Sloppy clean up. Numerous materials left in yard and driveway including an empty tube of sealant, an empty soda can, pieces of roofing materials, and nails and screws left in drive way. I just hope I have found all of them.

The work crew made a good effort to clean up at completion, but I have found, and occasionally find more nails in the perimeter. This is significant since the drive way goes around the house and is close to the house and roof edge. Approximately 40% of the drive is paved and the rest is packed crushed stone. The remaining nails were easier to spot on the paved portion, but were on the surroundings or catch areas. In the stone section, the nails and small debris tend to blend in or get mixed in the stone. The crew did a good general job, but finding all the nails is hard. I've made several efforts to find the remaining nails to avoid finding them in a vehicle or mower tire. I would recommend a follow up sweep of the area with a magnetic sweeper.

Review: May 16, 2016Completion: August 18, 2021

It has been a year since I had my Interlock roof installed and I have meant to write this letter. I am glad I waited because I discovered additional advantages to the roof system by Interlock. I initially was impressed by the planning. Mr. Baldassari explained the roof, brought samples, how it would be installed on my house and interface with existing gutters. He also provided local addresses of Interlock roofs that I could view which was very helpful. During the planning process, he recommended changes I may not have thought of but would eliminate future costs and problems. In my case, he recommended the replacement of several failing skylights which I would purchase but be installed at no charge. The job went smoothly. The crew showed up early and stayed late, answered all my questions, leaving a clean, organized job site at the end of each day. The attention to detail was impressive. The house was a complex roof with several skylights, vents, and a masonry chimney. There was also a large barn and outbuilding, Demetri, one of the crew, reinstalled a large weathervane on the barn assuring me if he installed it, it would never come off. I was happy with the roof install. Since the installation, I have found additional benefits. Because my roof had not failed completely the Interlock roof was able to be installed over the existing roof eliminating the cost of strip off and keeping all the asphalt shingles out of the landfill. I also reduced my insurance risk; one of the considerations was the high wind rating. I live in a hurricane high wind zone for insurance coverage. The deductible was about equal to a new asphalt roof if I put a new conventional roof on replacement cost is not covered, and they prorate it and give you even less as the roof ages, so you basically have no roof insurance. I feel I do not have that problem now with the Interlock roof due to the high wind rating and " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">warranty. I have just retired, and this gives me a great peace of mind, a lifetime durable roof. I also lowered my insurance cost as now all buildings have a class “A” fire rating on the roof. The roof qualified for federal energy credits and meets “Energy Star” ratings, so I saved money on taxes. My energy costs are lower; the roof reflects summer heat keeping the attic cooler reducing air conditioning costs. My attic is vented to outside and uninsulated, so there is no advantage to heating. This roof also eliminates " title="ice dams" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">ice dams due to its design, and while many homes had ice dams and water damage to the interior of the house last winter, I had no formation of ice dams and no damage at all, an unexpected bonus. I do not notice any noise from rain or weather an initial concern I had. I live on a busy street and have people stop to compliment on the roof (aged " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">copper) and get information which I am happy to give. I have a more beautiful home, peace of mind, and will never have to re-roof.

Think Michael Baldassari should have checked in at start of Job to explain how job would progress and answer questions I had regarding the job. should have reviewed job midway, and when job is done.,gone over the work done and go over job and details that I the customer have to say is ok and sign for with a worker who barely speaks English. He took the money and contract and I never saw him again. This is a very expensive job and I expected a lot more contact with the Rep that sold me the job. I had a Morton building just put up that was almost as expensive as this roof and they were there for the whole process. I was left out to dry as soon as I gave mike a check which it appears is all he wanted (he also bragged about all the prizes and awards and trips he got for selling the roofs, guess that makes the roofs more expensive ehh... Nice roof.. may do my rental property next I'll have to get in touch with interlock

Review: August 12, 2012Completion: June 24, 2013

Dear Interlock: It has been a couple of months since the installation of my Interlock roof was completed, and two neighborhood endorsements have been forthcoming in that period. First, neighbors have commented about how good it looks, and second, they have commented on the daily cleanup done by the installation crew. I heartily endorse my neighbors’ comments. The cleanup factor really became evident shortly after when a conventional shingle roof was installed a few houses away by a local contractor. Materials were staged in front of the house rather than out of sight in the rear, and the place looked like a mess until the job was completed. As you are aware, the design of my house coupled with the prior construction of an addition across the length of the rear presented unusual challenges. While aluminum shingles could be used on the front, the slope of the back required an installation of Interlock’s membrane roof product. Further complicating the matter was a double roof in the rear with no ventilation of the void between the two roofs. Although you built a ventilation solution into the contract price, hidden construction issues once the work commenced on the rear necessitated redesigning the proposed ventilation solution. This could easily have been an opportunity for Interlock to take advantage of the situation, but the pricing of the change was handled by you and your office staff in a very fair manner. The extensive carpentry that became necessary did, I suspect, add the better part of a day to the job, yet the additional cost was nominal for the effort involved. As important as the pricing was to me, it was just as important and most gratifying to see the carpentry skills employed by the installation crew as they implemented the changes. The one concern my wife had in going with a metal roof was noise during a rainstorm, and some severe weather has shown that noise is not a problem. Also, as everyone is aware, July broke heat records, yet my home’s interior has been more comfortable thanks to the reflectivity of the roof. In conclusion, I am very pleased with the outcome.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Common Fence Point

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Common Fence Point, Rhode Island. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Common Fence Point.

