What our customers are saying:
We had our roofed replaced by Interlock Roofing in 2016. One of the best decisions we’ve ever made! Our roof looks like slate shingles but is entirely metal. We e received many compliments on it over the years Recently we had a lot of strong wind and hailstorms and our representative, John Mondeshean, checked in with us to see if we sustained any roof damage. He came out and inspected our roof for us within a day or two. Luckily we didn’t have any damage. I’ve been impressed by this company and their product from day one. John is the consummate professional. Our roof is now 10 years old and I still say it was the best investment! Highly recommend!
Very heavy investment, but worth every cent! I worked with John and he was very mindful in planning everything out- especially the finer details of what was needed for the house and for the project. His crew was spectacular in their workmanship and friendliness. The only minor issue I had was the scheduling of the project- which is of nobody's fault. Things get done when they get done and those who are waiting, will be happy they waited. Not exaggerating, many customers will be quite pleased with the end result. I'm one of them. Many thanks, John, crew & Interlock!
Not only was the sales process easy, the installation guys were very respectful of my neighbors and my comfort while they were working. Now that it’s done I absolutely love the roof. It’s already made a huge difference in my electric use for cooling the house!
We are so proud of our new roof. It is so cool looking, it adds a great deal to the curb-appeal of our house. I also appreciate the security of knowing I'll never have to replace it or worry about it in even the strongest winds. I used to lose shingles in strong windstorms. Interlock was easy to work with. The workers were very respectful of my property and were meticulous about clean up after.
This project has been a roller coaster: First they were doing a good job, then not, then they assured us of the results and things looked good until we questioned something and they completely dropped the ball. They took our money and never followed up. Communication by Allen Gessell seems to be the weak link. He was horrible and ghosted us. It is a HUGE SHAME that what could have been a wonderful situation has become a fearful nightmare!
I'm really excited and pleased with the roof. I love everything about it in terms of color, style, and installation. Everything was done to our utmost satisfaction. Interlock Roofing could have improved the price. The price was expensive. It was a fantastic experience.
Scheduling
I think Interlock Roofing could have improved on the timing and having more flexibility in terms of when the project starts.
Communication on delivery and actual start time
The entire team (from sales to installation) was very clear regarding the timeline and next steps for the entire project. The end product looks great and is a vast improvement compared to the appearance of our prior roof. Good clear communication. No issues on my end.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in West Loop
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in West Loop, Illinois. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in West Loop.
Will a metal roof handle Chicago's freeze-thaw cycles without cracking or warping?
Yes — aluminum's crystalline structure doesn't crack under repeated freeze-thaw stress the way wood shingles, concrete tile, or asphalt do. West Loop experiences about 69 freeze-thaw days per year, cycling between wet snow and thaw. The roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) expands and contracts uniformly without developing weak points. Unlike asphalt that becomes brittle in cold, or tile that fractures, aluminum stays flexible. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating on both sides prevents water intrusion into panel seams, so moisture never gets trapped to create ice damage from inside.
How does Interlock handle heavy snow loads and ice dams in West Loop winters?
Cook County averages about 73 cm of snow yearly — Interlock's four-way interlocking panels lock together so tightly that snow can't work its way under the seams as it does with asphalt or standing-seam roofs. Each panel is extraordinarily light; the Shake profile weighs only 0.58 lb/sq ft, so no structural reinforcement is needed and snow doesn't load your home dangerously. Ice dams form when heat escapes unevenly; metal's high thermal conductivity actually works with proper attic ventilation to prevent pooling. Optional snow guards can be installed where code requires. The warranty covers wind gusts up to 120 mph, protecting against the aggressive conditions that often follow heavy snow.
Can a metal roof really shed rain as well as asphalt shingles?
Heavy rainfall — West Loop gets about 1024 mm per year — sits on asphalt; it runs off metal without penetrating. The four-way interlocking design means water flows down and out through the seams rather than pooling on them. Each panel locks into its neighbors on all four sides, so water is mechanically blocked from traveling backward under the overlap. Installed over a solid deck with ICC-ES-approved (ESR-1790) underlayment, the system performs like asphalt roofing in heavy rain but without asphalt's porosity. We've installed Interlock from coastal salt-air homes to an Antarctic research station — leak protection is built into the panel geometry, not dependent on sealants that degrade.
Isn't metal roofing at risk of rust in the Midwest?
