Review: August 8, 2017Completion: July 6, 2017

We had a little problem getting the materials delivered, and getting the scheduling figured out. We live in a rural location and the trucker that brought the materials didn't have a truck that was designed or authorized to go on the gravel road. we figured it out, but somewhere along the line, someone missed that detail. That could have delayed the project several days. Some of the roofing materials weren't installed as accurately as they should have been for roofing. The aluminum plates needed to be done more accurately, but they did come back and replace them, so we're good.

They were excellent but the price was highly non-competitive by double. The gentleman made an excellent presentation. My architect and I were extremely impressed. If they were a few thousand dollars less than I would have gone with them.

They could improve the clean-up by the crew. The scheduler and installation manager need to be on the same page. I am happy overall.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Cape George

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Cape George, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Cape George.

Can a metal roof rust in Cape George's coastal salt air and wet climate?

No. Interlock Metal Roofing is made from 3105-H24 aluminum alloy, which contains no iron and cannot rust. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating is applied to both sides of every panel—extra critical in salt-air environments—and is warranted for 30 years against chalking and fading. Even if scratched, aluminum forms a self-healing oxide layer. With Cape George averaging 1,078 mm of rain and 14 freeze-thaw days yearly, corrosion-free aluminum outperforms steel or treated wood.

How does a metal roof handle snow and ice in Cape George winters?

Metal roofs naturally shed snow and ice because water runs under accumulation rather than pooling. Cape George receives about 33 cm of snow annually, and the four-way interlocking panels resist warping and splitting that plague asphalt or wood in freeze-thaw cycles—your region sees 14 such days per year. Panel edges remain tight year-round. You can add snow guards if needed for ice-dam prevention, but the roof's rigid aluminum construction prevents the degradation that shingles experience when snow stays put.

Will a metal roof stay secure in Cape George's strong winds?

Yes. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to spec. Cape George experiences typical daily-max winds around 19 km/h with gusts reaching 138 km/h—within the roof's rated capacity. The interlocking geometry distributes wind load across the entire roof plane rather than relying on fasteners alone. Your certificate of compliance will reference ESR-1790 (IBC/IRC, 2025), confirming installation meets regional wind codes.

Do I need to reinforce my house structure for a metal roof?

No structural reinforcement is required. Interlock's aluminum panels weigh just 0.41 to 0.59 lb/sq ft depending on profile—the Mediterranean Tile is about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. This extraordinary lightness means the roof installs directly over most existing structures without adding load. Cape George's older coastal homes and newer builds alike can be roofed without framing upgrades, saving thousands on construction cost and allowing installation over existing roofs in many cases.

Can an aluminum roof help lower cooling costs in summer?

Yes, especially with energy-efficient colors. Interlock panels achieve thermal emissivity up to 0.84 and solar reflectance up to 0.55 in Aged Copper Penny, meaning they reflect heat that asphalt absorbs. Cape George receives about 3,042 annual sunshine hours. While coastal summers are mild, any reflective benefit adds up over decades—and Cool Roof Rating Council certification ensures the measurement is real, not marketing.

Will a metal roof protect against hail damage in my area?

Absolutely. Interlock Metal Roofing carries UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating, the highest available, and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. While Cape George's climate record does not emphasize severe hail, the Class 4 rating gives you protection that asphalt or wood cannot match. Many homeowners report insurance premium reductions for Class 4–rated roofs, though you should confirm with your provider.

How long will a metal roof last and what does the warranty actually cover?

The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It transfers once—the next owner receives 50 years from completion—making it a genuine multi-generational product. Installed properly in Cape George's 1,078 mm annual rainfall and moderate freeze-thaw cycles, aluminum panels outlast asphalt (20–25 years) by decades, ending the cycle of repeated tear-offs to landfill.

Does a metal roof need more maintenance than asphalt shingles?

No. Metal requires far less. Asphalt shingles in Cape George's wet climate (1,078 mm rain annually) suffer algae, curling, and granule loss; wood shakes split during 14 yearly freeze-thaw days. Aluminum panels resist all three. Gutters need cleaning like any roof, and moss prevention is a good habit in moist coastal areas, but there is no ongoing sealant reapplication, no nailing down of lifted shingles, and no UV degradation. CALGreen verification confirms the reduced maintenance burden.

Can a metal roof earn a Class A fire rating?

Yes. Interlock Metal Roofing is non-combustible aluminum and qualifies for Class A fire classification. This matters for coastal properties where wildfire risk, insurance costs, and resale perception are real concerns. ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 (IBC/IRC, 2025) confirms compliance. Non-combustible aluminum cannot support flame spread like asphalt or wood, providing peace of mind and potential insurance benefits in a region where coastal conditions can heighten fire risk.

Who installs Interlock Metal Roofing in Cape George and how long does it take?

Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. has served the region since 1997 and maintains a full-time installation team for Jefferson County and surrounding areas. Most residential roofs complete in 3–5 days, depending on pitch and size. The company can install over existing roofs in many cases, reducing waste and timeline. Current financing is available: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation. Contact the local office for a site visit and timeline estimate.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Cape George’s climate?

Yes. Cape George averages about 33 cm of snow, 1078 mm of rain, roughly 14 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 138 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
