Review: July 19, 2021 Completion: August 14, 2019

Positive: Professionalism, Punctuality, Quality, Responsiveness, Value To Potential Interlock Customer: We intentionally waited almost two years to write a review (roof replaced in August 2019). Replacing a roof (whether asphalt or Interlock) is an expensive project, and we felt it was important to have the perspective of someone who has experience with the Interlock roof for 2 years. Our house is an old colonial built in about 1890. It is almost 3200 square feet with an attic that could be converted to a third floor. We also have an L-shaped wrap-around porch at the front of the house. I am very familiar with the effort it takes to replace a roof, as I have helped re-roof five different houses, including my own. I did this with the help of several friends, putting a layer of asphalt shingles on my house about 20 years ago. However, after 20 years, I had shingles beginning to fail and lost a couple during wind storms. I had a couple of asphalt shingle contractors look at the house for an estimate. One never provided a quote. The second refused the work because my house is 34 feet at the peak, and he felt it was too tall for him to work on. Michael Baldarassi came to our house in June 2019. I found him to be extremely knowledgeable about the construction of old houses and correctly identified that the gable ends would need repair as it was common to not fully extend roof boards to the gable end. He explained the product extremely well, and we were happy to choose the black, " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">slate-looking tiles for our roof. The work team started in the second week of August on a bright sunny, " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hot week. My roof needed to be stripped to the boards, and I was amazed at how quickly they dealt with the very hot asphalt shingles. It is an extremely hard-working team, and it was to the point that I wanted to tell them to take breaks. Sheets of plywood were carried up to the roof, gable ends were repaired, and several spots needed repair prior to installing the Interlock shingles. They did an excellent installation, along with cleanup and the weather-supported completion in 5 days. We immediately started receiving compliments from townspeople who thought we were having a slate roof put on. The roof definitely adds appeal to our house. Our experience with the Interlock roof has been outstanding. I no longer worry during the strong winds of winter. Having the snow slide off the roof has been a big benefit. Our first snowstorm in December 2019 was 20 inches. It was predicted to be followed by rain four days later. For the past 20 years, I have had to go out onto the wrap-around porch roof to shovel it off so that the 20 inches of snow with rain on it wouldn’t overload the porch. Not with Interlock. The snow had slid off during the snowstorm and before the rain, so no more shovelling the roof. I love not having to stand on a snowy roof shovelling anymore. Having the snow slide off has other benefits. It removed tons of weight from the snow on the roof. That snow weight does nothing good for a house. I used to have minor changes in door fitting, etc., during the winter, but that has stopped because the snow weight on the roof is gone. Additionally, no snow on the roof means no icicles. As one side of my house faces the sun all day, there are winters where if it is 10F and sunny for several days, massive icicles form that weigh hundreds of pounds. These become dangerous when they unexpectedly drop. Icicles do not happen when there is no snow on the roof. Our Interlock roof has been a fantastic choice, and it has added to the value of our house. One day when we sell our house, I have no doubt that our Interlock roof will help to attract a buyer, and the price of the roof will likely be recouped in part or all. What is a big question a potential homebuyer has? - how old is the roof? Being able to answer with a 50-year " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">warranty that can be transferred to one buyer will bring a lot of weight to the sale. The warranty gives us peace of mind that the roof will never worry us again. Thank you again, Interlock. Service: Roof installation

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Porter

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Porter, Maine. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Porter.

Does a metal roof handle Porter's heavy snow load without ice dams?

Yes. With about 178 cm of snow annually, ice dams form when heat escapes through the roof. Metal's smooth, interlocking surface sheds snow and ice more readily than asphalt, and the panels' light weight (the Shingle installs at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means no structural reinforcement is needed even in the heaviest years. Install snow guards if you prefer controlled snow release, and you'll eliminate the ice-dam cycle that typically drives repeated gutter and soffit damage in Maine winters.

How does aluminum hold up to Porter's freeze-thaw cycles?

