What our customers are saying:
We had our roofed replaced by Interlock Roofing in 2016. One of the best decisions we’ve ever made! Our roof looks like slate shingles but is entirely metal. We e received many compliments on it over the years Recently we had a lot of strong wind and hailstorms and our representative, John Mondeshean, checked in with us to see if we sustained any roof damage. He came out and inspected our roof for us within a day or two. Luckily we didn’t have any damage. I’ve been impressed by this company and their product from day one. John is the consummate professional. Our roof is now 10 years old and I still say it was the best investment! Highly recommend!
Very heavy investment, but worth every cent! I worked with John and he was very mindful in planning everything out- especially the finer details of what was needed for the house and for the project. His crew was spectacular in their workmanship and friendliness. The only minor issue I had was the scheduling of the project- which is of nobody's fault. Things get done when they get done and those who are waiting, will be happy they waited. Not exaggerating, many customers will be quite pleased with the end result. I'm one of them. Many thanks, John, crew & Interlock!
Not only was the sales process easy, the installation guys were very respectful of my neighbors and my comfort while they were working. Now that it’s done I absolutely love the roof. It’s already made a huge difference in my electric use for cooling the house!
We are so proud of our new roof. It is so cool looking, it adds a great deal to the curb-appeal of our house. I also appreciate the security of knowing I'll never have to replace it or worry about it in even the strongest winds. I used to lose shingles in strong windstorms. Interlock was easy to work with. The workers were very respectful of my property and were meticulous about clean up after.
This project has been a roller coaster: First they were doing a good job, then not, then they assured us of the results and things looked good until we questioned something and they completely dropped the ball. They took our money and never followed up. Communication by Allen Gessell seems to be the weak link. He was horrible and ghosted us. It is a HUGE SHAME that what could have been a wonderful situation has become a fearful nightmare!
I'm really excited and pleased with the roof. I love everything about it in terms of color, style, and installation. Everything was done to our utmost satisfaction. Interlock Roofing could have improved the price. The price was expensive. It was a fantastic experience.
Scheduling
I think Interlock Roofing could have improved on the timing and having more flexibility in terms of when the project starts.
Communication on delivery and actual start time
The entire team (from sales to installation) was very clear regarding the timeline and next steps for the entire project. The end product looks great and is a vast improvement compared to the appearance of our prior roof. Good clear communication. No issues on my end.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Woodlawn
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Woodlawn, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Woodlawn.
Will a metal roof handle Woodlawn's freeze-thaw cycles without cracking or degrading?
Aluminum expands and contracts smoothly without cracking because it has no grain structure like slate or wood. Woodlawn experiences roughly 69 freeze-thaw days per year—cycles that cause traditional roofing to split and curl. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels (profiles: Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Tile, Standing Seam) move as one system; the oxide layer on the 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 aluminum alloy self-heals when scratched, so surface damage doesn't trigger corrosion chains. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating (30-year warranty against chalking and fading per ASTM D4214) resists the salt-laden air and moisture that freeze-thaw cycling brings in Cook County.
Can aluminum metal roofing rust in a climate like Woodlawn's with snow and moisture?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes and corrodes. Instead, aluminum forms a thin, self-healing oxide layer that protects the metal underneath. Even if scratched by installation or fallen branches, the oxide reforms naturally when exposed to air, stopping corrosion before it starts. This is why Interlock panels have been installed in coastal salt-air environments and even an Antarctic research station since 1998. With Woodlawn averaging 1024 mm of rain and 73 cm of snow annually, moisture exposure is constant, making aluminum's inherent corrosion resistance—backed by a lifetime limited warranty against rusting—far superior to steel roofing.
How does a metal roof perform under Woodlawn's annual snowfall and ice buildup?
The smooth, slippery aluminum surface sheds snow and ice more readily than asphalt shingles, which trap moisture and freeze into dams. Woodlawn receives about 73 cm of snow per year; the light weight of Interlock panels (the Shingle profile installs at roughly 0.41 lb/sq ft, compared to ~96% heavier traditional tile) means no structural reinforcement is needed and the roof won't sag under seasonal load. The four-way interlocking system prevents water from penetrating seams as ice melts. Snow guards can be installed to manage avalanche-shedding if desired. The sloped design and metal's thermal conductivity work together to prevent the prolonged ice dam cycles that damage wood and asphalt in freeze-thaw-prone regions.
Are interlocking metal panels strong enough to withstand Chicago-area wind gusts?
