Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Archer Heights, Illinois
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |

What our customers are saying:
We had our roofed replaced by Interlock Roofing in 2016. One of the best decisions we’ve ever made! Our roof looks like slate shingles but is entirely metal. We e received many compliments on it over the years Recently we had a lot of strong wind and hailstorms and our representative, John Mondeshean, checked in with us to see if we sustained any roof damage. He came out and inspected our roof for us within a day or two. Luckily we didn’t have any damage. I’ve been impressed by this company and their product from day one. John is the consummate professional. Our roof is now 10 years old and I still say it was the best investment! Highly recommend!
Very heavy investment, but worth every cent! I worked with John and he was very mindful in planning everything out- especially the finer details of what was needed for the house and for the project. His crew was spectacular in their workmanship and friendliness. The only minor issue I had was the scheduling of the project- which is of nobody's fault. Things get done when they get done and those who are waiting, will be happy they waited. Not exaggerating, many customers will be quite pleased with the end result. I'm one of them. Many thanks, John, crew & Interlock!
Not only was the sales process easy, the installation guys were very respectful of my neighbors and my comfort while they were working. Now that it’s done I absolutely love the roof. It’s already made a huge difference in my electric use for cooling the house!
We are so proud of our new roof. It is so cool looking, it adds a great deal to the curb-appeal of our house. I also appreciate the security of knowing I'll never have to replace it or worry about it in even the strongest winds. I used to lose shingles in strong windstorms. Interlock was easy to work with. The workers were very respectful of my property and were meticulous about clean up after.
This project has been a roller coaster: First they were doing a good job, then not, then they assured us of the results and things looked good until we questioned something and they completely dropped the ball. They took our money and never followed up. Communication by Allen Gessell seems to be the weak link. He was horrible and ghosted us. It is a HUGE SHAME that what could have been a wonderful situation has become a fearful nightmare!
I'm really excited and pleased with the roof. I love everything about it in terms of color, style, and installation. Everything was done to our utmost satisfaction. Interlock Roofing could have improved the price. The price was expensive. It was a fantastic experience.
Scheduling
I think Interlock Roofing could have improved on the timing and having more flexibility in terms of when the project starts.
Communication on delivery and actual start time
The entire team (from sales to installation) was very clear regarding the timeline and next steps for the entire project. The end product looks great and is a vast improvement compared to the appearance of our prior roof. Good clear communication. No issues on my end.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Archer Heights
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Archer Heights, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Archer Heights.
Will a metal roof handle Chicago winters and all those freeze-thaw cycles?
Yes—aluminum expands and contracts with temperature swings, but it does so uniformly without cracking or splitting like asphalt or wood. Archer Heights sees about 69 freeze-thaw days per year, cycling between below and above freezing. Aluminum's 3105-H24 alloy has no iron, so ice melt and road salt won't cause rust. The Alunar coating on both panel sides adds 30-year protection against corrosion, meaning your roof simply ages without deteriorating the way other materials do in this climate.
How does a metal roof perform under Archer Heights' typical snowfall?
Metal roofing handles snow load well because the panels themselves are extraordinarily light. The Slate profile installs at only 0.41 lb per square foot, so your roof structure carries snow weight easily—no reinforcement needed. Archer Heights receives about 73 cm of snow annually. The four-way interlocking design and smooth profiles shed snow and ice naturally. Metal also won't absorb moisture or rot when snow sits against it, unlike wood shakes or asphalt that deteriorates under repeated snow and thaw cycles.
Can metal roofing stand up to Archer Heights wind and gusts?
The four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph, which far exceeds local conditions. Cook County gusts typically reach about 95 km/h (59 mph), and Interlock's ESR-1790 code evaluation confirms the system's wind performance under ICC standards. The interlocking seams lock each panel to its neighbors, distributing wind load across the entire roof rather than stressing individual fasteners. Over more than two decades of installations, from coastal salt-air zones to extreme wind corridors, the design has proven itself.
Does a metal roof qualify for insurance discounts in this area?
Impact resistance matters in any climate, and Interlock achieves the highest available rating: UL 2218 Class 4. That means the roof is warrantied against perforation even from 1.5-inch hailstones. Many insurers recognize Class 4 impact ratings and offer premium discounts, especially on metal roofs that don't need replacement after a severe storm. Check with your agent about potential savings; the combination of longevity and impact durability often reduces your risk profile in their eyes, which can lower your overall insurance cost over time.
With about 1000 mm of rain per year, how does metal roofing prevent leaks?
Archer Heights receives roughly 1024 mm of annual rainfall. Metal roof panels are installed over a solid roof deck with underlayment—the same base as asphalt roofing—so water runs off the smooth, interlocking surface and into gutters. The four-way interlocking seams overlap and are sealed during installation, creating continuous barriers to water penetration. When paired with proper flashing at penetrations and guttering, the system performs identically to asphalt in heavy rain. The difference: metal won't absorb water, rot, or degrade like asphalt granules do.
Why doesn't aluminum rust like steel roofing?
Aluminum contains no iron—the element that rusts. When aluminum is exposed to oxygen, it forms a thin aluminum oxide layer that actually protects the metal underneath. If that layer is scratched, it self-heals in air. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum (ASTM B209) with a two-sided Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish, warranted 30 years against chalking and fading. In Archer Heights' salt-air-free climate, the durability advantage is clear: your roof won't corrode, pit, or weaken over decades the way steel would in wet, freeze-thaw conditions.
What's the warranty on an Interlock metal roof, and does it transfer?
The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for you as the original owner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. That means if something fails, there's no depreciation schedule; Interlock replaces it. The warranty transfers once to the next owner for 50 years from completion, which adds significant resale appeal. Combined with aluminum's natural resistance to the 69 annual freeze-thaw cycles Archer Heights experiences, you're looking at a roof that lasts longer than the house mortgage.
Can I install a metal roof that looks like tile without reinforcing my roof frame?
Yes. The Mediterranean Tile profile weighs about 0.59 lb per square foot—roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Your existing roof structure can support it without reinforcement, which saves thousands on framing upgrades. You can often install Interlock Tile directly over your current asphalt roof, eliminating tear-off costs and landfill waste. This is a real advantage in Archer Heights, where older homes with standard framing are common. You get authentic tile aesthetics without the structural overhaul that traditional tile demands.
How much maintenance does a metal roof actually need?
Interlock metal roofing requires far less maintenance than asphalt, wood, or tile. No seasonal inspections for missing shingles, no caulk cracking in freeze-thaw cycles, no moss growth. Gutters need cleaning like any roof, but the aluminum panel surface itself won't deteriorate, chalk, or curl. The Alunar 30-year coating is verified by ASTM D4214 and D2244 standards to resist fading and chalking across Archer Heights' roughly 3094 annual sunshine hours. The only genuine wear is visual aging; the roof itself remains structurally sound and watertight for decades.
Who installs Interlock metal roofing in Archer Heights?
Interlock Metal Roofing has served this region since 2001 and maintains local expertise in Cook County installations. That means crews familiar with Archer Heights' freeze-thaw climate, snow loads, and local building code compliance (ESR-1790, IRC/IBC standards). Local installers understand how to flash around Chicago-area home designs, schedule around typical weather windows, and stand behind their work with fast service. Working with an installer who has spent decades in your specific region is worth more than price alone—they know what works here.
