Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Auburn Gresham, Illinois
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |

What our customers are saying:
We had our roofed replaced by Interlock Roofing in 2016. One of the best decisions we’ve ever made! Our roof looks like slate shingles but is entirely metal. We e received many compliments on it over the years Recently we had a lot of strong wind and hailstorms and our representative, John Mondeshean, checked in with us to see if we sustained any roof damage. He came out and inspected our roof for us within a day or two. Luckily we didn’t have any damage. I’ve been impressed by this company and their product from day one. John is the consummate professional. Our roof is now 10 years old and I still say it was the best investment! Highly recommend!
Very heavy investment, but worth every cent! I worked with John and he was very mindful in planning everything out- especially the finer details of what was needed for the house and for the project. His crew was spectacular in their workmanship and friendliness. The only minor issue I had was the scheduling of the project- which is of nobody's fault. Things get done when they get done and those who are waiting, will be happy they waited. Not exaggerating, many customers will be quite pleased with the end result. I'm one of them. Many thanks, John, crew & Interlock!
Not only was the sales process easy, the installation guys were very respectful of my neighbors and my comfort while they were working. Now that it’s done I absolutely love the roof. It’s already made a huge difference in my electric use for cooling the house!
We are so proud of our new roof. It is so cool looking, it adds a great deal to the curb-appeal of our house. I also appreciate the security of knowing I'll never have to replace it or worry about it in even the strongest winds. I used to lose shingles in strong windstorms. Interlock was easy to work with. The workers were very respectful of my property and were meticulous about clean up after.
This project has been a roller coaster: First they were doing a good job, then not, then they assured us of the results and things looked good until we questioned something and they completely dropped the ball. They took our money and never followed up. Communication by Allen Gessell seems to be the weak link. He was horrible and ghosted us. It is a HUGE SHAME that what could have been a wonderful situation has become a fearful nightmare!
I'm really excited and pleased with the roof. I love everything about it in terms of color, style, and installation. Everything was done to our utmost satisfaction. Interlock Roofing could have improved the price. The price was expensive. It was a fantastic experience.
Scheduling
I think Interlock Roofing could have improved on the timing and having more flexibility in terms of when the project starts.
Communication on delivery and actual start time
The entire team (from sales to installation) was very clear regarding the timeline and next steps for the entire project. The end product looks great and is a vast improvement compared to the appearance of our prior roof. Good clear communication. No issues on my end.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Auburn Gresham
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Auburn Gresham, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Auburn Gresham.
Why does freeze-thaw cycling matter for roofing in Auburn Gresham, and how does metal handle it?
Auburn Gresham experiences roughly 70 freeze-thaw cycles annually, which causes asphalt shingles to crack and wood shakes to split as they expand and contract with temperature swings. Aluminum roofing avoids this damage entirely because 3105-H24 aluminum alloy has no moisture absorption and expands uniformly across the entire panel. The four-way interlocking system also accommodates minor thermal movement without stressing fasteners or seams, keeping your roof intact through decades of Midwest winters.
How much snow does Auburn Gresham get, and does a metal roof handle snow load and ice dams?
The region receives about 68 centimeters of snow annually, plus frequent freeze-thaw events that breed ice dams on traditional roofing. Metal's smooth, hard surface sheds snow and ice far more effectively than asphalt, reducing dam buildup. The lightweight design—the Slate profile weighs just 0.41 lb/sq ft—means snow load is never a structural concern, and the panels install over existing roofs without reinforcement. Optional snow guards can be added for controlled release if desired.
What wind speeds should a roof withstand in this area, and how does Interlock compare?
Cook County experiences typical daily-maximum winds around 25 km/h with gusts reaching 93 km/h, plus the occasional severe storm. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification—well above local extremes. The interlocking geometry distributes wind load across the entire roof panel network rather than concentrating stress on individual fasteners, giving you proven protection in unpredictable Midwest weather.
Auburn Gresham averages over 1000 mm of rain per year—how does metal roofing handle heavy rainfall?
The region receives roughly 1042 mm of annual rainfall, and metal roofing sheds water faster and more completely than asphalt or wood. Interlock panels are designed with dual-slope profiles and interlocking seams that guide water downward without pooling or seeping into fastener holes. When installed over solid decking and underlayment per ESR-1790 specifications, the roof functions identically to asphalt in rain protection—meaning no leaks, no saturation, and no rot in the 70 years an aluminum roof typically lasts.
Is metal roofing prone to rust, especially in a humid Midwest climate?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron; instead, it develops a thin oxide layer that self-heals when scratched, protecting the metal underneath. Interlock adds a 30-year-warranted Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish on both panel sides, further blocking corrosion and UV damage. This dual defense means your roof resists the humid conditions and freeze-thaw moisture cycles that degrade steel and corrode fasteners on traditional metal roofs—a crucial advantage over 70 freeze-thaw days per year.
Can my existing roof structure support a metal roof, or do I need expensive reinforcement?
No reinforcement is needed. Interlock's aluminum panels are extraordinarily light—the Mediterranean Tile profile weighs just 0.59 lb/sq ft, making it about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Most homes built to support asphalt shingles easily carry metal roofing, and Interlock installs directly over your existing roof without structural modification. This eliminates tens of thousands of dollars in tear-off and framing costs while reducing landfill waste from old shingles.
Does hail damage roofing in Illinois, and what protection does metal offer?
Spring storms bring hail risk across Illinois, and metal's hardness is your advantage. Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty explicitly covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Many insurers recognize this durability and offer premium discounts for metal roofing. The aluminum alloy's ability to absorb impact without cracking or losing structural integrity means one hail event won't necessitate a roof replacement.
Is a metal roof worth the higher upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?
Metal roofing costs more upfront than asphalt but typically outlasts it by 50+ years. Over a 70-year lifespan, the math favors metal: you buy asphalt four times (each roof 15–20 years), incurring labor, tear-off, and disposal costs four times. Interlock's one-time installation, non-prorated lifetime limited warranty for the original owner, and 50-year transferable term for the next owner mean your metal roof is genuinely the last roof you'll need to buy. When amortized across its life, the cost per year drops well below asphalt's total burden.
What warranty comes with an Interlock metal roof, and how long will it really last?
The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner, covering rust, rot, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It's also transferable once—the next owner receives 50 years of warranty coverage from completion. This is unique in roofing: most competitors offer limited terms that degrade over time. Interlock roofs installed and maintained correctly often function beyond 70 years, making the warranty a genuine safety net, not a marketing claim.
How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or cedar shake?
Metal requires virtually no maintenance—no algae treatment, no shingle replacement, no wood staining or sealing. Asphalt shingles degrade under Auburn Gresham's 3025 annual sunshine hours and 70 freeze-thaw cycles, requiring inspection and repair every few years. Cedar shake requires costly re-staining every 5–10 years and splits in freeze-thaw weather. Interlock's Alunar coating is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading, and the aluminum alloy resists the region's humidity and temperature swings without degradation. One gutter cleaning per year is all you need.
