My husband and I didn't realize we had 3 roofs that needed to be tore off. I wish once they found out about the 3rd they could have communicated that with us instead at the end requesting more money. Professional, understanding, polite, and all round just excellent service. We will be back.

Review: November 30, 2023Completion: October 31, 2023

This project has been a roller coaster: First they were doing a good job, then not, then they assured us of the results and things looked good until we questioned something and they completely dropped the ball. They took our money and never followed up. Communication by Allen Gessell seems to be the weak link. He was horrible and ghosted us. It is a HUGE SHAME that what could have been a wonderful situation has become a fearful nightmare!

If he gave me a business card, I don't know what happened to it. It's usually attached to a brochure. Because I always follow up with a note to thank the person who took the time to do business with us. I could not do that because I didn't have anything. So much disconnection, which is bad.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Merrionette Park

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Merrionette Park, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Merrionette Park.

Will metal roofing handle Merrionette Park's freeze-thaw cycles?

Yes—aluminum actually thrives in freeze-thaw conditions. With about 70 freeze-thaw days per year in Cook County, your roof experiences constant expansion and contraction. Aluminum's molecular structure accommodates this movement without cracking or splitting, unlike asphalt that becomes brittle or slate that fractures. The Alunar coating (warranted 30 years) remains flexible across temperature swings, and the four-way interlocking panels shed ice melt without trapping water in seams where it can freeze and force damage.

How does Interlock metal roofing perform under Merrionette Park's snow load?

The light weight of Interlock panels—the Slate profile at just 0.41 lb/sq ft—means your roof can handle the approximately 120 cm of snow this area receives annually without structural strain. Unlike slate or concrete tile (which weigh 30–50 pounds per square foot), aluminum panels stay secure under heavy accumulation, reducing ice-dam risk because their smooth interlocked surface and low thermal mass prevent the freeze-melt-refreeze cycle. Optional snow guards anchor easily to the four-way interlocking system if you want additional drift control.

Are metal roofs safe in Cook County windstorms?

Merrionette Park experiences typical gusts around 93 km/h, well within Interlock's 120 mph (193 km/h) wind warranty threshold. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels lock each sheet to its neighbors, distributing wind pressure across the entire roof plane rather than allowing individual shingles to lift. This mechanical interlock, combined with proper fastening per ICC-ES ESR-1790 installation specs, means your roof remains secure during the occasional severe gust—and the warranty covers it.

Why choose aluminum roofing instead of steel in Illinois?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes into rust. When exposed to moisture (you'll receive about 1042 mm of rain yearly in Cook County), aluminum develops a microscopic oxide layer that actually protects the underlying metal. If this layer scratches, it self-heals within weeks. The roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy used in every Interlock panel, paired with the dual-sided Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish, means your roof resists corrosion through decades of wet Midwest winters without the deterioration that affects steel-based competitors.

Will hail damage my metal roof, and could it lower my insurance?

Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This non-combustible aluminum construction (Class A fire rating available) often qualifies homeowners for insurance discounts on both hail and wind coverage. Contact your insurer with the UL 2218 Class 4 documentation; many carriers reward impact-resistant roofs with 10–15% premium reductions, offsetting installation cost over time.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost versus asphalt shingles?

Asphalt shingles need replacement every 15–25 years; Interlock comes with a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner and a one-time transferable 50-year warranty for the next owner. Over 50 years, you'll install asphalt 2–3 times (labor plus disposal), whereas aluminum installs once, requires minimal maintenance, and stays in place. The Guardian Warranty covers rusting, rotting, cracking, and impact loss—costs asphalt owners pay repeatedly—making metal the last roof you'll buy.

Does metal roofing require roof reinforcement?

No. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile weighs just 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so it installs over most existing roofs without structural upgrades. This lightweight design eliminates the engineering and reinforcement costs that make traditional tile prohibitive for many homes. You gain the authentic appearance of premium materials without expensive structural work, and the ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation confirms installation feasibility over existing asphalt, wood, or metal roofs.

How much maintenance does an Interlock metal roof need?

Aluminum requires virtually no maintenance—no granule loss like asphalt, no rot or splitting like wood, no cracking like clay tile. Annual gutter cleaning suffices in Merrionette Park's 1042 mm annual rainfall. The four-way interlocking design sheds debris and water efficiently, and the CALGreen-verified aluminum system eliminates the ongoing repairs that traditional roofs demand. Your main task is ensuring gutters stay clear so meltwater from approximately 120 cm of annual snow flows freely.

How is Interlock metal roofing installed, and can it go over my existing roof?

Interlock panels install quickly using a specialized interlocking system—no traditional nailing of every shingle. Four-way interlocking means each panel locks to its neighbors mechanically, reducing installation time. Yes, the lightweight aluminum (Shingle at 0.41 lb/sq ft, Shake at 0.58) installs directly over most existing roofs per ICC-ES ESR-1790, eliminating costly tear-off labor and landfill disposal. Our local installer, serving the region since 2001, handles roof prep, flashing, and fastening to code—typically completing residential jobs faster than asphalt installation.

Is metal roofing environmentally better than asphalt?

Aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable; at end-of-life, your roof enters the recycling stream, not the landfill. Asphalt shingles, by contrast, generate roughly 11 million tons of landfill waste annually across North America. Interlock eliminates the tear-off cycle—you install once, not 2–3 times over 50 years—so you avoid repeated demolition, hauling, and replacement. The aluminum alloy (ASTM B209 3105-H24) is responsibly sourced and manufactured in Delta, BC, reducing transportation emissions compared to distant suppliers.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Merrionette Park’s climate?

Yes. Merrionette Park averages about 68 cm of snow, 1042 mm of rain, roughly 70 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 93 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
