Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Brighton Park, Illinois
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
We had our roofed replaced by Interlock Roofing in 2016. One of the best decisions we’ve ever made! Our roof looks like slate shingles but is entirely metal. We e received many compliments on it over the years Recently we had a lot of strong wind and hailstorms and our representative, John Mondeshean, checked in with us to see if we sustained any roof damage. He came out and inspected our roof for us within a day or two. Luckily we didn’t have any damage. I’ve been impressed by this company and their product from day one. John is the consummate professional. Our roof is now 10 years old and I still say it was the best investment! Highly recommend!
Very heavy investment, but worth every cent! I worked with John and he was very mindful in planning everything out- especially the finer details of what was needed for the house and for the project. His crew was spectacular in their workmanship and friendliness. The only minor issue I had was the scheduling of the project- which is of nobody's fault. Things get done when they get done and those who are waiting, will be happy they waited. Not exaggerating, many customers will be quite pleased with the end result. I'm one of them. Many thanks, John, crew & Interlock!
Not only was the sales process easy, the installation guys were very respectful of my neighbors and my comfort while they were working. Now that it’s done I absolutely love the roof. It’s already made a huge difference in my electric use for cooling the house!
We are so proud of our new roof. It is so cool looking, it adds a great deal to the curb-appeal of our house. I also appreciate the security of knowing I'll never have to replace it or worry about it in even the strongest winds. I used to lose shingles in strong windstorms. Interlock was easy to work with. The workers were very respectful of my property and were meticulous about clean up after.
This project has been a roller coaster: First they were doing a good job, then not, then they assured us of the results and things looked good until we questioned something and they completely dropped the ball. They took our money and never followed up. Communication by Allen Gessell seems to be the weak link. He was horrible and ghosted us. It is a HUGE SHAME that what could have been a wonderful situation has become a fearful nightmare!
I'm really excited and pleased with the roof. I love everything about it in terms of color, style, and installation. Everything was done to our utmost satisfaction. Interlock Roofing could have improved the price. The price was expensive. It was a fantastic experience.
Scheduling
I think Interlock Roofing could have improved on the timing and having more flexibility in terms of when the project starts.
Communication on delivery and actual start time
The entire team (from sales to installation) was very clear regarding the timeline and next steps for the entire project. The end product looks great and is a vast improvement compared to the appearance of our prior roof. Good clear communication. No issues on my end.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Brighton Park
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Brighton Park, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Brighton Park.
How does a metal roof handle the snow and ice we get in Brighton Park each winter?
Metal roofs shed snow and ice effectively because their smooth, hard surface doesn't trap moisture the way asphalt does, so ice dams—common in Chicago's freeze-thaw cycle of about 69 days per year—are far less likely to form. Brighton Park averages roughly 73 cm of snow annually. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels create a unified surface that won't crack or lift under the stress of freeze-thaw cycling, and if you install snow guards (optional), they'll hold back accumulation safely without damaging the panels. Unlike slate or wood shingles, aluminum won't split from ice expansion.
Why won't an aluminum metal roof rust like steel roofing does?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes and creates rust. Instead, aluminum naturally forms a thin, protective oxide layer that actually heals itself when scratched. That's why Interlock has installed roofs in harsh salt-air coastal environments and even on Antarctic research stations. Our 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy meets ASTM B209, and the Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish is applied to both sides, giving you a 30-year warranty against chalking and fading. In Brighton Park's 1024 mm of annual rain and variable humidity, this dual protection means your roof will outlast the corrosion cycle of any steel alternative.
Does aluminum roofing hold up to freeze-thaw cycling better than other materials?
Yes—aluminum's molecular structure expands and contracts uniformly without cracking or degrading, while wood and concrete tile become brittle and fracture after repeated cycles. Brighton Park experiences about 69 freeze-thaw days per year, which accelerates the breakdown of asphalt (which hardens and loses granules), slate (which delaminates), and clay tile (which develops hairline fractures that admit water). Aluminum panels, rated to ICC-ES ESR-1790 standards, move as one piece and maintain structural integrity through thousands of thermal cycles. The Alunar coating's 30-year fade warranty remains intact because the material underneath isn't deteriorating, so your roof performs in year 25 the same way it did in year one.
Can my home's frame handle a metal roof, or will I need expensive structural upgrades?
