What our customers are saying:
We had our roofed replaced by Interlock Roofing in 2016. One of the best decisions we’ve ever made! Our roof looks like slate shingles but is entirely metal. We e received many compliments on it over the years Recently we had a lot of strong wind and hailstorms and our representative, John Mondeshean, checked in with us to see if we sustained any roof damage. He came out and inspected our roof for us within a day or two. Luckily we didn’t have any damage. I’ve been impressed by this company and their product from day one. John is the consummate professional. Our roof is now 10 years old and I still say it was the best investment! Highly recommend!
Very heavy investment, but worth every cent! I worked with John and he was very mindful in planning everything out- especially the finer details of what was needed for the house and for the project. His crew was spectacular in their workmanship and friendliness. The only minor issue I had was the scheduling of the project- which is of nobody's fault. Things get done when they get done and those who are waiting, will be happy they waited. Not exaggerating, many customers will be quite pleased with the end result. I'm one of them. Many thanks, John, crew & Interlock!
Not only was the sales process easy, the installation guys were very respectful of my neighbors and my comfort while they were working. Now that it’s done I absolutely love the roof. It’s already made a huge difference in my electric use for cooling the house!
We are so proud of our new roof. It is so cool looking, it adds a great deal to the curb-appeal of our house. I also appreciate the security of knowing I'll never have to replace it or worry about it in even the strongest winds. I used to lose shingles in strong windstorms. Interlock was easy to work with. The workers were very respectful of my property and were meticulous about clean up after.
This project has been a roller coaster: First they were doing a good job, then not, then they assured us of the results and things looked good until we questioned something and they completely dropped the ball. They took our money and never followed up. Communication by Allen Gessell seems to be the weak link. He was horrible and ghosted us. It is a HUGE SHAME that what could have been a wonderful situation has become a fearful nightmare!
I'm really excited and pleased with the roof. I love everything about it in terms of color, style, and installation. Everything was done to our utmost satisfaction. Interlock Roofing could have improved the price. The price was expensive. It was a fantastic experience.
Scheduling
I think Interlock Roofing could have improved on the timing and having more flexibility in terms of when the project starts.
Communication on delivery and actual start time
The entire team (from sales to installation) was very clear regarding the timeline and next steps for the entire project. The end product looks great and is a vast improvement compared to the appearance of our prior roof. Good clear communication. No issues on my end.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Chinatown
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Chinatown, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Chinatown.
Will a metal roof handle Chicago's freeze-thaw cycles without cracking or buckling?
Aluminum expands and contracts smoothly through freeze-thaw cycling without cracking or splitting — the four-way interlocking system accommodates movement while staying watertight. Cook County experiences roughly 69 freeze-thaw days per year, and the 3105-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) is engineered to flex through these stresses. Unlike slate or concrete tile, which can fracture when water trapped in pores freezes, aluminum's non-porous surface sheds moisture immediately. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating warranted for 30 years also prevents water infiltration that causes internal damage in other materials.
How does an Interlock metal roof perform under Chinatown's annual snow load?
The roof sheds snow efficiently because its smooth, interlocking aluminum surface doesn't trap moisture the way asphalt or wood does. Chinatown receives about 73 cm of snow annually, and the lightweight design means no structural reinforcement is needed to support snow accumulation — the roof installs over most existing structures without expensive framing upgrades. The Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, and Mediterranean Tile profiles all include optional snow guards at the eave to control release. Aluminum's thermal properties also reduce ice-dam formation: the 0.84 emissivity rating helps shed accumulated heat, minimizing the melt-and-refreeze cycle that builds dangerous dams on traditional roofs.
Can a metal roof handle hail, and will my insurance company care?
Interlock holds a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating — the highest available — and the Guardian warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This rating means the roof has absorbed impacts that destroy asphalt and shingles, so some insurers offer discounts on metal roofs. The non-combustible aluminum construction (Class A fire-rated option available) also lowers risk in the eyes of underwriters. Chicago's wind-driven severe weather patterns make impact resistance genuinely meaningful; Cook County gusts average 25 km/h but regularly exceed 95 km/h in storms. Submit the UL 2218 Class 4 certificate to your insurer when you finish installation — many homeowners see their premiums reflect the durability gain.
Will my metal roof blow off in a strong wind?
The four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification — far exceeding the gusts to 95 km/h typical in Cook County. Each panel locks to its four neighbors (top, bottom, left, right), creating a unified structure rather than individual shingles that can lift. The ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 (reissued 2025) confirms compliance with wind-load requirements in the International Building Code and IRC. In practice, homeowners in coastal British Columbia, where the product has been manufactured since 1998, have seen roofs survive hurricane-force winds because the interlocking geometry and fastening system distribute stress across the entire surface rather than concentrating it at isolated points.
