Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Wallingford, Connecticut
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |

What our customers are saying:
> We had the pleasure of meeting Jonathan Brown at the Mohegan Sun Home Show and couldn’t pass up the opportunity to tell him how happy we are with our Interlock roof of ~20 years. We constantly receive compliments from people passing by on how beautiful it looks. Most of all, we appreciate the peace of mind it gives us—knowing we’ll never have to replace our roof, thanks to the lifetime warranty and guaranteed protection against leaks.
Dear Friends at Interlock, When we were asked to write a letter of approval for our new Interlock roof, we weren't ready to write one. We weren't sure that our homes leaky roof history was cured - at least we weren't sure then. Even though the Interlock roof looked beautiful, we were still hesitant. We spoke with Jerry, your sales rep, before our purchase and we discussed our concerns with him. He thoroughly explained how the Interlock roofing is manufactured, that it is maintenance-free and explained Interlocks "lifetime guarantee". We felt after considering all the facts we were ready to invest in this exceptional product. The installers were outstanding. They were on-time, consistently at work, and thoroughly cleaned up after themselves every day. They even returned after the work was completed, a few weeks later, to readjust our gutters. We now can say how very pleased we are with our new Interlock roof. Its distinctive appearance and beauty adds value to our home. Many people stop by to look and have remarked on the clean, classy look. On our brother's recent visit he commented on the beauty of our roof and said 'wow, it looks great. Only the best, right?' Yes, he is right, only the best.
Just wanted to let you know that we are very satisfied with the aluminum interlocking roof which was installed in July of 2005. It was amazing to us how quickly and efficiently your men worked in removing our old asphalt layers of roof and installing the new one. Needless to say, we were very impressed with their work as well as our new roof! Unfortunately, during installation of the roof, damage was done to the interior ceiling of our dining room. Interlock did respond and the damaged area was repaired in a timely manner. Unfortunately our existing ceilings are plaster and the repaired area was done in wallboard which simply do not match. In order for this to be repaired properly, the entire ceiling has to be repainted with a light texture. Whatever you can do to help rectify the pending repair to the interior ceiling would be greatly appreciated. We look forward to speaking with you in the near future. Once again, thank you for offering us the opportunity to upgrade our home with an outstanding roof.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Wallingford
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Wallingford, Connecticut. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Wallingford.
Will a metal roof handle Connecticut's freeze-thaw cycles?
Yes — aluminum expands and contracts uniformly, and Interlock's four-way interlocking design accommodates thermal movement without cracking or separating. Wallingford experiences about 72 freeze-thaw days per year with average annual snowfall near 65 cm, conditions that would cause traditional asphalt shingles and wood to split and curl. Aluminum's non-porous oxide layer resists water absorption, so ice buildup doesn't penetrate the material; the panels shed meltwater efficiently, reducing ice-dam formation and the structural stress that damages roofs in repeated freeze cycles.
How does a metal roof perform under heavy snow in New England?
Metal roofs shed snow safely when installed to spec because their smooth, hard surface allows snow to slide rather than compress and trap moisture. With Wallingford's typical 65 cm annual snowfall and gusts reaching 126 km/h, snow guard options are available if you want to control shedding into a living space or pathway. The light weight of Interlock panels—the Shingle at just 0.41 lb/sq ft—means your home's structure carries far less load than slate or concrete tile would, even when snow accumulates. Aluminum also won't absorb meltwater, preventing the rot and structural decay common in wood-based materials after multiple thaw cycles.
Can metal roofing handle Wallingford's rainfall without leaking?
The four-way interlocking panel design creates a weather-tight seal that sheds Wallingford's average 1232 mm of annual rainfall. Each panel overlaps its neighbors on all four sides, so water runs down and off rather than pooling or seeping into fastener holes—a common failure point in asphalt roofs. When installed over a solid deck with underlayment, the system functions like traditional roofing; the deck itself, not the metal, is the primary water barrier. This redundancy is why metal roofs frequently outlast the homes they protect: the aluminum panels remain watertight for decades while asphalt loses its waterproofing ability within 15–20 years.
Will an aluminum metal roof rust in Connecticut's wet climate?
