What our customers are saying:
We had our roofed replaced by Interlock Roofing in 2016. One of the best decisions we’ve ever made! Our roof looks like slate shingles but is entirely metal. We e received many compliments on it over the years Recently we had a lot of strong wind and hailstorms and our representative, John Mondeshean, checked in with us to see if we sustained any roof damage. He came out and inspected our roof for us within a day or two. Luckily we didn’t have any damage. I’ve been impressed by this company and their product from day one. John is the consummate professional. Our roof is now 10 years old and I still say it was the best investment! Highly recommend!
Very heavy investment, but worth every cent! I worked with John and he was very mindful in planning everything out- especially the finer details of what was needed for the house and for the project. His crew was spectacular in their workmanship and friendliness. The only minor issue I had was the scheduling of the project- which is of nobody's fault. Things get done when they get done and those who are waiting, will be happy they waited. Not exaggerating, many customers will be quite pleased with the end result. I'm one of them. Many thanks, John, crew & Interlock!
Not only was the sales process easy, the installation guys were very respectful of my neighbors and my comfort while they were working. Now that it’s done I absolutely love the roof. It’s already made a huge difference in my electric use for cooling the house!
We are so proud of our new roof. It is so cool looking, it adds a great deal to the curb-appeal of our house. I also appreciate the security of knowing I'll never have to replace it or worry about it in even the strongest winds. I used to lose shingles in strong windstorms. Interlock was easy to work with. The workers were very respectful of my property and were meticulous about clean up after.
This project has been a roller coaster: First they were doing a good job, then not, then they assured us of the results and things looked good until we questioned something and they completely dropped the ball. They took our money and never followed up. Communication by Allen Gessell seems to be the weak link. He was horrible and ghosted us. It is a HUGE SHAME that what could have been a wonderful situation has become a fearful nightmare!
I'm really excited and pleased with the roof. I love everything about it in terms of color, style, and installation. Everything was done to our utmost satisfaction. Interlock Roofing could have improved the price. The price was expensive. It was a fantastic experience.
Scheduling
I think Interlock Roofing could have improved on the timing and having more flexibility in terms of when the project starts.
Communication on delivery and actual start time
The entire team (from sales to installation) was very clear regarding the timeline and next steps for the entire project. The end product looks great and is a vast improvement compared to the appearance of our prior roof. Good clear communication. No issues on my end.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in South Loop
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in South Loop, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in South Loop.
Does metal roofing handle South Loop's 73 cm of annual snow and ice buildup?
Aluminum's extreme light weight—the Shingle profile at 0.41 lb/sq ft—eliminates snow load stress on your home's frame and allows installation over most existing roofs without structural reinforcement. The four-way interlocking panels resist wind gusts up to 95 km/h common in Chicago winters, and the warranty covers wind speeds to 120 mph. South Loop receives about 70 freeze-thaw cycles annually; aluminum oxide coating self-heals through freeze-thaw cycling, unlike asphalt, which cracks and curls under the same stress. Snow guards can be added if you prefer controlled shedding.
How does aluminum metal roofing perform in freeze-thaw climates?
Aluminum's oxide layer naturally self-heals when exposed to oxygen, a process that continues through South Loop's roughly 69 annual freeze-thaw days without degradation. Unlike asphalt or wood shakes, which crack and split under repeated expansion and contraction, roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy maintains structural integrity across temperature swings. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading, tested to ASTM D4214 standards—far outlasting single-coat systems in cold-wet climates. This material combination is why Interlock panels have performed from coastal salt-air to Antarctica since 1998.
What hail impact rating does Interlock metal roofing carry, and could it lower insurance costs?
Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4, the highest available impact rating, and the Guardian warranty explicitly covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. South Loop experiences variable severe weather; this rating means you're protected against the most extreme hail events. Many insurers offer premium reductions or discounts for Class 4-rated roofs because claims are statistically rare. Contact your agent with the UL 2218 Class 4 designation and ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation report (reissued 2025) to discuss potential savings. The combination of impact resistance and non-combustibility often qualifies for favorable underwriting.
How does a metal roof handle South Loop's heavy rainfall without leaks?
