Review: April 12, 2026Completion: May 30, 2016

We had our roofed replaced by Interlock Roofing in 2016. One of the best decisions we’ve ever made! Our roof looks like slate shingles but is entirely metal. We e received many compliments on it over the years Recently we had a lot of strong wind and hailstorms and our representative, John Mondeshean, checked in with us to see if we sustained any roof damage. He came out and inspected our roof for us within a day or two. Luckily we didn’t have any damage. I’ve been impressed by this company and their product from day one. John is the consummate professional. Our roof is now 10 years old and I still say it was the best investment! Highly recommend!

Review: April 3, 2025Completion: July 31, 2024

Very heavy investment, but worth every cent! I worked with John and he was very mindful in planning everything out- especially the finer details of what was needed for the house and for the project. His crew was spectacular in their workmanship and friendliness. The only minor issue I had was the scheduling of the project- which is of nobody's fault. Things get done when they get done and those who are waiting, will be happy they waited. Not exaggerating, many customers will be quite pleased with the end result. I'm one of them. Many thanks, John, crew & Interlock!

Not only was the sales process easy, the installation guys were very respectful of my neighbors and my comfort while they were working. Now that it’s done I absolutely love the roof. It’s already made a huge difference in my electric use for cooling the house!

Review: May 8, 2024Completion: April 29, 2024

We are so proud of our new roof. It is so cool looking, it adds a great deal to the curb-appeal of our house. I also appreciate the security of knowing I'll never have to replace it or worry about it in even the strongest winds. I used to lose shingles in strong windstorms. Interlock was easy to work with. The workers were very respectful of my property and were meticulous about clean up after.

Review: November 30, 2023Completion: October 31, 2023

This project has been a roller coaster: First they were doing a good job, then not, then they assured us of the results and things looked good until we questioned something and they completely dropped the ball. They took our money and never followed up. Communication by Allen Gessell seems to be the weak link. He was horrible and ghosted us. It is a HUGE SHAME that what could have been a wonderful situation has become a fearful nightmare!

I'm really excited and pleased with the roof. I love everything about it in terms of color, style, and installation. Everything was done to our utmost satisfaction. Interlock Roofing could have improved the price. The price was expensive. It was a fantastic experience.

The entire team (from sales to installation) was very clear regarding the timeline and next steps for the entire project. The end product looks great and is a vast improvement compared to the appearance of our prior roof. Good clear communication. No issues on my end.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Printer’s Row

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Printer’s Row, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Printer’s Row.

Will a metal roof handle Illinois freeze-thaw cycles better than asphalt or slate?

Yes. Aluminum's oxide layer self-heals when scratched—it cannot rust or rot, so the roughly 69 freeze-thaw days Printer's Row experiences annually won't degrade the material. Asphalt becomes brittle in repeated freezing; slate and wood crack under expansion stress. Interlock's 3105-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) and dual-sided Alunar 70% PVDF coating (30-year warranty against chalking) were proven in Antarctic research stations and are manufactured to ICC-ES ESR-1790 compliance for IBC/IRC standards, ensuring durability through Cook County's seasonal swings.

How does metal roofing perform under Printer's Row's annual snowfall?

Metal roofing sheds snow and ice efficiently because its smooth, interlocking surface prevents buildup. Printer's Row receives about 73 cm of snow annually, and that weight is manageable: the Interlock Slate profile installs at just 0.41 lb/sq ft—so light that no structural reinforcement is needed even on older homes. The panels' four-way interlocking design (UL 2218 Class 4 rated) resists wind gusts up to 95 km/h, common in Cook County winters. Snow guards are available for safety if desired.

Why should I choose aluminum roofing instead of steel in a climate with rain and snow?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. Steel will rust over time, especially with Printer's Row's 1,024 mm of annual rainfall and freeze-thaw cycling. Aluminum forms a self-healing oxide layer when scratched—it actually protects itself. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum (ASTM B209) with a Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish applied to both panel sides. This dual-coat approach was proven in salt-air coastal installations and Antarctic conditions, far harsher than Cook County weather. The Guardian Warranty covers rusting for the original owner's lifetime.