Only if it's steel. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209), which contains no iron — aluminum cannot rust. When scratched, aluminum's oxide layer self-heals chemically, and the Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish (warranted 30 years against fading per ASTM D4214) provides a second barrier. Steel roofing corrodes in wet climates like West Loop's 1024 mm annual rainfall; aluminum thrives. The same aluminum panels have been installed in coastal salt-air environments and near the Antarctic, where corrosion conditions are far harsher than Illinois. Your roof won't develop the rust stains that eventually weaken steel or the oxidation that blackens asphalt.
Will a metal roof blow off in Chicago-area wind storms?
No — the four-way interlocking panels are engineered so each panel mechanically locks into its neighbors on all sides, creating a unified roof assembly that resists the upward forces that peel asphalt or loose standing-seam panels. Interlock is warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. West Loop's typical daily-max winds average about 25 km/h with gusts near 95 km/h — well within the roof's rated capacity. The interlocking geometry distributes wind load across the entire panel matrix rather than concentrating force on a few fasteners. Installation crews use structural fasteners at strategic points; the panel-to-panel locks do the holding. Even in severe gusts, the system acts as one piece.
Will hail damage a metal roof, and can I get an insurance discount?
Interlock carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating — the highest available — and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Class 4 means the roof withstands repeated 2-inch steel ball drops without permanent damage. Many insurance carriers recognize this non-negotiable rating and offer premium discounts for metal roofs with UL 2218 Class 4, especially in hail-prone regions. Contact your agent with the UL 2218 certification. Asphalt roofs receive hail damage routinely; metal with Class 4 rating is considered loss-resistant. Given West Loop's annual thunderstorm activity, the durability profile and potential insurance savings make metal roofing a financial advantage, not a risk.
How long will a metal roof last, and what does the warranty actually cover?
Interlock carries a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance — the named failure modes that end other roofs. Non-prorated means if a panel fails on year 25, there's no deductible or percentage reduction. The warranty transfers once to the next owner for 50 years from completion, adding real value at resale. Asphalt lasts 15–25 years; wood splits and rots in West Loop's 69 annual freeze-thaw cycles; concrete tile cracks. The Alunar coating alone is warranted 30 years against fading (ASTM D2244 measured), protecting the roof's appearance for decades. Combined with aluminum's inability to rust and the ICC-ES structural evaluation (ESR-1790), this is the last roof you'll buy.
Do I need to reinforce my roof structure for a metal roof?
No structural reinforcement required — Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft, roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Even the heavier Shake at 0.58 lb/sq ft is feather-light compared to slate or traditional tile. Most homes can accommodate the weight of a metal roof over existing asphalt without touching the frame. This matters in West Loop, where older homes often have wooden trusses that have already settled under decades of asphalt load. Metal roofing installs directly over most existing roofs, avoiding costly tear-off and disposal fees. The ICC-ES evaluation report (ESR-1790) confirms installation over existing roof assemblies. You get the visual and durability of premium materials — slate, shake, tile — without the structural debt.
Will a metal roof actually reduce my cooling costs in summer?
Yes — energy-efficient colors on Interlock panels have thermal emissivity up to 0.84 and solar reflectance up to 0.55 (measured on Aged Copper Penny), meaning they reflect heat that asphalt absorbs and radiates into your attic. West Loop receives about 3094 sunshine hours per year; that reflected heat reduces cooling load in summer. Cool Roof Rating Council rated for performance verification. Asphalt absorbs solar radiation and heats your attic by 30–50°F on sunny days, driving air-conditioning costs. Metal roofing doesn't eliminate cooling costs, but measured studies show 10–25% reduction in peak cooling demand depending on color and attic ventilation. The coating is warranted 30 years, so the reflectivity performance doesn't degrade. Over a 50-year roof life, energy savings compound.
Who installs Interlock roofing in West Loop, and how long have they been in business?
Interlock Metal Roofing has been serving the West Loop and greater Cook County region since 2001 — over two decades of installations through Chicago's seasonal extremes. The local installer understands West Loop's freeze-thaw cycling (69 days annually), snow load (about 73 cm per year), and the older residential and light-commercial building stock. They're familiar with local building departments, permit requirements, and the engineering specifics of installing over existing roofs without structural modification. Factory-trained on all five profiles — Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, Mediterranean Tile — and ICC-ES compliant installation methods (ESR-1790). Call them for a no-obligation site evaluation. A local crew that knows your neighborhood's roof conditions and has installed hundreds of systems nearby reduces surprises and ensures proper warranty compliance.
Is a metal roof a good choice for West Loop’s climate?
Yes. West Loop averages about 73 cm of snow, 1024 mm of rain, roughly 69 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 95 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
