Review: November 30, 2023Completion: October 31, 2023

This project has been a roller coaster: First they were doing a good job, then not, then they assured us of the results and things looked good until we questioned something and they completely dropped the ball. They took our money and never followed up. Communication by Allen Gessell seems to be the weak link. He was horrible and ghosted us. It is a HUGE SHAME that what could have been a wonderful situation has become a fearful nightmare!

Review: November 12, 2018

If he gave me a business card, I don't know what happened to it. It's usually attached to a brochure. Because I always follow up with a note to thank the person who took the time to do business with us. I could not do that because I didn't have anything. So much disconnection, which is bad.

Review: December 16, 2022Completion: November 28, 2022

It took a really, really long time. It took over five months, but once they finished the roof, they did a good job. Interlock Roofing could improve the scheduling and the communication of when the project would be done. The contractors were awesome.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Hometown

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Hometown, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Hometown.

Will a metal roof handle Hometown's freeze-thaw cycles without cracking or warping?

Yes—aluminum's crystalline structure actually strengthens it in freeze-thaw conditions. Cook County experiences roughly 70 freeze-thaw days per year, and Interlock's 3105-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) expands and contracts uniformly without the micro-cracking that affects asphalt, wood, and concrete. The four-way interlocking design allows controlled movement, and the self-healing oxide layer protects against corrosion during wet freeze cycles. This material has performed reliably from coastal salt-air climates to Antarctic research stations.

How does a metal roof perform with Hometown's annual snowfall and ice dam formation?

Interlock's smooth, non-porous surface sheds the area's average 68 cm of snow efficiently, reducing ice dam risk compared to asphalt's rough texture that traps moisture. The interlocking panel design provides structural strength even under heavy wet snow loads without requiring additional framing reinforcement. Snow guards are available if you want to control avalanche-style shedding. The lightweight construction—the Slate profile at just 0.41 lb/sq ft—eliminates the structural concerns that plague heavier traditional materials in snow-prone regions.

Can aluminum metal roofing rust in a wet climate like Hometown's?

Aluminum is naturally rust-proof because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes into rust. Instead, aluminum develops a transparent, self-healing oxide layer that re-forms when scratched, even in Cook County's wet climate with about 1042 mm annual rainfall. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating (applied to both sides) provides an additional 30-year warranty against chalking and fading. Steel roofing requires paint maintenance and degrades; Interlock's aluminum simply cannot rust, making it ideal for regions with consistent moisture.

Are metal roof panels secure enough for Hometown's wind gusts and storms?

Interlock's four-way interlocking panel design is engineered to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph, well above Hometown's typical gusts near 93 km/h. The mechanical interlocks (not fasteners alone) transfer lateral wind loads across the entire roof plane, preventing edge lift or panel separation. ICC-ES evaluation ESR-1790 certifies the system for wind resistance in residential construction. Combined with proper installation to specification, this design has maintained structural integrity from coastal gale environments to inland storm regions.

What hail protection does a metal roof offer, and could it lower insurance premiums?

Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Cook County's severe weather risk makes this rating significant. Many insurers recognize non-combustible, impact-resistant metal roofing and offer premium discounts; contact your agent with the UL 2218 Class 4 certification and ESR-1790 documentation. Unlike asphalt shingles that dent and degrade under hail, aluminum's resilience often qualifies it for favorable underwriting.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost over the life of the roof?

Metal roofing costs more initially but eliminates the tear-off-and-replace cycle asphalt requires every 15-25 years. The Guardian Warranty is lifetime limited and non-prorated for the original owner, plus one-time transferable to the next owner for 50 years from completion—meaning you install once and avoid multiple re-roofing projects. When spread across a 50-year horizon, the per-year cost is lower than two or three asphalt replacements. Energy savings from energy-efficient colors (up to 0.55 initial solar reflectance) further reduce cooling costs in warmer months.

Can a metal roof look like traditional slate, shake, or tile instead of industrial standing seam?

Yes. Interlock offers five profiles: Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, and Mediterranean Tile. Each replicates the visual profile and shadow line of its namesake material while delivering aluminum's durability and lightweight performance. The Slate and Cedar Shingle profiles suit Hometown's older residential neighborhoods; Mediterranean Tile appeals to transitional and contemporary homes. Because all profiles use the same four-way interlocking aluminum construction, your aesthetic choice doesn't compromise wind (120 mph rated), hail (UL 2218 Class 4), or the 30-year coating warranty.

Can I install a metal roof over my existing roof without structural reinforcement?

Yes, especially with the Tile profile. At approximately 0.59 lb/sq ft, Interlock Mediterranean Tile is about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—meaning no rafter or truss upgrades are needed in most homes. The Shake and Shingle profiles are even lighter. This light weight lets you avoid costly structural work and often install directly over existing asphalt shingles, reducing labor and landfill impact. Confirm your existing roof condition with an installer, but aluminum's feather-light construction eliminates the structural barriers that rule out traditional tile in many Hometown homes.

How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood shake?

Metal roofing requires minimal maintenance. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating resists algae and mold growth—factors that plague asphalt and wood in wet climates receiving 1042 mm of annual rainfall. Asphalt requires regular inspection for deterioration, wood shake invites rot and insect damage, and both need reactive repairs. Interlock's aluminum doesn't split, curl, or degrade under UV exposure; most owners simply clean gutters and inspect flashings annually. CALGreen verification acknowledges the reduced maintenance profile compared to traditional materials.

Is there an experienced metal roofing installer serving Hometown?

Yes. Interlock Metal Roofing has served this region since 2001, specializing in proper installation of the four-way interlocking panel system across Cook County. Local installers understand Hometown's freeze-thaw conditions (about 70 annual cycles), typical wind patterns near 25 km/h with gusts to 93 km/h, and the drainage requirements for roughly 1042 mm of annual rain. Proper installation ensures your warranty coverage, wind resistance (120 mph rated), and leak protection. Ask about site assessment and timeline before committing.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Hometown’s climate?

Yes. Hometown averages about 68 cm of snow, 1042 mm of rain, roughly 70 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 93 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