Yes. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. Woodlawn's typical daily-max winds average roughly 25 km/h, with gusts recorded around 95 km/h—well within that safety margin. The interlocking system distributes wind load across all panels simultaneously, rather than letting wind peel up individual shingles. The ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 (reissued 2025) confirms that installation follows IBC/IRC wind-resistance codes for Cook County. This redundancy means insurance companies often recognize metal roofing's structural integrity in hail and wind-prone regions.
Will hail damage void my roof warranty or increase my insurance costs?
Interlock's UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—means the panels survive the toughest hail scenarios. The warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Because aluminum distributes impact energy across the interlocked system rather than cracking like slate or asphalt, homeowners with aluminum metal roofs often qualify for insurance discounts that offset a portion of the installation cost. Woodlawn's climate includes seasonal thunderstorms, so impact durability matters. Unlike traditional roofing, where hail damage can trigger costly repairs or premature replacement, Interlock panels retain their structural integrity across repeated storms over a 50+ year timespan.
Do I need to reinforce my house's structure for a metal roof, or can it install over my existing roof?
No reinforcement is needed. Interlock panels are extraordinarily light—the Mediterranean Tile profile weighs approximately 0.59 lb/sq ft, making it about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. This allows installation directly over most existing asphalt shingle roofs without structural upgrades. The lightweight design also means fewer fasteners, shorter installation timelines, and lower labor costs. Woodlawn homes built in older neighborhoods can often skip expensive framing reinforcement that traditional tile would demand. The four-way interlocking system distributes the minimal weight evenly across rafters. A qualified local installer will assess your existing deck and advise on any underlayment needs, but in the vast majority of cases, aluminum roofing simply bolts down over what's already there.
What's the real cost difference between a metal roof and asphalt over 30, 50, or 70 years?
Asphalt roofs typically last 15–25 years and require costly tear-offs and landfill disposal every cycle; metal roofing installs once and outlasts 3+ asphalt replacements. Over 60 years, the asphalt-to-landfill cycle costs far more in labor, disposal, and repeated material purchases than a single aluminum installation, especially when the transferable lifetime limited warranty (50 years to the next owner) is factored in. Woodlawn's freeze-thaw cycling (69 days per year) accelerates asphalt degradation; aluminum resists it. The Guardian warranty is NON-prorated for the original owner, meaning repair or replacement after year 40 doesn't cost extra. Energy savings from energy-efficient colors (reflectance up to 0.55) also reduce summer cooling bills in humid Cook County climates.
Do reflective metal roofs actually save money on cooling in Illinois summers?
Yes. energy-efficient Interlock colors have thermal emissivity of 0.84 and solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny), meaning they reflect heat that dark asphalt absorbs. In Woodlawn's climate, with roughly 3094 sunshine hours per year, this reflectance reduces the solar heat gain transmitted into the attic, lowering air-conditioning demand during warm months. Cool Roof Rating Council certification confirms the performance. The energy savings accumulate over decades—every summer without excess heat load means lower utility bills and reduced strain on HVAC equipment. While Woodlawn's mean temperature is cool (10.5°C annually), seasonal sun exposure still matters, and even a few degrees of cooling savings compound significantly over the 50+ year lifespan of an Interlock roof.
Who installs Interlock metal roofing in Woodlawn, and how long has the company been in business?
Interlock Metal Roofing has served the Woodlawn and Cook County region since 2001—over 20 years of installations in this exact climate. The company understands local code compliance (ICC-ES ESR-1790, reissued 2025, covers IBC/IRC standards), manages snow loads, hail exposure, and freeze-thaw cycles specific to northern Illinois. Local installers handle warranty service, inspections, and maintenance advice without shipping parts or delays. A homeowner working with an experienced local team gains confidence in the installation quality and the Guardian lifetime warranty claim process. The 2001 founding date also means these installers have retrofit homes across Woodlawn through multiple weather cycles and can speak to real-world durability observed in the neighborhood.
How is a metal roof better for the environment than asphalt shingles?
Aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable at end-of-life, meaning an Interlock roof can return to manufacturing loops rather than landfills. Asphalt shingles, by contrast, are torn off every 15–25 years and buried. Over a 60-year timeline, one aluminum roof replaces three asphalt tear-offs—three landfill burdens avoided. The 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 aluminum alloy is also infinitely recyclable without degradation; melted-down old panels become new panels or other products. Woodlawn homeowners committed to reducing waste choose aluminum to break the disposable-roofing cycle. The CALGreen-verified reduced-maintenance design also means fewer chemicals, sealants, and repairs over the roof's lifetime compared to asphalt. A single Interlock installation eliminates the material consumption and transportation carbon of multiple asphalt replacements.
Is a metal roof a good choice for Woodlawn’s climate?
Yes. Woodlawn averages about 73 cm of snow, 1024 mm of rain, roughly 69 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 95 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