Do I need to reinforce my roof frame for a metal roof?
No structural reinforcement is needed because Interlock aluminum is extraordinarily light. The Mediterranean Tile profile, which replicates the heaviest traditional roofing material, installs at approximately 0.59 lb/sq ft — roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. The Cedar Shingle weighs about 0.41 lb/sq ft, making it lighter than most asphalt shingle systems. This weight advantage means the roof installs directly over most existing structures and can often go over an old roof without tear-off, saving thousands in labor and landfill fees. For homeowners in Chinatown with older homes built on modest foundations, the elimination of expensive reinforcement is a genuine savings that compounds over the roof's 50-plus-year lifespan.
How much upkeep does a metal roof actually need?
Metal roofs require virtually no maintenance — no algae treatment, no shingle replacement, no gutter debris management from decomposing asphalt or wood. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating resists chalking and fading for 30 years (ASTM D4214 and D2244 measured), and the aluminum substrate will not rot, curl, crack, or split. Chinatown's approximately 3,094 sunshine hours per year and regular rain mean debris naturally washes off the sloped surface. Asphalt and wood shake roofs demand regular inspection, patching, and eventual replacement; this roof eliminates that cycle. The Guardian warranty covers splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance across the original owner's lifetime, removing the guesswork about when to call for repairs.
Will a metal roof help lower my cooling costs?
energy-efficient Interlock colors reflect significant solar heat rather than absorbing it the way asphalt does. The Aged Copper Penny finish achieves initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, meaning the roof stays cooler under the sun and releases absorbed heat efficiently at night. Chinatown's climate averages 10.5°C annually with roughly 3,094 sunshine hours, so cooling is a secondary load; the real benefit is eliminating the heat spike during warmer months and reducing air-conditioning runtime on clear days. The Cool Roof Rating Council verification confirms these reflectance properties persist through weathering. Over decades, this steady reduction in cooling demand compounds into genuine savings, while the non-prorated lifetime warranty guarantees the coating stays effective.
Is metal roofing worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?
Metal roofing costs more initially but becomes the last roof you buy, while asphalt requires replacement every 15–25 years. The Guardian's lifetime limited warranty (non-prorated for the original owner and one-time transferable for 50 years to the next owner) protects your investment across decades. Over a 50-year horizon, the cost-per-year of a permanent metal roof is substantially lower than repeating asphalt tear-off, disposal fees, and reinstallation cycles. Chinatown's 1,024 mm annual rainfall and 73 cm snow expose asphalt's vulnerabilities faster: weathering, granule loss, and leak-prone valleys accelerate in wet climates. The ICC-ES ESR-1790 compliance and CALGreen verification for reduced maintenance further validate the value: fewer repairs, no gutting, no landfill hauling, and a roof that still protects your home and transfers equity to the next owner.
Who installs Interlock metal roofing in Chinatown, and how long have they been doing this?
Interlock Metal Roofing has served the Cook County region since 2001, bringing over two decades of experience to Chinatown installations. The company manufactures its product in Delta, British Columbia, where it has refined the four-way interlocking panel system and Alunar 70% PVDF coating application since 1998. Local expertise matters: the installation team understands Chinatown's freeze-thaw cycles (roughly 69 days per year), the mix of older and newer homes, and the building codes (ICC-ES ESR-1790 compliance). They can advise whether your home qualifies for over-roof installation, coordinate with existing contractors, and stand behind the 50-year transferable warranty. Contact the local office for an on-site assessment and timeline — most installations complete faster than asphalt tear-off-and-replace because no demolition is required.
Is metal roofing better for the environment than asphalt shingles?
Interlock aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable and ends the asphalt tear-off-to-landfill cycle entirely. Each replacement cycle of a traditional asphalt roof generates tons of waste bound for landfill, while aluminum panels retain scrap value and are accepted by every major recycling stream. Over a 50-year lifespan, a single metal roof avoids the environmental cost of multiple asphalt replacements. The non-prorated lifetime warranty eliminates premature disposal: you are not replacing the roof at year 20 or 30 because it still performs. Chinatown's approximately 1,024 mm annual rainfall and humid climate accelerate asphalt degradation, making metal's permanence especially valuable. The product is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance impact, and the lightweight aluminum design (roughly 96% lighter than clay or concrete tile) reduces the carbon footprint of installation itself compared to heavier traditional materials.
