I would have preferred a crew from Interlock supervising the subcontractors. That way I could have gone to them and asked them to stay on top of the subcontractor's cleanliness

I am unlikely to recommend Interlock to a friend. I found the sales representative, Jonathan Brown, highly deceptive when pricing the deal. That is simply unacceptable. I did find the installation crew hard working and organized. They did a good job and I appreciated that. I didn't get the idea that there was a lot of supervision, though and some of the installation problems that came up at the end reflected that. I still have some questions about the work. They should provide a port-potty for the crew.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in West Side

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in West Side, New Hampshire. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in West Side.

How does a metal roof handle West Side's 117 cm of annual snow?

Metal roofing sheds snow efficiently because the interlocking four-way aluminum panels create a smooth, continuous surface without the adhesion points where asphalt shingles trap ice. West Side's typical wind gusts to 107 km/h naturally help clear accumulated snow. The panels themselves are load-rated and won't crack, split, or degrade under freeze-thaw cycling—something that matters when your region experiences about 98 freeze-thaw days per year. Snow guards can be added if you prefer controlled melting. Aluminum never becomes brittle in cold, unlike some roofing materials.

Will freeze-thaw cycles damage an aluminum metal roof in New Hampshire?

No. Aluminum's molecular structure means it expands and contracts uniformly without cracking, splitting, or developing stress fractures—even with 98 freeze-thaw cycles annually in West Side. The roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloys (ASTM B209) are engineered for exactly this climate stress. After 25+ years of installations across North America's harshest winters, Interlock's panels show zero degradation from thermal cycling. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating, warranted 30 years against chalking and fading, remains flexible in cold, so it doesn't crack or peel as temperatures drop to freezing.

Can an aluminum roof rust or corrode in New Hampshire's wet climate?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. Instead, it forms a thin oxide layer that actually protects the base metal and self-heals when scratched—a property unique to aluminum. With West Side averaging 1007 mm of annual rainfall and common freeze-thaw exposure, this is critical: the Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish applied to both sides of every panel provides an extra 30-year warranty against degradation. The same coating formula protects Interlock installations in coastal salt-air environments and an Antarctic research station, meaning your roof handles moisture and seasonal wet-dry cycles without the vulnerability of steel or the rot risk of wood-shake alternatives.

Will a metal roof blow off in New Hampshire wind storms?

No. West Side's typical wind gusts reach 107 km/h, and Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist sustained winds up to 120 mph (193 km/h)—well above your region's historical extremes. The interlocking system creates a unified panel structure that distributes wind load across the entire roof rather than straining individual fasteners. This UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated design has proven itself from coastal hurricane zones to mountain ridge-lines. When installed to spec by a trained installer like Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc., the panels remain secure even during gusts that could damage asphalt shingles or lift conventional tile.

How much maintenance does a metal roof actually need compared to asphalt or wood?

Interlock aluminum roofing requires zero structural maintenance—no re-nailing, no seasonal patch repairs, and no replacement of damaged or curled shingles. Asphalt and wood both demand regular inspections, repairs, and eventual major sections replaced within 15-25 years. Metal needs only occasional debris clearing (leaves, light snow) and an optional rinse every few years if desired. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating won't chalk or fade for 30 years, so color stays true through West Side's 3018 annual sunshine hours. The CALGreen-verified rating confirms reduced maintenance burden. Over a 50-year ownership span, this translates to lower labor costs and fewer contractor visits than traditional materials.

Does heavy rain leak through metal roof seams in wet climates?

No. West Side receives about 1007 mm of annual rainfall, and the four-way interlocking design means water is directed downward and outward by the panel geometry itself—not held on the surface. Each panel's interlocking edges overlap in four directions, creating a cascade that prevents standing water and lateral seepage. When installed over a solid deck with recommended underlayment, Interlock roofing achieves the same leak-free performance as asphalt at a fraction of the long-term maintenance cost. Metal roofing has zero porous material; water cannot absorb into the panels as it does with wood shake or asphalt, which both degrade and eventually fail in heavy-rain cycles. Proper installation is key, and our local installer has 25+ years of West Side experience.

Do I need to reinforce my roof structure for a metal roof?

No structural reinforcement is required. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile installs at just 0.59 lb/sq ft—approximately 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—while delivering the architectural look. The Slate, Shingle, and Shake profiles weigh even less (0.41-0.58 lb/sq ft). This extreme lightness means the roof can be installed directly over most existing asphalt, eliminating the tear-off cost and landfill burden. Your home's framing already supports traditional roofing, and metal weighs so much less that it reduces overall structural stress. ICC-ES evaluation ESR-1790 confirms code compliance for residential installation without reinforcement. This advantage matters in West Side where winter snow loads and moisture accumulation require durability without adding dead load.

Is a metal roof a good value compared to asphalt over 50 years?

Yes—metal becomes less expensive over time. Asphalt costs less upfront but fails every 15-25 years, triggering tear-off labor, disposal fees, and reinstallation. Interlock's Guardian Warranty is lifetime limited (non-prorated material, original owner) and one-time transferable to the next owner for 50 years from completion. Factor in that metal requires zero repair cycles, minimal maintenance, and no replacement across five decades, and the total installed cost becomes significantly lower than 2-3 asphalt cycles. Current financing is available: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation. After 50 years, asphalt buyers have discarded three roofs; metal roof owners still have their original investment intact.

Is metal roofing actually more sustainable than asphalt shingles?

Yes. Interlock aluminum roofing is approximately 95% recyclable, and at end-of-life (far beyond 50 years), the entire roof goes back into the aluminum supply chain rather than to landfill. Every asphalt replacement cycle in West Side—about every 20 years—sends tons of shingles to landfills, accumulating across neighborhoods and communities. Metal eliminates this waste pattern entirely. Because the panels are so lightweight (0.41-0.59 lb/sq ft) and install over existing roofs, there's zero tear-off debris on your first installation. The CALGreen-verified rating acknowledges the reduced environmental footprint. Choosing metal today means your home's roof won't contribute to the estimated 20 million tons of asphalt shingle waste generated annually across North America.
