Review: April 12, 2026 Completion: May 30, 2016

We had our roofed replaced by Interlock Roofing in 2016. One of the best decisions we’ve ever made! Our roof looks like slate shingles but is entirely metal. We e received many compliments on it over the years Recently we had a lot of strong wind and hailstorms and our representative, John Mondeshean, checked in with us to see if we sustained any roof damage. He came out and inspected our roof for us within a day or two. Luckily we didn’t have any damage. I’ve been impressed by this company and their product from day one. John is the consummate professional. Our roof is now 10 years old and I still say it was the best investment! Highly recommend!

Review: April 3, 2025 Completion: July 31, 2024

Very heavy investment, but worth every cent! I worked with John and he was very mindful in planning everything out- especially the finer details of what was needed for the house and for the project. His crew was spectacular in their workmanship and friendliness. The only minor issue I had was the scheduling of the project- which is of nobody's fault. Things get done when they get done and those who are waiting, will be happy they waited. Not exaggerating, many customers will be quite pleased with the end result. I'm one of them. Many thanks, John, crew & Interlock!

Not only was the sales process easy, the installation guys were very respectful of my neighbors and my comfort while they were working. Now that it’s done I absolutely love the roof. It’s already made a huge difference in my electric use for cooling the house!

Review: May 8, 2024 Completion: April 29, 2024

We are so proud of our new roof. It is so cool looking, it adds a great deal to the curb-appeal of our house. I also appreciate the security of knowing I'll never have to replace it or worry about it in even the strongest winds. I used to lose shingles in strong windstorms. Interlock was easy to work with. The workers were very respectful of my property and were meticulous about clean up after.

Review: November 30, 2023 Completion: October 31, 2023

This project has been a roller coaster: First they were doing a good job, then not, then they assured us of the results and things looked good until we questioned something and they completely dropped the ball. They took our money and never followed up. Communication by Allen Gessell seems to be the weak link. He was horrible and ghosted us. It is a HUGE SHAME that what could have been a wonderful situation has become a fearful nightmare!

I'm really excited and pleased with the roof. I love everything about it in terms of color, style, and installation. Everything was done to our utmost satisfaction. Interlock Roofing could have improved the price. The price was expensive. It was a fantastic experience.

The entire team (from sales to installation) was very clear regarding the timeline and next steps for the entire project. The end product looks great and is a vast improvement compared to the appearance of our prior roof. Good clear communication. No issues on my end.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Armour Square

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Armour Square, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Armour Square.

How does a metal roof handle Armour Square's annual snowfall?

Interlock panels shed snow efficiently because aluminum's smooth surface resists ice adhesion, and the four-way interlocking system keeps panels secure under the weight of about 73 cm of snow per year. The lightweight design—the Slate profile weighs just 0.41 lb/sq ft—means snow load stresses your home far less than asphalt or clay tile would. Install snow guards if desired to manage sliding; the standing seam profile anchors them securely. Your roof stays watertight through repeated thaw-refreeze cycles, which occur about 69 days per year in this area.

Will freeze-thaw cycles damage an aluminum metal roof?

No. Aluminum expands and contracts slightly with temperature swings, but it does not crack, split, or curl—the exact failure modes Interlock's lifetime warranty excludes. With roughly 69 freeze-thaw days annually in Cook County, this durability matters. The 3105-H24 aluminum alloy is engineered to flex without fatigue over decades. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating (warranted 30 years against chalking) prevents weather degradation that weakens asphalt shingles in freeze-thaw zones. Your roof remains intact and leak-free through thousands of seasonal cycles.

Why does Interlock use aluminum instead of steel for metal roofing?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. When exposed, aluminum naturally forms an oxide layer that is itself corrosion-resistant and self-heals if scratched—meaning your roof repairs itself at the molecular level. Interlock applies Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating to both sides of every panel, adding another 30-year rated barrier. Armour Square receives about 1024 mm of rain annually, yet aluminum roofs installed here remain structurally sound for 50+ years. Steel roofing rusts and weakens over time; aluminum does not. This distinction defines the lifetime warranty difference.

Can my home's frame support a metal roof, or do I need reinforcement?

