Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for McKinley Park, Illinois
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
We had our roofed replaced by Interlock Roofing in 2016. One of the best decisions we’ve ever made! Our roof looks like slate shingles but is entirely metal. We e received many compliments on it over the years Recently we had a lot of strong wind and hailstorms and our representative, John Mondeshean, checked in with us to see if we sustained any roof damage. He came out and inspected our roof for us within a day or two. Luckily we didn’t have any damage. I’ve been impressed by this company and their product from day one. John is the consummate professional. Our roof is now 10 years old and I still say it was the best investment! Highly recommend!
Very heavy investment, but worth every cent! I worked with John and he was very mindful in planning everything out- especially the finer details of what was needed for the house and for the project. His crew was spectacular in their workmanship and friendliness. The only minor issue I had was the scheduling of the project- which is of nobody's fault. Things get done when they get done and those who are waiting, will be happy they waited. Not exaggerating, many customers will be quite pleased with the end result. I'm one of them. Many thanks, John, crew & Interlock!
Not only was the sales process easy, the installation guys were very respectful of my neighbors and my comfort while they were working. Now that it’s done I absolutely love the roof. It’s already made a huge difference in my electric use for cooling the house!
We are so proud of our new roof. It is so cool looking, it adds a great deal to the curb-appeal of our house. I also appreciate the security of knowing I'll never have to replace it or worry about it in even the strongest winds. I used to lose shingles in strong windstorms. Interlock was easy to work with. The workers were very respectful of my property and were meticulous about clean up after.
This project has been a roller coaster: First they were doing a good job, then not, then they assured us of the results and things looked good until we questioned something and they completely dropped the ball. They took our money and never followed up. Communication by Allen Gessell seems to be the weak link. He was horrible and ghosted us. It is a HUGE SHAME that what could have been a wonderful situation has become a fearful nightmare!
I'm really excited and pleased with the roof. I love everything about it in terms of color, style, and installation. Everything was done to our utmost satisfaction. Interlock Roofing could have improved the price. The price was expensive. It was a fantastic experience.
Scheduling
I think Interlock Roofing could have improved on the timing and having more flexibility in terms of when the project starts.
Communication on delivery and actual start time
The entire team (from sales to installation) was very clear regarding the timeline and next steps for the entire project. The end product looks great and is a vast improvement compared to the appearance of our prior roof. Good clear communication. No issues on my end.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in McKinley Park
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in McKinley Park, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in McKinley Park.
Does metal roofing handle heavy snow loads in McKinley Park winters?
Yes—Interlock's aluminum panels weigh as little as 0.41 lb/sq ft, so snow and ice accumulation won't strain your home's structure even during McKinley Park's average 73 cm annual snowfall. The four-way interlocking design sheds water and prevents ice damming by eliminating seams where meltwater pools. With optional snow guards installed to match your profile choice, snow releases gradually rather than cascading. Light weight means no costly structural reinforcement—you install directly over most existing roofs.
How does aluminum roofing hold up to freeze-thaw cycling?
Aluminum is inherently immune to freeze-thaw damage that cracks asphalt, wood, and clay tile. McKinley Park experiences about 69 freeze-thaw days per year, and aluminum's oxide coating self-heals when scratched, preventing the corrosion cycle that degrades other metals. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish (warranted 30 years against chalking and fading per ASTM D4214) resists temperature swings from well below freezing to seasonal highs without brittling or crazing.
Will metal roofing blow off in Cook County wind gusts?
No. McKinley Park's typical gusts reach 95 km/h, and Interlock panels are warranted to resist winds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. The four-way interlocking seams lock each panel to its neighbors, distributing wind load across the entire roof plane rather than relying on fasteners alone. ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation confirms code compliance for high-wind applications, and the Guardian Warranty covers wind damage when installation follows Interlock's documented procedures.
Does a metal roof leak in heavy rain?
No—McKinley Park receives about 1024 mm of annual rainfall, and the four-way interlocking panels are engineered to shed water by design. Each panel overlaps its neighbors on all four edges, so water runs down the profile and off the roof; no water enters the seams. Combined with a solid deck and underlayment (installed beneath the panels, not the panels themselves), Interlock roofs remain watertight under the heaviest rain events, matching asphalt reliability without asphalt's vulnerability to UV and temperature cycling.
Can an aluminum roof rust like steel roofing does?
No—aluminum roofing cannot rust because roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) contains zero iron, the element required for rust formation. When exposed to air, aluminum naturally forms a thin oxide layer that protects the base metal; when the coating scratches, that oxide layer self-heals. This is why Interlock panels have been installed since 1998 in everything from coastal salt-air homes to Antarctic research stations. Steel, by contrast, requires ongoing paint maintenance to prevent rust.
Is metal roofing hail-resistant, and will my insurance notice?
Yes—Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating (the highest available), with the Guardian Warranty covering perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Many homeowners in hail-prone regions see insurance discounts or premium reductions after installing a Class 4-rated roof. McKinley Park's climate includes occasional severe weather, so this impact rating protects both your roof and your wallet. Check with your carrier about available discounts—several major insurers recognize the durability advantage of rated metal roofing.
Is metal roofing worth the cost compared to asphalt shingles?
Metal roofing costs more upfront than asphalt, but Interlock is the last roof you'll buy. A typical asphalt shingle roof lasts 15–20 years and requires replacement, costing your family $8,000–$12,000 multiple times over a 50-year span. The Guardian Warranty covers Interlock's lifetime for the first owner and is one-time transferable for 50 years from completion—no prorated deductions. Factor in zero maintenance (vs. asphalt's routine repairs), no tear-offs to landfill, and 30-year coating durability, and the cost-per-year drops below asphalt by the 25-year mark.
What does metal roofing look like—does it come in slate or tile profiles?
Interlock offers five profiles: Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, and Mediterranean Tile. Each replicates traditional materials' visual depth and texture without the weight penalties. The Mediterranean Tile, for example, is roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile, yet delivers the architectural character. Slate and Cedar Shingle profiles suit classic homes, while Shake appeals to cottage or craftsman styles. Standing Seam suits contemporary designs. All profiles feature the same aluminum durability and interlocking engineering—you choose the look that matches your home's character.
How much maintenance does a metal roof need in McKinley Park?
Essentially none—that's the value proposition. Asphalt requires seasonal inspection, algae treatment, and fastener replacement. Wood shake demands annual sealing or staining. Tile cracks and loosens in freeze-thaw cycles like McKinley Park's 69 annual freeze-thaw days. Aluminum doesn't crack, curl, split, or rot—the Guardian Warranty covers all five failure modes. Rinse debris after severe weather if you like; that's optional. The Alunar coating (70% PVDF, 30-year warranty against fading) needs no repainting. CALGreen verification confirms Interlock's reduced maintenance profile, freeing your budget for other priorities.
Who installs Interlock metal roofing in McKinley Park?
Interlock Metal Roofing has served this region since 2001, bringing over two decades of experience with Cook County's freeze-thaw, snow, and wind conditions. Local installation means faster scheduling, faster service calls if needed, and a contractor familiar with your home's structural details and local code inspectors. You're working with the manufacturer's authorized installer, not a general contractor subcontracting the work. That direct relationship with Interlock ensures your roof meets ESR-1790 specs, qualifies for the full Guardian Warranty, and performs as designed in McKinley Park's climate.