Aluminum thrives in freeze-thaw climates. With about 99 freeze-thaw days per year in your area, materials that absorb water—like asphalt, wood, and concrete—expand and contract, crack, and fail. Aluminum is non-porous and contains no iron, so it cannot rust or rot. Its oxide layer self-heals when scratched, giving you a surface that actually becomes more stable under Porter's freeze-thaw stress. That's why Interlock has installed panels from coastal salt-air homes to an Antarctic research station.

Can a metal roof survive Porter's winter wind gusts?

Absolutely. Porter sees typical wind gusts around 105 km/h, and Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to spec. The interlocking design distributes force across multiple panels rather than relying on fasteners to anchor individual shingles. That means your roof won't lift or flutter in the gusts that regularly sweep through Oxford County, and your warranty covers wind damage up to that 120 mph threshold.

With 934 mm of rain yearly, how does metal roofing prevent leaks?

The four-way interlocking panels overlap on all sides, so water cannot channel sideways or back up under a panel the way it does with loose-lay shingles. With Porter receiving about 934 mm of rain per year, plus 178 cm of snow and ice melt, overlap is everything. When installed over a solid deck with proper underlayment, the system acts as a continuous shed: water runs down and off, never pooling or finding a seam. Asphalt shingles rely on sealant strips that degrade; metal interlocks do not.

Does a metal roof qualify for insurance breaks if hail damage is rare in Porter?

Metal roofing's UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—may qualify you for insurance discounts, even if hail is uncommon in Porter. Class 4 means the panels have been tested to resist hailstones up to 1.5 inches, and Interlock's warranty even covers perforation from stones at that size. When you combine Class 4 impact resistance with the lifetime limited material warranty, insurers see lower claim risk. Ask your agent whether switching to Interlock metal roofing triggers a premium reduction; many carriers recognize the reduced vulnerability.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost versus asphalt over the long run?

Metal is the last roof you buy. Asphalt typically lasts 15–20 years; you'll tear it off and send it to landfill, then start over. Interlock carries a lifetime limited material warranty for the original owner and one-time transferable coverage giving the next owner 50 years from completion. The 30-year coating warranty (ASTM D4214 measured) protects against chalking and fading. When you add no tear-off cycle, one installation instead of three or four, and zero maintenance, metal's upfront cost becomes a one-time investment rather than a cycle of replacements. The financing promotion—no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation—brings that value within immediate reach.

What exactly does Interlock's lifetime warranty cover?

The Guardian warranty is a lifetime limited material warranty (non-prorated for the original owner) covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It's one-time transferable: the next owner receives 50 years of coverage from completion, adding enormous resale appeal. The Alunar coating specifically carries a 30-year protection warranty against chalking and fading. Because aluminum cannot rust and panels integrate four-way interlocking (no seam separation), the coverage rarely gets tested—most owners simply never experience the failures that void other roofing warranties.

Do I really need to maintain a metal roof, or can I just leave it alone?

Metal roofs require virtually no maintenance. Asphalt shingles need sealant reapplication every few years, wood shakes split and need replacement, and tile cracks and shifts. Aluminum cannot rot, split, or curl; the four-way interlocking design eliminates seam failure; and the Alunar 70% PVDF coating resists weathering for 30 years. Porter's 3049 annual sunshine hours and 178 cm of snow will naturally wash the roof clean. You'll save thousands over the roof's lifetime on gutter cleaning, shingle replacement, and sealant maintenance that asphalt and wood demand. That's why Interlock's roofing is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance.

Will a metal roof cool my home in summer or just add heat?

Metal roofs reflect heat away, not into your home. energy-efficient Interlock colors have thermal emissivity of 0.84 and initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 (in Aged Copper Penny, for example), meaning they bounce back the sun's energy instead of absorbing it like asphalt. While Porter averages about 3049 sunshine hours yearly—less than warmer climates—every hour of reflection reduces cooling load and air-conditioning run time. Cool Roof Rating Council certification confirms measurable energy savings. Over a 50-year lifespan, the difference in cooling costs and reduced carbon footprint compounds significantly, especially as cooling seasons lengthen.

Who installs Interlock metal roofing in the Porter area?