Most homes need no reinforcement. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile—which replicates heavy clay or concrete tile—weighs just 0.59 lb/sq ft, making it approximately 96% lighter than the tile it mimics. Even the heaviest profile installs over existing asphalt without structural upgrades. This matters in Armour Square: you avoid the cost and disruption of beam reinforcement while gaining authentic tile aesthetics. Interlock panels install directly over your current roof, reducing labor and waste. The four-way interlock system distributes the minimal load evenly, protecting your home's framing from the unnecessary stress of traditional slate, shake, or tile.

How long does installation take, and can you install over my existing roof?

Yes, Interlock installs over most existing asphalt roofs—no tear-off required. Installation timelines depend on roof size and profile; local installer Interlock Metal Roofing, serving this region since 2001, completes most residential projects in 1–3 days. Installing over your current roof saves labor costs and eliminates the landfill waste of asphalt disposal. Underlayment is applied, then panels interlock four ways for wind resistance and watertight sealing. You avoid the disruption of a full tear-off in Armour Square's rainy climate (about 1024 mm annually), keeping weather out during the process. The crew leaves your property clean.

Does a metal roof stay secure in Armour Square's wind gusts?

Yes. Interlock panels are warranted to resist wind up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. Cook County experiences typical gusts around 95 km/h; your roof exceeds that by a factor of 2. The four-way interlocking system locks panels on all four sides, distributing wind loads evenly and preventing uplift. This design earns ICC-ES evaluation ESR-1790 compliance with current IBC/IRC codes. Unlike asphalt shingles, which tear and peel in high gusts, Interlock's aluminum structure remains rigid and sealed. Your roof will not blow off or leak in the windiest days this area sees.

What happens if hail hits my metal roof?

Interlock panels carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Class 4 rating means your roof resists damage from the harshest hail events. Check with your homeowner's insurance agent; some carriers offer premium discounts for Class 4-rated roofs because they file fewer claims. Aluminum's ductility (unlike brittle asphalt or tile) means it absorbs impact without cracking. If a stone does puncture a panel, the damage is localized and repairable, not widespread. Interlock's lifetime limited warranty covers impact loss of resistance, so your roof's protective integrity is guaranteed even after the hailstone event.

Will a metal roof reduce my cooling costs in summer?

energy-efficient colors reflect solar heat rather than absorbing it the way asphalt does. Select colors achieve thermal emissivity of 0.84 and initial solar reflectance up to 0.55—measured to Cool Roof Rating Council standards—meaning less heat enters your home. With about 3094 sunshine hours per year in Armour Square, this reflectance adds up over the season. Metal roofs are warmer in winter only if uninsulated; with standard attic insulation, they perform like any roof but without asphalt's heat absorption. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating maintains reflectance for 30 years (ASTM D2244 certified), so your cooling savings persist. Compare the summer electric bill to asphalt and you'll see the advantage.

How much maintenance does a metal roof require compared to asphalt or tile?

Interlock requires minimal maintenance—typically clearing leaves and debris annually. Unlike asphalt shingles, which curl, crack, and lose granules over time in freeze-thaw climates, aluminum does not split or degrade. Unlike wood shake, it resists rot and insect damage. Unlike clay tile, it does not crack from impact or settling. Interlock is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance, meaning lower lifetime ownership cost. In Armour Square's 69 annual freeze-thaw days and 1024 mm rainfall, asphalt deteriorates visibly within 15–20 years; aluminum does not. You may inspect gutters and flashing, but the panels themselves remain unchanged for decades. This translates to no sealant reapplication, no spot repairs, and no premature replacement.

Is a metal roof more environmentally responsible than asphalt shingles?

Yes. Interlock aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable at end of life, versus asphalt shingles which become landfill waste. Traditional roofing generates tear-off debris that takes decades to decompose; metal roofing ends that cycle. Aluminum's lightweight design (0.41–0.59 lb/sq ft depending on profile) means lower transportation emissions than slate, tile, or concrete alternatives. Manufactured in Delta, BC since 1998, Interlock panels are engineered for 50+ year lifespan, so you avoid the environmental cost of multiple re-roofing projects over your home's life. After decades of use protecting Armour Square homes through 73 cm of snow and 1024 mm of rain annually, your Interlock roof can be fully recycled, not discarded.