No upgrades needed. The Interlock Tile profile, which replicates the look of heavy concrete or clay tile, weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than the real thing. That means you can often install over your existing roof without adding framing support. Compare that to concrete tile at 15+ lb/sq ft: your home's structure already bears the load for asphalt shingles (about 3–4 lb/sq ft), so metal sits comfortably in between. In Brighton Park, where annual snow averages 73 cm, the light weight actually helps—less load during winter storms, easier installation, and no demolition costs to remove old roofing.
How well does interlocking metal roofing hold up in Chicago-area wind storms?
Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h)—well beyond Cook County's typical gust speeds of 95 km/h. The interlocking design creates a unified, load-sharing structure where each panel supports its neighbors, preventing individual lift-off or flutter. This geometry passes the same rigorous wind testing that protects coastal and high-elevation homes. Brighton Park's mean daily-max winds of 25 km/h with occasional severe gusts won't loosen or separate these panels, and the warranty covers wind damage to the fastening system. You won't experience the blown-off shingles or flapping that plague asphalt roofs after a storm.
Will a metal roof reduce my homeowners insurance costs after a hail event?
Metal roofing can qualify for insurance discounts, and Interlock carries the highest impact rating available: UL 2218 Class 4, warranted even against hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Some insurers reduce premiums for Class 4 roofing because claims are rare. Call your agent with the UL rating and ESR-1790 code approval to ask about discounts before you install. While Brighton Park averages 3094 sunshine hours and isn't in a hail belt like eastern Colorado, occasional spring storms can occur. A metal roof won't dent or lose surface material from impact the way asphalt does, so you avoid repeated claims and the likelihood of being dropped by your carrier.
How long does installation take, and can you install over my existing roof?
Installation typically takes 2–4 weeks depending on roof size and weather, and yes, you can install over most existing asphalt shingles without tearing them off—saving thousands in labor and landfill tipping fees. A solid deck and proper ventilation are essential. The installer will flash valleys, ridges, and penetrations using Interlock-matched metal trim, which integrates seamlessly with whichever profile you choose (Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, or Mediterranean Tile). In Brighton Park's climate of 1024 mm annual rain, proper flashing and a 6-month service inspection ensure zero leaks. If tear-off is necessary, Interlock serves the region since 2001 and can coordinate the whole project, including removal and recycling of your old roof.
Does a metal roof actually reduce cooling costs, or is that marketing hype?
It's not hype—energy-efficient Interlock colors reflect heat rather than absorb it. Our rated products achieve thermal emissivity of 0.84 and initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny, for example), certified by the Cool Roof Rating Council. Asphalt shingles, by contrast, absorb heat and transmit it into your attic, raising indoor temperature by 10–15 degrees on sunny days. Brighton Park receives about 3094 sunshine hours annually, so even moderate reflection compounds across the year. You'll see the biggest cooling savings in summer, but the reflective finish also reduces thermal stress on the coating itself, which is why Alunar's 30-year fade warranty holds: less UV degradation because the roof isn't getting as hot.
What maintenance does an Interlock metal roof actually require compared to asphalt or wood?
Virtually none. Asphalt shingles lose granules and develop algae stains; wood shingles split and require fungicide treatments; concrete tile cracks in freeze-thaw cycles. Interlock aluminum requires no sealant reapplication, no annual inspection for rot, and won't harbor moss or mold because water sheds instantly. After 1024 mm of annual rain in Brighton Park, your roof self-cleans naturally. CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance, its only real upkeep is occasional inspection of flashing and clearing leaves from valleys—the same task you'd do for any roof. The Alunar 70% PVDF finish is field-proven since 1998 to resist chalking and fading in wet, salty, and cold climates, so there's no coating refresh in year 15 or 20.
What's covered under the Interlock lifetime warranty, and does it transfer to the next owner?
The Guardian is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner, transferable once to the next owner for 50 years from completion—meaning the second owner has zero material coverage worries for half a century. It covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance; you won't find a more comprehensive roofing warranty. Compare that to asphalt (15–25 years prorated, so costs climb) or even premium slate (prorated after year 20). In Brighton Park's 69 annual freeze-thaw cycles and 73 cm snow load, a non-prorated lifetime guarantee is huge: year 30, year 50, year 75—no hidden conditions. This warranty is why second-hand Interlock homes resell faster and at higher price points.
