Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Pilsen, Illinois
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
I think Interlock Roofing could have improved on the timing and having more flexibility in terms of when the project starts.
Interlock Metal Roofing is an amazing company to do business with. My salesperson John was professional and knowledgeable. It is a big investment, but absolutely worth it. The installation crew was on time, hardworking and conscientious. I highly recommend this company to anyone who wants a roof to last 100 years!
They could have improved on communication of the status of the project.
The materials were delivered on time but we had to help the person navigate materials to our yard and we unloaded the materials from the pallet.
I am extremely satisfied with the product. They did a fine job. I can not come up with anything they need to change. I am very satisfied, and the neighbors say they have roof envy.
Interlock was the only roofing company that took my request seriously. Another metal roofing company, whom I will not mention, basically dismissed my initial inquiry as not worth their time. They need to follow up with the customer confirming the start date, and/or informing them when there is a delay. I called several times with no response. I eventually, contacted John to get some answers, as the office scheduler could not be reached, as well as the field project manager. I believe that diligent follow-up and follow-thru communication is key to keeping the customer informed and prepared especially should their be a delay in the project. This is what makes businesses strive and be successful.
Fantastic people to work with, and they did a fantastic job! I was really amazed by them and I loved it!
Overall the process from start to finish was pretty smooth and the main thing is, we ended up with a fantastic new roof that should last for years. Clarification of non-standard items such as gutter removal and replacement for all types of roof and skylights between salesperson and installation crew as what is promised is not always deliverable.
Thank you
I'm very thankful for john. Without him i would not have done the project.
I very pleased with the product and pleased with the install. They did a good job. They did a better job than what I was expecting. The put the original flashing on, and I requested they put the flashing on that came with the roof, and they did. It looks much better. It was nice of them to change it for me. I was very pleased. It is what I wanted and I was lucky I found them.
We will definitely be recommending Interlock Roofing to anyone that is looking at replacing their roof. None that i can think of

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Pilsen
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Pilsen, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Pilsen.
Will a metal roof handle Chicago's freeze-thaw cycles better than asphalt?
Yes. Pilsen experiences about 69 freeze-thaw days per year, which causes asphalt to crack, curl, and split as moisture penetrates and expands. Aluminum's 3105-H24 alloy expands and contracts uniformly without absorbing water, so it never rots or splits. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating (30-year warranty under ASTM D4214) protects against UV and oxidation stress during these repeated cycles, extending your roof's life well beyond the asphalt cycle of 15–20 years.
Does Interlock Metal Roofing handle heavy snow loads in Pilsen?
Absolutely. Your area averages about 73 cm of snow annually, and metal's light weight is the advantage here. Interlock Slate, Cedar Shingle, and Shake profiles install at 0.41–0.58 lb/sq ft—so snow sits on the panel without compressing the structure. Snow guards are available to manage slide-off timing. The four-way interlocking panels (ESR-1790 rated) shed meltwater reliably, and the standing seam profile actively channels it away, preventing ice dams that plague asphalt in freeze-thaw zones.
Is my metal roof safe in Pilsen's wind gusts?
Yes. Cook County wind gusts average around 95 km/h, and Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist 120 mph (193 km/h) winds when installed to specification. The interlocking design distributes force across the entire panel assembly rather than relying on fasteners alone. This engineering—evaluated under ICC-ES ESR-1790—means your roof will perform safely during the worst seasonal wind events Pilsen typically sees, with no risk of panel blow-off or separation.
Can an aluminum roof rust in Pilsen's rainy climate?
No. Aluminum contains zero iron, so it cannot rust in Pilsen's humid, wet climate (averaging 1024 mm of annual rainfall). When aluminum is exposed, it forms an extremely thin oxide layer that actually heals itself when scratched—a natural protection asphalt and steel cannot offer. Interlock panels ship with a 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating (Alunar, applied to both sides) warranted 30 years against chalking and fading (ASTM D2244), providing a second barrier against the 69 annual freeze-thaw cycles and persistent moisture that degrade conventional materials.
Will hail damage my metal roof, and can it lower my insurance?
Interlock panels meet UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Severe hail is uncommon in Pilsen, but spring storms are typical. The non-combustible aluminum (Class A fire classification available) and impact durability often qualify you for homeowners insurance discounts because claims for weather damage are rare. Contact your carrier with the ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation to discuss your specific rate; many insurers recognize metal's superior storm resilience.
How much maintenance does a metal roof really need?
Minimal—far less than asphalt or wood. Twice yearly, rinse away the leaves and mineral deposits that 1024 mm of annual Pilsen rainfall can leave behind. There are no shingles to curl, crack, or replace, no algae blooms to treat, and no tar to degrade in the 3094 sunshine hours annually. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating (30-year warranty) resists weathering without re-sealing. The Guardian Warranty covers splitting, cracking, and curling—risks that force asphalt owners into constant patching—leaving you with a genuine last roof you buy.
Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost over a 40-year lifespan?
Yes. Asphalt costs less initially but requires tear-off and replacement every 15–20 years; three asphalt roofs over 45 years means three disposal bills and three installations. Interlock's Guardian Warranty is non-prorated lifetime limited for the original owner and one-time transferable—covering material for 50 years from completion—so you avoid replacement, labor, and landfill fees. The light weight (no reinforcement needed) reduces installation cost versus slate or tile. Over 40+ years in Pilsen's demanding 69 freeze-thaw cycle climate, metal is genuinely cheaper and eliminates the asphalt cycle entirely.
Do I need to reinforce my roof structure for a metal roof?
No. The Mediterranean Tile profile, despite its authentic appearance, weighs about 96% less than real concrete or clay tile—only 0.59 lb/sq ft. Slate and Cedar Shingle profiles are even lighter. This extraordinary lightness means Interlock installs directly over most existing roofs without structural reinforcement, saving thousands in framing upgrades. In Pilsen, where 73 cm of snow accumulates annually, this weight advantage means meltwater and ice loads don't compound the load—the panels themselves are negligible, so your existing structure handles seasonal stress safely.
Will a metal roof keep my Pilsen home cooler in summer?
energy-efficient colors with thermal emissivity up to 0.84 and initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 reflect heat that asphalt absorbs, reducing cooling load during Pilsen's warmer months within the 3094 annual sunshine hours. The Aged Copper Penny finish maximizes reflectance to cool your attic before heat enters living space. Metal roofs with reflective coatings are rated by the Cool Roof Rating Council—meaning measurable energy savings and potential utility rebates. The lightweight panels also distribute heat evenly without thermal bridging, so summer cooling costs drop compared to asphalt, which bakes and radiates absorbed heat into the structure.
Is metal roofing actually better for the environment?
Completely. Aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable; at end of life, your roof has genuine material value, not landfill weight. Asphalt roofing, by contrast, tears off every 15–20 years—three or four tear-offs over your home's lifetime—and nearly all ends up in landfills. Interlock's aluminum manufacturing (since 1998 in Delta, BC) produces durable panels that need no replacement over 50+ years, ending the asphalt cycle of waste and re-installation. CALGreen verification confirms the reduced maintenance burden and material longevity. Over Pilsen's seasonal stresses—1024 mm rainfall and 69 freeze-thaw days annually—metal simply lasts, whereas asphalt degrades predictably and repeatedly.
Is a metal roof a good choice for Pilsen’s climate?
Yes. Pilsen averages about 73 cm of snow, 1024 mm of rain, roughly 69 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 95 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