The four-way interlocking panel system creates a mechanical seal that sheds water like shingles on a slope; with about 1024 mm of annual rain, this design is proven and field-tested across wet climates worldwide. When installed over solid roof decking with underlayment—a standard specification in ESR-1790—water is directed away before reaching framing. The interlocking overlap is tight enough that wind-driven rain at 95 km/h gusts cannot force water upward. Aluminum's oxide layer does not absorb moisture, so even standing water on the roof surface does not degrade the material. Proper deck preparation and underlayment installation are your insurance against leaks.
Will an aluminum metal roof stay secure in Chicago's winter and spring wind gusts?
The four-way interlocking design warranties wind resistance to 120 mph when installed to specification; South Loop's peak gusts around 95 km/h are well within this safety margin. Interlock panels lock mechanically on all four edges, so wind cannot lift or separate them as it can asphalt shingles or poorly fastened tiles. This engineering is documented in ICC-ES ESR-1790, which verifies compliance with IBC and IRC wind load tables. The lightweight profile—Shake at 0.58 lb/sq ft—means wind pressure has minimal leverage. Installation by Interlock's local crew since 2001 ensures fastening follows specifications that hold through Chicago's seasonal storm season.
Can my South Loop home support a metal tile roof without structural upgrades?
The Interlock Mediterranean Tile profile weighs approximately 0.59 lb/sq ft, making it roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. South Loop homes built to standard residential codes can support this weight without reinforcement; most existing roofs can have Interlock installed directly over them, eliminating tear-off costs and labor. This light weight is made possible by roofing-grade aluminum alloy, not steel or composite materials. Structural engineers and building officials recognize that aluminum tile poses no additional load burden compared to asphalt shingles. The result: you get the authentic tile aesthetic without foundation or framing upgrades.
Does Interlock metal roofing need regular maintenance like asphalt or wood?
Aluminum roofing requires no granule replacement, no resealing, no wood treatment, and no moss removal—maintenance tasks that consume asphalt and shake roofs over their lifetimes. South Loop's roughly 3094 annual sunshine hours and wet winters create conditions ideal for mold and algae growth on asphalt; Interlock's oxide-coated aluminum surface discourages biological colonization. The CALGreen-verified design reduces maintenance workload and cost. Occasional visual inspection and debris clearing is advisable, but structural maintenance is minimal. This contrasts sharply with slate or tile roofs that crack and require individual replacement, or asphalt that needs recoating every 10–15 years in South Loop's climate.
Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles in South Loop?
Over a 50-year horizon, Interlock eliminates the cycle of asphalt tear-offs (every 15–20 years in wet climates) and associated labor, disposal, and reinstallation costs. The Guardian warranty is lifetime limited and non-prorated for the original owner; the transferable 50-year term for the next owner preserves resale value. South Loop's 69 annual freeze-thaw cycles and 1024 mm of rain accelerate asphalt degradation; aluminum's oxide self-healing means no premature failure in those conditions. One upfront installation cost, no roof replacements for your ownership term, and a home that retains curb appeal and structural integrity throughout—that is the value calculation. A metal roof is the last roof you buy.
Is Interlock metal roofing recycled or recyclable?
Interlock panels are approximately 95% recyclable aluminum and can be recovered and remelted indefinitely without loss of material properties. By contrast, asphalt shingles tear off every 15–20 years and go to landfill; over 50 years, a typical South Loop home generates tons of waste destined for disposal. Aluminum's infinite recycling cycle breaks that pattern. Roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 alloys meet ASTM B209 standards and maintain value in scrap markets. CALGreen verification confirms Interlock's reduced maintenance profile also means fewer chemical treatments, sealants, and interventions over the roof's life. Choosing aluminum is the environmentally responsible path: one installation, no landfill contribution, 100% material recovery when the roof eventually reaches end-of-life.
Who installs Interlock metal roofing in South Loop, and how long has the contractor been in business?
Interlock Metal Roofing has served the South Loop and Cook County region since 2001—over two decades of local installation experience and warranty support. The company manufactures panels in Delta, BC, and maintains inventory and scheduling tailored to Chicago's seasonal demands. Direct factory-to-installer relationships ensure your project receives authentic Interlock materials and installation methods documented in ICC-ES ESR-1790. Local presence means fast response for inspections, warranty claims, or future maintenance questions. When you choose a South Loop roofer, continuity of service and accountability matter; Interlock's 24-year track record in this market demonstrates both.
Is a metal roof a good choice for South Loop’s climate?
Yes. South Loop averages about 73 cm of snow, 1024 mm of rain, roughly 69 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 95 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