Will a metal roof handle Rhode Island's freeze-thaw cycles?

Yes—aluminum actually thrives in freeze-thaw conditions. With about 64 freeze-thaw days per year in Newport County, your roof faces constant expansion and contraction, but aluminum's oxide layer self-heals when stressed, and it contains no iron so it cannot rust even when moisture gets into scratches. Asphalt and wood shingles crack and curl under the same cycling; aluminum flexes and recovers. The Alunar coating is warranted 30 years against the chalking and brittleness that cold causes in other materials.

How does metal roofing perform with Common Fence Point's heavy snow?

Metal roofs shed snow far faster than asphalt, reducing ice-dam risk during thaw cycles. Common Fence Point averages about 67 cm of snow annually, and with your 64 freeze-thaw days per year, that melt-and-refreeze pattern is relentless. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to 120 mph wind loads, and standing-seam profiles naturally channel meltwater down the seams—keeping it away from valleys where ice dams form. You can add optional snow guards if steeper pitches are a concern.

With 1210 mm of annual rain, how leak-proof is metal roofing?

Four-way interlocking panels create a nearly water-tight surface that actively sheds the 1210 mm of annual rainfall Common Fence Point receives. Unlike asphalt, which absorbs water, aluminum's smooth surface and tight panel joints prevent pooling and saturation. Install over a solid deck with an underlayment—standard practice by Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc.—and you get the same watertight seal as asphalt with zero rot risk. The Guardian warranty covers leaks from manufacturer defect, not installation error.

Why don't aluminum roofs rust like steel ones, especially near salt air?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—rust is iron oxide. Instead, aluminum forms a transparent oxide layer that self-heals when scratched, so salt spray on coastal Rhode Island actually triggers self-protection. Interlock's 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 roofing-grade aluminum is coated with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon on both sides, even the underside, for extra defense against salt-air corrosion. Steel roofs, by contrast, require constant maintenance and rust despite coatings. The Guardian warranty guarantees no rusting—period.

Can a metal roof stand up to Newport County's coastal wind gusts?

Yes. Your region sees typical gusts around 178 km/h, and Interlock's four-way interlocking panels are warranted to resist wind up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. That overlap means each panel locks into its neighbors—a gust has to lift the entire roof system, not peel individual shingles. The ICC-ES evaluation ESR-1790 confirms this performance under IBC/IRC codes. Asphalt shingles tear and lift at much lower speeds; once one goes, the rest follow.

Does a metal roof reduce hail damage and insurance costs?

Metal roofs rated UL 2218 Class 4—the highest impact rating available—often qualify for homeowner insurance discounts because they don't fail under hail. Interlock panels meet Class 4 and are warranted against perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Check with your insurer about discounts; many do offer them for metal roofs in high-hail regions. Your coastal Rhode Island location averages about 3103 sunshine hours yearly, so hail is less frequent than inland, but the protection still adds resale value and peace of mind.

Do I need to reinforce my roof structure for a metal roof?

No structural reinforcement is needed. The Interlock Mediterranean Tile profile, which mimics the weight of real clay or concrete tile, installs at only 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than actual tile. Even the Shake profile runs just 0.58 lb/sq ft. Most existing roofs can support metal without modification, and in some cases you can install directly over your old asphalt. This saves thousands in structural work compared to real slate, clay, or concrete tile, and it means the job is faster.

How much maintenance does a metal roof really need?

Very little. Metal roofs don't rot, split, curl, or lose granules the way asphalt, wood, and tile do. You don't pressure-wash a metal roof—that voids most warranties. Just let rain do the work; Common Fence Point's 1210 mm annual rainfall cleans it naturally. The CALGreen-verified design means minimal upkeep, no algae treatment, no wood preservative, no tile regrouting. The 30-year Alunar coating warranty means no re-coating expense. Compare that to asphalt shingles needing moss treatment or wood shingles needing staining every 5–7 years.

Is a metal roof more environmentally sound than asphalt?

Absolutely. Aluminum is about 95% recyclable; when your roof finally reaches end-of-life—likely decades from now—it goes back into the aluminum stream for cars, cans, or new roofing. Asphalt shingles, by contrast, are torn off every 15–20 years and sent to landfills by the hundreds of tons per region per year. Over a 50-year home life, you might replace asphalt 2–3 times; you install metal once. Interlock has shipped roofs since 1998 from coastal salt-air homes to Antarctica, so the material lasts. Zero tear-off cycle means zero landfill burden and zero re-installation labor.

Is metal roofing worth the upfront cost versus asphalt over time?

Yes, when you factor in lifecycle cost. Metal costs more upfront but eliminates the asphalt replacement cycle entirely. A typical asphalt roof costs $8,000–$12,000 and lasts 15–20 years; you'll replace it 2–3 times in 50 years. Metal costs more initially but comes with a lifetime limited warranty for the original owner and a 50-year transferable term for the next owner. Add zero re-roofing labor, zero maintenance chemicals, no insurance deductibles after hail (Class 4 rated), and potential utility savings from energy-efficiency reflective colors, and metal beats asphalt on total cost. Current promotion: no payments, no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Common Fence Point’s climate?

Yes. Common Fence Point averages about 67 cm of snow, 1210 mm of rain, roughly 64 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 178 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
