Review: April 12, 2026Completion: May 30, 2016

We had our roofed replaced by Interlock Roofing in 2016. One of the best decisions we’ve ever made! Our roof looks like slate shingles but is entirely metal. We e received many compliments on it over the years Recently we had a lot of strong wind and hailstorms and our representative, John Mondeshean, checked in with us to see if we sustained any roof damage. He came out and inspected our roof for us within a day or two. Luckily we didn’t have any damage. I’ve been impressed by this company and their product from day one. John is the consummate professional. Our roof is now 10 years old and I still say it was the best investment! Highly recommend!

Review: April 3, 2025Completion: July 31, 2024

Very heavy investment, but worth every cent! I worked with John and he was very mindful in planning everything out- especially the finer details of what was needed for the house and for the project. His crew was spectacular in their workmanship and friendliness. The only minor issue I had was the scheduling of the project- which is of nobody's fault. Things get done when they get done and those who are waiting, will be happy they waited. Not exaggerating, many customers will be quite pleased with the end result. I'm one of them. Many thanks, John, crew & Interlock!

Not only was the sales process easy, the installation guys were very respectful of my neighbors and my comfort while they were working. Now that it’s done I absolutely love the roof. It’s already made a huge difference in my electric use for cooling the house!

Review: May 8, 2024Completion: April 29, 2024

We are so proud of our new roof. It is so cool looking, it adds a great deal to the curb-appeal of our house. I also appreciate the security of knowing I'll never have to replace it or worry about it in even the strongest winds. I used to lose shingles in strong windstorms. Interlock was easy to work with. The workers were very respectful of my property and were meticulous about clean up after.

Review: November 30, 2023Completion: October 31, 2023

This project has been a roller coaster: First they were doing a good job, then not, then they assured us of the results and things looked good until we questioned something and they completely dropped the ball. They took our money and never followed up. Communication by Allen Gessell seems to be the weak link. He was horrible and ghosted us. It is a HUGE SHAME that what could have been a wonderful situation has become a fearful nightmare!

I'm really excited and pleased with the roof. I love everything about it in terms of color, style, and installation. Everything was done to our utmost satisfaction. Interlock Roofing could have improved the price. The price was expensive. It was a fantastic experience.

The entire team (from sales to installation) was very clear regarding the timeline and next steps for the entire project. The end product looks great and is a vast improvement compared to the appearance of our prior roof. Good clear communication. No issues on my end.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Greektown

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Greektown, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Greektown.

Will metal roofing hold up through Greektown's freeze-thaw cycles?

Yes — aluminum actually thrives in freeze-thaw conditions. The material has no moisture absorption and expands/contracts minimally, so the roughly 69 freeze-thaw days Greektown experiences annually won't crack, curl, or split the panel. Unlike asphalt shingles, which become brittle in cold, or wood shakes, which split when water refreezes inside the grain, Interlock aluminum panels maintain their integrity season after season. The 3105-H24 alloy and PVDF coating are specifically rated for this stress cycle under ESR-1790 testing protocols.

How does metal roofing handle Greektown's annual snowfall and ice buildup?

Metal roofing sheds snow cleanly because of its smooth, hard surface — critical in a region that receives about 73 cm of snow yearly. The four-way interlocking panel system creates no exposed fasteners where ice can grip, and the low friction of the aluminum surface prevents dangerous ice dams from forming. The sloped profiles like Slate and Shake are engineered to channel meltwater off quickly. Snow guards can be installed if you want to retain snow for insulation or prevent slide-off onto walkways, giving you control asphalt cannot offer.

Is metal roofing safe in Greektown's wind gusts up to 95 km/h?

Metal roofing is safer than asphalt in high winds. Greektown's typical gusts reach 95 km/h, and Interlock's four-way interlocking panels are warranted to 120 mph (193 km/h) wind resistance when installed to spec. The mechanical interlock between panels, combined with proper fastening, creates a unified system that won't lift or blow off the way asphalt shingles do in sustained gusts. This design makes insurance claims less likely and gives you genuine peace of mind during the spring and fall windier periods.

