What our customers are saying:
We had our roofed replaced by Interlock Roofing in 2016. One of the best decisions we’ve ever made! Our roof looks like slate shingles but is entirely metal. We e received many compliments on it over the years Recently we had a lot of strong wind and hailstorms and our representative, John Mondeshean, checked in with us to see if we sustained any roof damage. He came out and inspected our roof for us within a day or two. Luckily we didn’t have any damage. I’ve been impressed by this company and their product from day one. John is the consummate professional. Our roof is now 10 years old and I still say it was the best investment! Highly recommend!
Very heavy investment, but worth every cent! I worked with John and he was very mindful in planning everything out- especially the finer details of what was needed for the house and for the project. His crew was spectacular in their workmanship and friendliness. The only minor issue I had was the scheduling of the project- which is of nobody's fault. Things get done when they get done and those who are waiting, will be happy they waited. Not exaggerating, many customers will be quite pleased with the end result. I'm one of them. Many thanks, John, crew & Interlock!
Not only was the sales process easy, the installation guys were very respectful of my neighbors and my comfort while they were working. Now that it’s done I absolutely love the roof. It’s already made a huge difference in my electric use for cooling the house!
We are so proud of our new roof. It is so cool looking, it adds a great deal to the curb-appeal of our house. I also appreciate the security of knowing I'll never have to replace it or worry about it in even the strongest winds. I used to lose shingles in strong windstorms. Interlock was easy to work with. The workers were very respectful of my property and were meticulous about clean up after.
This project has been a roller coaster: First they were doing a good job, then not, then they assured us of the results and things looked good until we questioned something and they completely dropped the ball. They took our money and never followed up. Communication by Allen Gessell seems to be the weak link. He was horrible and ghosted us. It is a HUGE SHAME that what could have been a wonderful situation has become a fearful nightmare!
I'm really excited and pleased with the roof. I love everything about it in terms of color, style, and installation. Everything was done to our utmost satisfaction. Interlock Roofing could have improved the price. The price was expensive. It was a fantastic experience.
Scheduling
I think Interlock Roofing could have improved on the timing and having more flexibility in terms of when the project starts.
Communication on delivery and actual start time
The entire team (from sales to installation) was very clear regarding the timeline and next steps for the entire project. The end product looks great and is a vast improvement compared to the appearance of our prior roof. Good clear communication. No issues on my end.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Englewood
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Englewood, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Englewood.
Will metal roofing hold up through Englewood's freeze-thaw cycles?
Yes—aluminum's oxide layer actually becomes more durable as it cycles. Englewood sees about 69 freeze-thaw days per year, and unlike asphalt shingles that crack and curl under that stress, or wood that splits, aluminum expands and contracts without material degradation. The 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 alloy used in Interlock panels has no iron, so it cannot rust even when salt or moisture work into seams during winter thaw. The self-healing oxide layer protects the base metal continuously, which matters when you're dealing with wet snow and icing every winter.
How does a metal roof handle Englewood's snow loads and ice dams?
The four-way interlocking seams shed snow and ice reliably without trapping water. Englewood averages about 73 cm of snow annually, and the lightweight design—Interlock Shingle at just 0.41 lb/sq ft—means no structural reinforcement is needed, even when snow accumulates. The smooth profiles allow controlled melt and drainage, reducing ice dam buildup. Snow guards can be installed where needed to manage slide-off. Because the panels are so light compared to concrete tile (about 96% lighter), they can be installed directly over most existing roofs without adding load, which is practical for retrofit installations in this climate.
Can metal roofing handle the amount of rain Englewood gets?
Interlock's four-way interlocking panels are designed to shed heavy rainfall without pooling water in seams. Englewood receives about 1024 mm of rain per year, distributed across roughly 110 days, so consistent drainage matters. The interlocking design overlaps panels on all four sides, directing water downslope and preventing capillary action that can cause leaks. Installation over a solid deck with underlayment creates a three-layer defense. The ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation confirms the system's water management under the International Building Code, and proper installation to spec is covered under the Guardian Warranty.
