Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Canaryville, Illinois
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |

What our customers are saying:
We had our roofed replaced by Interlock Roofing in 2016. One of the best decisions we’ve ever made! Our roof looks like slate shingles but is entirely metal. We e received many compliments on it over the years Recently we had a lot of strong wind and hailstorms and our representative, John Mondeshean, checked in with us to see if we sustained any roof damage. He came out and inspected our roof for us within a day or two. Luckily we didn’t have any damage. I’ve been impressed by this company and their product from day one. John is the consummate professional. Our roof is now 10 years old and I still say it was the best investment! Highly recommend!
Very heavy investment, but worth every cent! I worked with John and he was very mindful in planning everything out- especially the finer details of what was needed for the house and for the project. His crew was spectacular in their workmanship and friendliness. The only minor issue I had was the scheduling of the project- which is of nobody's fault. Things get done when they get done and those who are waiting, will be happy they waited. Not exaggerating, many customers will be quite pleased with the end result. I'm one of them. Many thanks, John, crew & Interlock!
Not only was the sales process easy, the installation guys were very respectful of my neighbors and my comfort while they were working. Now that it’s done I absolutely love the roof. It’s already made a huge difference in my electric use for cooling the house!
We are so proud of our new roof. It is so cool looking, it adds a great deal to the curb-appeal of our house. I also appreciate the security of knowing I'll never have to replace it or worry about it in even the strongest winds. I used to lose shingles in strong windstorms. Interlock was easy to work with. The workers were very respectful of my property and were meticulous about clean up after.
This project has been a roller coaster: First they were doing a good job, then not, then they assured us of the results and things looked good until we questioned something and they completely dropped the ball. They took our money and never followed up. Communication by Allen Gessell seems to be the weak link. He was horrible and ghosted us. It is a HUGE SHAME that what could have been a wonderful situation has become a fearful nightmare!
I'm really excited and pleased with the roof. I love everything about it in terms of color, style, and installation. Everything was done to our utmost satisfaction. Interlock Roofing could have improved the price. The price was expensive. It was a fantastic experience.
Scheduling
I think Interlock Roofing could have improved on the timing and having more flexibility in terms of when the project starts.
Communication on delivery and actual start time
The entire team (from sales to installation) was very clear regarding the timeline and next steps for the entire project. The end product looks great and is a vast improvement compared to the appearance of our prior roof. Good clear communication. No issues on my end.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Canaryville
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Canaryville, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Canaryville.
How does a metal roof handle Canaryville's snow and ice buildup?
Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels shed snow effectively because the smooth surface doesn't trap moisture the way asphalt does, and the lightweight design (Slate at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means no structural overload during the region's typical 73 cm annual snowfall. The panels are rated to handle significant snow load per ICC-ES ESR-1790, and optional snow guards keep slides off edges safely. With about 69 freeze-thaw days per year in Cook County, aluminum's non-corrosive oxide layer doesn't degrade from repeated wetting and freezing like asphalt or wood shake do.
Why can't an aluminum metal roof rust, and does that matter in Illinois?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that corrodes. Instead, aluminum forms a naturally occurring oxide layer that protects the metal and self-heals when scratched. In Canaryville's climate, with roughly 1024 mm of annual rainfall and occasional freeze-thaw stress, this matters enormously: steel roofs deteriorate from rust spotting within years, while Interlock's 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) paired with the Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish on both sides stays structurally sound and watertight for decades.
Can a metal roof withstand Cook County wind gusts and storms?
Yes. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification. Canaryville typically sees daily-max winds around 25 km/h with gusts reaching 95 km/h, well within that rating. The interlocking design means each panel locks to its neighbors on four sides, distributing wind load across the entire roof rather than relying on fasteners alone. The system is engineered for real-world conditions and backed by proof: it has performed through documented storms across North America since 1998.
Do I need to reinforce my house structure for a metal tile roof?
No. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile installs at approximately 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than genuine clay or concrete tile—so your existing roof framing supports it without structural upgrades. Compare that to slate or traditional tile, which require costly reinforcement before installation. This advantage matters in older Canaryville homes where adding dead load isn't feasible. Since the material is so light, Interlock often installs directly over your existing roof, reducing labor cost and tear-off waste. That's practical engineering: the profile delivers tile aesthetics with aluminum's efficiency.
Will freeze-thaw cycles crack or warp an aluminum metal roof?
Aluminum doesn't crack, split, or warp from freeze-thaw stress because it's a homogeneous metal with high tensile strength and low expansion coefficient. In Canaryville, you experience roughly 69 freeze-thaw days annually—enough to destroy asphalt shingles and split wood shake within a decade—but aluminum simply cycles through temperature changes without structural damage. The Alunar finish (warranted 30 years against chalking and fading per ASTM D4214/D2244) maintains its integrity through these stress cycles, whereas coatings on traditional materials degrade and allow water penetration that accelerates damage.
How does a metal roof perform in hail, and can it lower my insurance?
Interlock carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Because aluminum doesn't dent permanently and the coating doesn't chip like asphalt does, many insurers recognize the durability and offer premium discounts. Hail events in Illinois are factored into regional risk models, and a roof rated Class 4 demonstrates resilience that underwriters value. The impact resistance also doesn't degrade over time: it's a material property, not a coating that erodes. Contact your insurer with the UL 2218 specification to explore available credits.
Will a reflective metal roof actually cut my cooling costs?
Interlock's energy-efficient colors reflect solar heat rather than absorbing it the way asphalt does, lowering cooling demand during the region's 3094 annual sunshine hours. The Aged Copper Penny profile achieves initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, meaning it releases absorbed heat efficiently and reduces attic temperature. For a typical Canaryville home, this translates to measurable cooling savings in summer. The Cool Roof Rating Council certification confirms the performance data independently, so the energy benefit is documented—not marketing hype.
What's the real lifespan of an Interlock metal roof in Illinois?
Interlock carries a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. That warranty is transferable once to the next owner with 50 years from completion—a guarantee no asphalt or wood roof matches. The aluminum won't degrade from Canaryville's 1024 mm annual rainfall or 73 cm snow, and the Alunar coating lasts 30 years before any chalking occurs. The combination means 40+ years of worry-free performance for most homeowners, with structural integrity continuing well beyond that timeframe.
How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or tile?
Aluminum requires virtually no maintenance beyond keeping gutters clear. You don't power-wash it, don't replace fasteners as they loosen, and don't repair splits or curling like asphalt shingles develop after 15–20 years in freeze-thaw climates. Tile cracks from hail and root damage; wood shake splits and rots from moisture and ice. Interlock stays intact through Canaryville's 69 annual freeze-thaw cycles and 95 km/h gusts without deterioration. The Alunar finish is self-protective and doesn't require recoating. Over a 50-year lifespan, the labor savings and absence of emergency repairs make aluminum a genuinely low-maintenance choice.
Is metal roofing actually better for the environment than asphalt shingles?
Yes, fundamentally. Aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable at end of life and creates zero landfill waste when replaced. Traditional asphalt shingle tear-offs generate thousands of tons annually that end up in landfills, where they persist for centuries. Interlock aluminum eliminates that disposal problem entirely. The manufacturing process in Delta, BC has been carbon-efficient since 1998, and the roof's 40+ year lifespan means fewer replacements per century than asphalt (which needs replacement every 15–20 years in northern climates with heavy snow and freeze-thaw stress). CALGreen verified and installed from coastal homes to Antarctic research stations, Interlock is an environmentally responsible material that works.
