Your company and crews are great! A representative called to let us know materials were being delivered and when they arrived they were neatly stored out of the way until the work began. A supervisor called to let us know when the work would begin, and except for two days of rain which delayed their start, the job was completed within the estimated three days. At the end of each day, they cleaned up after themselves and when the job was competed they raked up any pieces that may have been missed in the grass. The completed roof looks great and enhances the appearance of our home. We have had many people stop and compliment us on it and at least one had already installed an Interlock roof of their own. Should we ever move from this home in the future, one of the features we will look for is an Interlock roof or plan on upgrading to one in our new home as well.
Just wanted to let you know that we are very satisfied with the aluminum interlocking roof which was installed in July of 2005. It was amazing to us how quickly and efficiently your men worked in removing our old asphalt layers of roof and installing the new one. Needless to say, we were very impressed with their work as well as our new roof! Unfortunately, during installation of the roof, damage was done to the interior ceiling of our dining room. Interlock did respond and the damaged area was repaired in a timely manner. Unfortunately our existing ceilings are plaster and the repaired area was done in wallboard which simply do not match. In order for this to be repaired properly, the entire ceiling has to be repainted with a light texture. Whatever you can do to help rectify the pending repair to the interior ceiling would be greatly appreciated. We look forward to speaking with you in the near future. Once again, thank you for offering us the opportunity to upgrade our home with an outstanding roof.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Old Saybrook
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Old Saybrook, Connecticut. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Old Saybrook.
Will a metal roof handle Connecticut's freeze-thaw cycles?
Yes—aluminum actually thrives in freeze-thaw conditions because it has no iron and cannot rust. Old Saybrook experiences about 83 freeze-thaw days per year, and each cycle expands and contracts the roof; aluminum's naturally occurring oxide layer self-heals when scratched, so it won't corrode from salt spray or repeated temperature swings like steel would. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating (warranted 30 years) adds another layer of protection against the chemical stress of winter salt and spring moisture.
How does an aluminum metal roof handle heavy snow in Old Saybrook?
Aluminum roofing sheds snow and ice far better than asphalt because it's slick and won't hold melt-freeze cycles the way shingles do. Old Saybrook averages about 71 cm of snow annually; the light weight of Interlock panels—the Shingle profile at just 0.41 lb/sq ft—means no structural reinforcement is needed, even during peak snow load. The four-way interlocking system grips each panel so firmly that snow guards, if you choose them, anchor securely and won't shift under freeze-thaw stress.
Can aluminum metal roofing rust in a coastal Connecticut climate?
Aluminum simply cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes when exposed to moisture and salt. Old Saybrook sits in a coastal zone with salt-air exposure and about 1,249 mm of annual rainfall; steel roofs rust in these conditions, but aluminum develops a thin, self-healing oxide layer that actually protects the material underneath. Interlock has installed systems from coastal salt-air homes to an Antarctic research station since 1998, proving the durability of roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy in the harshest damp and corrosive environments.
Is a metal roof secure in Connecticut wind and nor'easters?
Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification, which far exceeds the typical gusts in Old Saybrook (average daily winds about 18 km/h with gusts to 135 km/h, or roughly 84 mph). The interlocking system transfers wind load across the entire panel network rather than relying on fasteners alone, so even the teeth-rattling gusts that come up the Connecticut coast won't lift or shift a properly installed roof.
What hail rating does an Interlock metal roof have, and will it help my insurance?
Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4, the highest hail impact rating available, and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Many insurance carriers recognize this durability and offer discounts on metal roofing; contact your agent with the UL 2218 Class 4 rating and ICC-ES ESR-1790 compliance report to ask about premium reductions. With Old Saybrook's 83 annual freeze-thaw days and spring storm activity, that Class 4 rating is practical protection, not just a number on paper.
Do I need to reinforce my house structure for a metal roof?
No reinforcement is needed. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than real concrete or clay tile—so it installs over most existing roofs without structural work. Asphalt shingles average 2–3 lb/sq ft, so an Interlock metal roof actually lightens the load on your frame. This is especially valuable in Old Saybrook, where the combination of about 1,249 mm annual rainfall and 71 cm of snow means your roof carries real weight during heavy weather; switching to aluminum removes that burden without sacrificing the tile look.
Will a metal roof leak in heavy rain or ice backup?
Interlock panels are engineered to shed water continuously. Old Saybrook receives about 1,249 mm of rain yearly, and the four-way interlocking seams direct water downward and outward—standing water cannot pool at panel joints. Installed with solid decking and underlayment per spec, the roof is as silent and dry as asphalt in a downpour. Unlike asphalt, metal won't absorb moisture, so mold and rot are not concerns even after weeks of damp spring weather; ice dams can still form on very low-slope roofs regardless of material, but the slick aluminum surface prevents the thermal cycling that causes shingles to curl and allow seepage.
How much upkeep does a metal roof really need?
Virtually none. Unlike asphalt shingles, which curl and lose granules in Old Saybrook's 83 annual freeze-thaw days, Interlock aluminum doesn't split, crack, or rot. The Alunar fluorocarbon coating is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading (ASTM D4214 and D2244 measured), so color stays true through decades of sun, salt, and rain. A rinse with a garden hose every few years keeps gutters clear; that's it. Wood shakes and real tile require regular sealing, replacement, and moss treatment—metal requires none of that.
What's the real lifespan of an Interlock metal roof, and what does the warranty cover?
The Guardian warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for you (the original owner), covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. When you sell, the next owner gets 50 years from completion—a real transferable benefit that adds resale appeal. Aluminum doesn't age out like asphalt (which fails in 15–20 years in New England's freeze-thaw climate); a properly installed Interlock roof will outlast mortgages and still be protecting the next owners.
Will an aluminum metal roof keep my house cooler and lower energy bills?
energy-efficient Interlock colors with thermal emissivity of 0.84 and initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny) reflect heat that dark asphalt absorbs, reducing cooling loads in summer. Old Saybrook averages about 3,111 sunshine hours annually, so that reflectance adds up over time. The Cool Roof Rating Council certification means the roof actively works against heat gain while asphalt acts like a thermal battery, storing and releasing heat into the attic. Lower air-conditioning demand means lower electricity bills—especially valuable as summer temperatures climb.
