Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Mist, Oregon
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
It was definitely worth it in the long run, I don't understand why everyone doesn't have one of these roofs for safety with the chance of fire in our area. The crew did a great job.
Other than a material delay due to an incorrect measurement, that was indeed handled quickly and well communicated, I can’t think of anything that would require improvement. Damon even answered my call while he was vacationing! The installation crew was quick, efficient and helpful when they suggested a better material for the bay window... very very happy with the whole experience!! We love our roof! It’s quiet even with all our rain and I love knowing we don’t fill up the landfill with the aged composite roof on our home! Best roof for us! Great company to work with! The off-season install was perfect.
Communication from office staff on installation date. Evidently my office person went on maternity leave and there was no one to back her up or to retrieve her phone messages or her email. Had to call our wonderful Sales rep to get any updates.
Being on time with schedule would have been nice. Plus the communication was a total fail
Multiple people have complimented the roof and how quickly it was put on. I didn't pick the roof for the looks, I picked it for the functionality. The beauty of it is breathtaking.
The project was delayed due to shipping. The product could have been shipped a week earlier. That cost a day. The sales man said it would take a day to install.....took three days. Those days, I took off from work. You owe me three days. Or at least two.
I would point out the issues I have with mine and suggest correction to a new customer. A supervisor never visited the worksite during work hours.
Sales Dept could be better and finance Dept could be better communicators and follow.
We love the look of the new roof and interlock was easy to work with. I’m especially impressed with the installation crew. Very efficient! We are very happy with the whole process.
they were spot on will everything would recommend this company to anyone
The customer service is a little lacking. They could have improved their customer service for our project. The final product is great. The field team was great. I think they bit off more than they could chew with the housing boom and got overbooked. The roof is great, though!

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Mist
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Mist, Oregon. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Mist.
How does a metal roof handle Mist's heavy snow, and do I need snow guards?
Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels shed snow effectively and carry full snow-load ratings under ICC-ES ESR-1790 certification for Oregon's climate. With about 55 cm of snow per year and 22 freeze-thaw days, Mist roofs face repeated ice-dam conditions that metal's smooth surface resists better than asphalt. Snow guards are optional, depending on roof pitch and your local building code; your Interlock installer will specify what's needed during the site assessment.
Does a metal roof leak in heavy rain? Mist gets 1800+ mm annually.
No; Interlock's interlocking design and solid deck installation create a watertight system. The four-way lock means water flows off before it enters seams. Mist receives roughly 1805 mm of rain yearly—well above national averages—yet metal roofing has zero inherent leak risk from rainfall volume when installed to spec. Paired with proper underlayment and drainage, you get better leak protection than asphalt.
Will a metal roof rust in Mist's wet climate?
Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209), which contains no iron and therefore cannot rust. When exposed to moisture or scratches, aluminum's oxide layer self-heals, making it ideal for Mist's wet climate and occasional gusty conditions (up to 97 km/h). The Alunar® 70% PVDF coating adds a 30-year fade and chalk warranty. Steel roofs rust; aluminum doesn't.
What warranty does Interlock offer, and how long will the roof last?
The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner and transferable for 50 years to the next owner—the longest residential roof term available. It covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, and impact loss. No asphalt roof offers this. Given Mist's 22 annual freeze-thaw cycles that stress traditional materials, aluminum's proven durability since 1998 ensures you'll own this roof for life.
Can my house support a metal roof, or do I need structural work?
Interlock aluminum is extraordinarily light—the Slate and Cedar Shingle profiles install at roughly 0.41 lb/sq ft, and even the Mediterranean Tile profile weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft, approximately 96% lighter than real tile or concrete. This means no structural reinforcement is needed, and Interlock installs directly over most existing roofs in Mist. Structural cost savings compound your installation savings.
How does Interlock stand up to Mist's winter gusts and storms?
The four-way interlocking panel system and the 120 mph wind-speed warranty handle Mist's typical gusts of 97 km/h and occasional severe weather. Panels lock in all four directions, distributing wind load evenly and preventing edge lift or panel separation. Combined with ICC-ES ESR-1790 code compliance and UL 2218 Class 4 hail impact resistance, Interlock delivers confidence through seasons that stress conventional roofing.
Is metal roofing worth the upfront cost over asphalt in Mist?
Yes; metal's lifetime non-prorated warranty eliminates the two-to-three asphalt replacements most homeowners face. Mist's 1805 mm annual rainfall and 22 freeze-thaw days accelerate asphalt degradation. Metal costs more initially but is genuinely your last roof purchase. The Guardian Warranty transfers 50 years to the next owner, protecting resale value. Interlock's current promotion—no payments and no interest until Spring 2027—removes financing barriers.
Can metal roofing look like slate, wood, or tile?
Yes. Interlock offers five profiles: Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, and Mediterranean Tile. Each replicates traditional aesthetics using four-way interlocking aluminum panels coated with Alunar® 70% PVDF finish, available in multiple colors. All profiles deliver the same rust-free durability and lightweight advantage. Choose the look you want and the performance you need without compromising either.
Is metal roofing actually better for the environment?
Interlock aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable at end of life, ending the asphalt tear-off-to-landfill cycle that repeats every 15–25 years. Over a 50+ year ownership span in Mist, you'll generate zero roofing waste. The lightweight design and lower manufacturing footprint than slate, tile, or concrete further reduce environmental impact. Sustainability here is measurable, not marketing.
Who installs Interlock roofing in Mist, Oregon, and how long have they served the area?
Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. has served Columbia County since 1997 and specializes in residential and commercial installations throughout the region. They handle everything from site assessment and material selection through final inspection. Their two-decade local presence and Interlock's 1998-to-present manufacturing history in Delta, BC mean combined expertise and accountability. Current financing—no payments, no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation—is available through them.
Is a metal roof a good choice for Mist’s climate?
Yes. Mist averages about 55 cm of snow, 1805 mm of rain, roughly 22 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 97 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
