Review: April 12, 2026Completion: May 30, 2016

We had our roofed replaced by Interlock Roofing in 2016. One of the best decisions we’ve ever made! Our roof looks like slate shingles but is entirely metal. We e received many compliments on it over the years Recently we had a lot of strong wind and hailstorms and our representative, John Mondeshean, checked in with us to see if we sustained any roof damage. He came out and inspected our roof for us within a day or two. Luckily we didn’t have any damage. I’ve been impressed by this company and their product from day one. John is the consummate professional. Our roof is now 10 years old and I still say it was the best investment! Highly recommend!

Review: April 3, 2025Completion: July 31, 2024

Very heavy investment, but worth every cent! I worked with John and he was very mindful in planning everything out- especially the finer details of what was needed for the house and for the project. His crew was spectacular in their workmanship and friendliness. The only minor issue I had was the scheduling of the project- which is of nobody's fault. Things get done when they get done and those who are waiting, will be happy they waited. Not exaggerating, many customers will be quite pleased with the end result. I'm one of them. Many thanks, John, crew & Interlock!

Not only was the sales process easy, the installation guys were very respectful of my neighbors and my comfort while they were working. Now that it’s done I absolutely love the roof. It’s already made a huge difference in my electric use for cooling the house!

Review: May 8, 2024Completion: April 29, 2024

We are so proud of our new roof. It is so cool looking, it adds a great deal to the curb-appeal of our house. I also appreciate the security of knowing I'll never have to replace it or worry about it in even the strongest winds. I used to lose shingles in strong windstorms. Interlock was easy to work with. The workers were very respectful of my property and were meticulous about clean up after.

Review: November 30, 2023Completion: October 31, 2023

This project has been a roller coaster: First they were doing a good job, then not, then they assured us of the results and things looked good until we questioned something and they completely dropped the ball. They took our money and never followed up. Communication by Allen Gessell seems to be the weak link. He was horrible and ghosted us. It is a HUGE SHAME that what could have been a wonderful situation has become a fearful nightmare!

I'm really excited and pleased with the roof. I love everything about it in terms of color, style, and installation. Everything was done to our utmost satisfaction. Interlock Roofing could have improved the price. The price was expensive. It was a fantastic experience.

The entire team (from sales to installation) was very clear regarding the timeline and next steps for the entire project. The end product looks great and is a vast improvement compared to the appearance of our prior roof. Good clear communication. No issues on my end.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in West Englewood

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in West Englewood, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in West Englewood.

How does metal roofing handle West Englewood's heavy snow and freeze-thaw cycles?

Interlock's aluminum panels shed snow reliably because they're smooth and non-porous, and their four-way interlocking seams prevent water from backing up during the about 73 cm of snow West Englewood receives annually. The material itself thrives in freeze-thaw stress: aluminum expands and contracts predictably, and unlike asphalt shingles that crack after about 69 freeze-thaw cycles per year, Alunar-coated aluminum shows no brittleness or splitting. You can add snow guards to match your roof style without compromising the interlocking system.

Why won't my metal roof rust in the Midwest?

Your roof is made from 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 roofing-grade aluminum alloy—aluminum contains no iron, so chemical rusting is impossible. Instead, aluminum naturally forms a protective oxide layer that self-heals when scratched. Cook County's 1024 mm annual rainfall and occasional salt-laden air from the Great Lakes region won't corrode it. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish, applied to both sides and warranted 30 years against degradation, adds another barrier—a detail especially valuable in wet climates like yours.

Will freeze-thaw damage my metal roof over time?

No. West Englewood experiences roughly 69 freeze-thaw days per year, a condition that fractures asphalt shingles, wood shakes, and concrete tile through repeated expansion and contraction. Aluminum moves differently: it expands and contracts uniformly without becoming brittle, and its oxide layer doesn't crack. The panels' lightweight design (the Shake profile weighs only 0.58 lb/sq ft) means less structural stress from thermal cycling. Interlock Metal Roofing has been installing these systems since 2001 across North America's harshest climates without freeze-thaw failures.

Can my existing roof structure support metal roofing, or do I need reinforcement?

Most homes need no structural work. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile, which replicates heavy clay or concrete tile, weighs just 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than the real thing. Even older roof frames built to support asphalt shingles easily carry Interlock panels. In fact, you can install Interlock directly over your existing roof without tear-off, saving labor and keeping old shingles out of Cook County landfills. The ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 (2025 reissue) confirms code compliance across residential applications without reinforcement.

How will my metal roof handle Chicago-area wind gusts?

West Englewood typically sees daily-max winds around 25 km/h with gusts up to 95 km/h. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification, giving you a 28-km/h safety margin above typical gusts. The interlocking seams distribute wind load across the entire roof system rather than concentrating stress at fasteners. With 3094 sunshine hours annually, you'll also enjoy years of exposure without the wind-driven rain penetration that bypasses asphalt seams.

Is metal roofing really hail-proof, and could it lower my insurance premium?

Interlock holds the highest available hail rating: UL 2218 Class 4, tested against 1.75-inch ice balls dropped from 20 feet. The warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Many insurers recognize this durability and offer premium reductions—contact your agent with the UL rating and warranty details. Unlike asphalt shingles that develop leaks after moderate hail, your Interlock roof will remain impact-resistant for decades, protecting the 1024 mm of annual rainfall from turning into interior damage claims.

What warranty comes with an Interlock metal roof, and how long will it actually last?

The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for you as the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It's transferable: the next owner receives 50 years from completion. Real-world durability spans decades—Interlock has been manufacturing these panels since 1998 in Delta, BC, and they're installed from coastal salt-air homes to an Antarctic research station. This is the only roof you'll need to buy; asphalt requires replacement every 15–25 years.

Is metal roofing worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?

Compare the full 50-year lifecycle. Asphalt costs less initially but requires replacement 2–3 times, with tear-off labor and disposal fees each time. Interlock costs more upfront but lasts your lifetime (and transfers 50 years to the buyer), eliminates re-roofing, and avoids landfill dumping. Your Alunar coating is warranted 30 years against fading and chalking, meaning no early aesthetic decline. Factor in no hail claims, potential insurance discounts from the UL 2218 Class 4 rating, and energy savings from energy-efficient colors that reflect heat during West Englewood's 3094 annual sunshine hours.

Will a metal roof help cool my home in summer?

energy-efficient Interlock colors achieve initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, meaning they reflect more sunlight than asphalt and radiate absorbed heat efficiently. West Englewood averages 3094 sunshine hours per year—enough for reflective coatings to meaningfully reduce cooling load. Cool Roof Rating Council certifications back these values. While winter heating dominates in Cook County (mean 10.5°C), summer cooling costs still drop compared to dark asphalt, and the reflective property slows thermal aging of your roof itself, protecting your 30-year Alunar warranty.

How is an Interlock metal roof installed, and can you put it over my old shingles?

Yes, Interlock installs directly over existing asphalt, eliminating tear-off labor and cost. The installer attaches a solid deck and underlayment to your existing framing, then fastens the interlocking panels, starting at the eave. Installation typically takes days rather than weeks. Because aluminum panels weigh only 0.41–0.59 lb/sq ft (compared to 2–3 lb/sq ft for asphalt), structural loads are minimal. The ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation confirms this method meets IBC/IRC codes. Interlock Metal Roofing has been performing these installations locally since 2001, so your crew understands West Englewood's climate and building practices.

Is a metal roof a good choice for West Englewood’s climate?

Yes. West Englewood averages about 73 cm of snow, 1024 mm of rain, roughly 69 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 95 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