No — aluminum contains no iron, so it is physically incapable of rusting. The material naturally forms a thin, self-healing oxide layer that protects the underlying aluminum from corrosion; if the surface is scratched, the oxide reforms automatically. Interlock panels are also finished with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating on both sides (even the underside, for extra salt-air protection), warranted 30 years against chalking and fading. In Wallingford's moderate climate with about 19 km/h typical winds and 3134 sunshine hours per year, this coating ages very slowly. Steel roofing, by contrast, requires constant vigilance: rust spreads beneath the paint, fasteners corrode, and a single pinhole leak can compromise the entire roof within years.
Does Interlock's hail rating matter for homeowners in Connecticut?
Yes — Interlock panels carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating, the highest available, and the Guardian warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. While Wallingford's typical gust speeds are 126 km/h, severe thunderstorms can produce damaging hail, and some insurance carriers offer premium discounts for non-combustible, impact-resistant roofing. Even without a hail event, Class 4 impact resistance means the panels resist foot traffic, tree-branch contact, and debris damage that would dent or crack asphalt or tile. That durability often translates to lower insurance costs and fewer claims over the roof's lifetime—a hidden financial benefit homeowners rarely consider upfront.
Can metal roofing withstand New England wind and storms?
Interlock panels are warranted to resist sustained wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification, far exceeding Wallingford's typical gusts of 126 km/h. The four-way interlocking design distributes wind load across the entire panel network rather than relying on individual fasteners, which is why metal roofs have survived hurricanes and tornadoes that tore asphalt shingles apart. In high-wind regions, wind performance matters not just for catastrophic storms but for daily durability: asphalt shingles begin lifting and curling at 60–80 mph, creating micro-gaps where water infiltrates during heavy rain. Interlock's mechanical interlock prevents this creeping failure, keeping the roof sealed for the full lifespan.
Do I need to reinforce my home's structure for a metal roof?
No — Interlock's aluminum panels are extraordinarily light, weighing as little as 0.41 lb/sq ft for the Shingle profile. The Mediterranean Tile profile, which replicates the look of heavy concrete or clay tile, weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than the real thing. This means most existing homes in Wallingford can upgrade to a metal roof without structural modification, even when installing over an existing asphalt roof. By comparison, a slate or ceramic tile roof demands costly reinforcement to walls, trusses, and foundations. Aluminum's light weight translates directly to lower installation costs and opens metal roofing to homes where traditional tile was never structurally feasible.
What's the real warranty on an Interlock metal roof?
The Guardian Warranty offers a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It's transferable once to the next owner, who receives 50 years of warranty coverage from the completion date—a powerful selling point that reflects the roof's actual lifespan. Most asphalt roofs require replacement after 15–25 years, meaning the average homeowner buys two or three asphalt roofs over a 50-year period. Interlock aims to be the last roof you install. The 30-year coating warranty (against chalking and fading per ASTM standards) and the non-prorated structure mean the roof performs as well in year 25 as in year 1, unlike asphalt's predictable degradation.
Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt?
Over the roof's full life, metal costs less. An asphalt roof in Wallingford lasts 15–25 years and requires disposal of old shingles; at typical replacement intervals, a homeowner pays for three asphalt roofs in 50 years. Interlock's Guardian Warranty covers the original owner for life and the next owner for 50 years, eliminating replacement cycles. Factor in current promotion—no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation—and the monthly cost becomes competitive with asphalt while you eliminate tear-off waste and avoid the ongoing maintenance that asphalt demands (re-sealing, fastener replacement, algae treatment). The transferable warranty also boosts resale value: the next owner inherits a 50-year guarantee, making your home more attractive than one with a new asphalt roof that will need replacing again in 20 years.
How much maintenance does an Interlock metal roof need?
Minimal — Interlock panels require only occasional inspection and debris removal, verified under CALGreen reduced-maintenance standards. Unlike asphalt, there's no re-sealing, no fastener replacement, and no algae or moss treatment needed. The aluminum doesn't absorb water or UV damage like asphalt, and the Alunar coating resists fading and chalk for 30 years even under Wallingford's 3134 annual sunshine hours. Wood shakes and shingles demand regular cleaning, staining, and repair to prevent rot and insect damage, especially in a climate with 65 cm of snow and 72 freeze-thaw days per year. Metal requires none of that: the oxide layer and fluorocarbon finish do the work for you. Homeowners typically spend less on maintenance over 30 years than they save by avoiding a single asphalt replacement.