Does Greektown's older housing stock need structural reinforcement for metal tile roofing?

No structural reinforcement is required. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft — roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile — so it installs directly over most existing roofs without adding dangerous load. Older homes in Greektown built for wood shakes or asphalt shingles can accept metal tile without engineering work or cost. The lightness also reduces stress on rafters during the 73 cm of snow Greektown receives annually, making it safer than upgrading to actual tile.

With 1024 mm of rain yearly in Greektown, will a metal roof leak?

Leaking requires water to enter the structure, and Interlock's four-way interlocking panels are designed to channel water away before it reaches seams. Each panel overlaps its neighbors on all four sides, creating a shingle-like shed pattern that funnels rainfall down and off the roof. Proper installation with solid decking and underlayment — standard practice by Interlock's local installer since 2001 — ensures water moves from panel surface to gutter system without pooling. The interlocking geometry, not coatings, provides the primary water barrier, making performance reliable in Greektown's consistent annual rainfall.

Does Interlock metal roofing qualify for hail damage coverage discounts in Illinois?

Possibly. Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating — the highest available — and the warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Some Illinois insurers offer reduced premiums for roofs with Class 4 ratings because claims are dramatically less likely. Contact your agent with the UL 2218 Class 4 specification and ICC-ES report number ESR-1790 to inquire about discounts. Even without a premium reduction, the durability means you won't face the repeated hail claims that drive up asphalt roof insurance costs over time.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt in Greektown?

Yes, calculated across the roof's life. Asphalt shingles typically need replacement every 15–20 years; in Greektown's 69 annual freeze-thaw days and roughly 25 km/h mean winds with 95 km/h gusts, degradation accelerates. Interlock carries a lifetime limited non-prorated warranty for the original owner and one-time 50-year transfer to the next owner — meaning one purchase lasts the life of your home. Factoring in zero tear-off labor, disposal costs, and reinstallation, the total cost of ownership over 50 years strongly favors metal. The Guardian Warranty also covers splitting, cracking, and curling — failures asphalt owners pay to repair repeatedly.

What does Interlock's lifetime warranty actually cover in Greektown?

The Guardian Warranty covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance — the major failure modes in harsh climates like Greektown's. It is non-prorated for the original owner (no depreciation schedule), and one-time transferable to the next owner for 50 years from completion. This means a roof installed today transfers with the house and remains covered through mid-century. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating is separately warranted 30 years against chalking and fading (ASTM D4214/D2244), protecting the panel's color through roughly 92,000 sunshine hours of Greektown's typical 3094 annual hours. Transferability adds measurable resale value.

How much upkeep does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood in Greektown?

Metal requires virtually none. Asphalt shingles need inspections after wind gusts and hail, plus moss/algae treatment in humid regions. Wood shakes demand regular sealing, fungicide application, and individual replacement. Interlock aluminum is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance — no coating, sealing, or treatment needed ever. Rainfall of 1024 mm annually naturally washes the roof; gutters occasionally need leaves removed. The interlocking panel system is designed not to trap debris. Most homeowners simply inspect the roof after severe weather to confirm nothing fell on it. This simplicity is worth thousands of labor dollars over a 50-year lifespan.

Is metal roofing more environmentally responsible than asphalt?

Substantially. Aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable — end-of-life Interlock panels can be melted down indefinitely. Asphalt shingles, by contrast, constitute landfill waste that accumulates for decades. A typical roof tear-off generates 5–10 tons of landfill material; Interlock's lightweight design (the Slate at 0.41 lb/sq ft) often installs over existing roofs, eliminating tear-off waste altogether. Since 1998, manufacturing in Delta, BC has used the same recycled aluminum feedstock available regionally. Choosing metal breaks the asphalt replacement cycle every 15–20 years and redirects end-of-life material back into the aluminum supply chain.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Greektown’s climate?

Yes. Greektown averages about 73 cm of snow, 1024 mm of rain, roughly 69 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 95 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