Can metal roofing withstand the wind gusts typical of Illinois winters?

Yes. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. Printer's Row's typical gusts reach 95 km/h, well below that threshold. The ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation confirms code compliance for IBC/IRC wind load requirements in Illinois. The four-way interlock prevents panel uplift and water infiltration even during severe wind events, so you're protected beyond local conditions.

Will my homeowners insurance cover hail damage, and could metal roofing lower my rates?

Interlock metal roofing carries the highest hail impact rating available: UL 2218 Class 4. The warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This non-combustible aluminum construction may qualify you for homeowners insurance discounts in Cook County because insurers recognize its durability and low replacement cost compared to traditional roofing. Unlike asphalt shingles or wood shake, metal won't split or crater under hail impact, reducing claim frequency and potentially lowering your premium.

What's the real lifespan of metal roofing, and what does the warranty cover?

Interlock's Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It's one-time transferable, giving the next owner 50 years from completion. This is the last roof you'll buy. Manufactured since 1998 in Delta, BC, and installed from coastal salt-air homes to Antarctic research stations, the product has proven 25+ year field performance. The Alunar coating itself carries a 30-year warranty against chalking and fading (ASTM D4214/D2244), so color stays true through Printer's Row's 3,094 annual sunshine hours.

Is metal roofing more expensive than asphalt, and will it pay for itself?

Initial cost is higher, but over the roof's life, metal wins. Asphalt requires tear-off and replacement every 15–20 years; metal installs over most existing roofs (no tear-off cost), lasts a lifetime, and carries zero re-roofing expense. Printer's Row's 1,024 mm annual rainfall and 69 freeze-thaw days accelerate asphalt degradation. Metal's light weight (Tile profile ~96% lighter than concrete or clay tile) means no structural reinforcement—you avoid expensive frame upgrades. The non-prorated lifetime warranty and 50-year transfer term protect resale value, making it the last structural investment you make.

How long does installation take, and do you have to tear off my old roof?

Installation timeline depends on roof size, but Interlock's lightweight panels (Slate at 0.41 lb/sq ft) are faster to install than heavy slate or tile. Critically, most existing roofs don't require tear-off—the new metal layers directly over asphalt shingles or other materials, saving labor and landfill cost. The four-way interlocking system creates a unified membrane that sheds Printer's Row's 1,024 mm annual rainfall without leaks. Interlock Metal Roofing, serving the region since 2001, can provide a timeline estimate after an on-site assessment.

Do metal roofs stay cooler in summer and reduce air conditioning costs?

Yes. Interlock's energy-efficient colors reflect heat rather than absorb it, with initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84 (Cool Roof Rating Council rated). This matters in Printer's Row, which receives about 3,094 sunshine hours annually. While summers are mild (mean 10.5°C), reflective coatings reduce cooling loads during peak season, lowering utility bills over time. Asphalt absorbs heat, raising attic and interior temperatures; metal's reflectance keeps your home cooler and reduces HVAC runtime. The energy benefit compounds year after year.

Is metal roofing more environmentally responsible than asphalt shingles?

Substantially. Interlock's aluminum is about 95% recyclable at end of life, ending the asphalt tear-off-to-landfill cycle. Installing over your existing roof (no tear-off required) avoids immediate waste. Most traditional roofing materials—asphalt, wood, slate—end up in landfills when replaced. Metal's lifetime warranty and non-prorated transfer term mean one installation serves two owners, reducing manufacturing footprint per occupancy. Interlock's ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation confirms CALGreen verification for reduced maintenance burden and material waste over the roof's service life.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Printer’s Row’s climate?

Yes. Printer’s Row averages about 73 cm of snow, 1024 mm of rain, roughly 69 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 95 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