Is metal roofing safe in Englewood's windy weather?
Four-way interlocking panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification. Englewood's typical gusts reach about 95 km/h (59 mph), well below that threshold, so wind is not a structural concern here. The interlocking design means each panel is mechanically engaged on all sides—not fastened in isolation. This redundancy is why the system handles extreme wind without panel separation or lift. The Guardian Warranty covers wind damage up to the rated speed, and your installer will ensure fastening follows the ESR-1790 specification, which accounts for Cook County's exposure.
Will hail damage void my metal roof warranty or affect insurance rates?
Interlock panels carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Many insurers recognize this durability and offer discounts on premiums compared to asphalt shingles. Because aluminum is non-combustible and impact-resistant, insurers view metal roofing as a lower-risk investment. Document your UL 2218 Class 4 rating with your insurer when the roof is installed; some carriers will lower your deductible or rate immediately. This is especially valuable in Englewood, where severe weather can occur suddenly.
Why won't my aluminum metal roof rust like steel roofing does?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—iron oxidizes and creates rust, but aluminum's oxide layer is protective and self-healing. When scratched, the aluminum automatically re-oxidizes and seals the exposed surface. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) on both sides, and both sides receive the Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish, warranted 30 years against fading and chalking. This dual-sided coating is especially important in Englewood, where winter moisture and salt spray from nearby roads can accelerate corrosion in steel. Aluminum simply will not rust under those conditions.
Does my Englewood home need structural reinforcement for a metal tile roof?
No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Concrete tile alone weighs 12-15 lb/sq ft, so a traditional tile roof would require extensive framing upgrades. Because metal tile installs at less than one pound per square foot, it can be applied directly over most existing roofs without adding load. This matters in Englewood, where many homes were built on standard residential framing. You get the aesthetic of high-end tile without the engineering cost, making tile a practical retrofit choice here.
How much maintenance does an Interlock metal roof need in Englewood?
Virtually none compared to asphalt, wood, or tile. With about 3094 sunshine hours per year in Englewood, UV exposure is managed by the Alunar 70% PVDF coating, which is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading—you won't refinish or repaint. Asphalt requires periodic seal coating and tab replacement; wood shake cracks and needs repairs; clay tile breaks and must be individually replaced. Metal doesn't split, curl, rot, or need sealing. CALGreen verification confirms reduced maintenance burden. Gutters and downspouts need clearing like any roof, but the metal surface itself remains stable through Englewood's 69 annual freeze-thaw cycles without degradation.
Can a metal roof actually lower my cooling costs in the Chicago area?
energy-efficient Interlock colors are designed to reflect solar heat rather than absorb it. The Aged Copper Penny finish achieves initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, meaning it bounces heat away rather than storing it like asphalt does. Over Englewood's about 3094 sunshine hours yearly, this reflectance reduces roof surface temperature and cuts cooling load, especially during summer months. The Cool Roof Rating Council rating confirms this performance under real conditions. Dark asphalt absorbs and radiates heat into your attic; reflective metal keeps it out. On a typically cool Chicago summer, reflective metal won't transform your energy bill, but it will reduce peak cooling demand on hot days.
Is the Interlock warranty really lifetime, and what does that actually cover?
The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—meaning no annual value reduction. It covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. That scope is unusually broad; most metal roofs exclude labor or pro-rate after year 10. The warranty is one-time transferable to the next owner for 50 years from completion, which adds real resale appeal. Non-prorated means if a panel fails in year 25, Interlock replaces it at no cost—not at 40% of original price. Combined with the 30-year coating warranty against fading, this structure reflects confidence in the product's durability through Englewood's 69 freeze-thaw days and high moisture environment.
Is a metal roof a good choice for Englewood’s climate?
Yes. Englewood averages about 73 cm of snow, 1024 mm of rain, roughly 69 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 95 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
