What our customers are saying:

★★★★★
Review: August 1, 2017

To whom it may concern: We recently needed our old asphalt shingle roof replaced as it was damaged and leaking from recent storm damage. Reviewing our options, we decided on metal since we live on the beach. After looking at the different metal roofs available and looking at online reviews we decided on Interlock. We were not disappointed. The process was quick and the timeline discussed initially at purchase was met. The company kept us informed during the entire process. Our roof had an additional issue not seen with most roof replacements, it was covered with solar panels. Interlock coordinated the removal and then the reinstallation with our solar installer. The panels needed removing and then the mounting brackets needed to be reinstalled so as to keep the " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">warranty in force; all went well. I was out of town while some of the roofing was being done, when I returned the roof was completed and all that was needed was the final inspection. I was surprised by the look of the final product, while I had seen pictures the actual product looked much better. The roof looks like “slate” tile, it does not look “metal. We had comments on the roof by neighbors during and after installation and people at work have asked for more information. I highly recommend Interlock Metal Roof to anyone needing a new roof.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Poulsbo

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Poulsbo, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Poulsbo.

Why doesn't aluminum metal roofing rust like steel, and does that matter in Poulsbo's rainy climate?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron — the element that oxidizes and deteriorates in wet conditions. Instead, aluminum naturally forms a self-healing oxide layer that protects the metal underneath and actually repairs itself when scratched. With Poulsbo averaging about 1280 mm of rain annually and 21 freeze-thaw days per year, this passive protection means your roof stays structurally sound through decades of moisture exposure without the corrosion risk that affects steel or the decay that threatens wood shakes. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating adds a 30-year fade and chalking warranty on top of that inherent protection.

How does a metal roof handle Poulsbo's snow, ice, and freeze-thaw cycles?

Metal roofing sheds snow efficiently because its smooth interlocked panels and hard surface prevent snow from bonding and accumulating the way it does on asphalt shingles. Poulsbo receives about 33 cm of snow annually and experiences roughly 21 freeze-thaw cycles each year — conditions that crack wood shakes and split concrete tiles. Aluminum panels flex slightly under snow load without cracking, curling, or splitting, and the four-way interlocking seams prevent ice melt from wicking beneath panels. Optional snow guards can be installed if you prefer to control snow release. The warranty explicitly covers cracking and curling — two failure modes common in freeze-thaw climates.

Will my metal roof stay secure during Poulsbo's winter storms and coastal wind gusts?

Yes — the four-way interlocking aluminum panels are engineered to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification, and Kitsap County's typical gusts reach about 101 km/h. The interlocking seams create a unified structural system that prevents uplift and flutter; each panel locks mechanically to its neighbors rather than relying on fasteners alone. This design means your roof can handle the worst seasonal windstorms typical of the Puget Sound region without panel separation, rattling, or leakage. The warranty covers wind damage up to 120 mph, giving you confidence during the region's most severe weather.

Is my house strong enough to support a metal roof, or will I need expensive structural work?

Your existing structure almost certainly needs no reinforcement. Interlock's Slate profile weighs just 0.41 lb/sq ft, the Mediterranean Tile about 0.59 lb/sq ft — roughly 96% lighter than actual clay or concrete tile. This extraordinary lightness means the metal roof weighs far less than the asphalt shingles likely already on your home, so your framing, trusses, and foundation handle the load with ease. The roof can often install directly over your existing shingles, saving demolition costs and time. In Poulsbo's climate of moderate snow loads (about 33 cm annually) and typical wind gusts to 101 km/h, the lightweight design actually improves performance by reducing structural stress.

Does a metal roof really save energy, and will it help with heating costs in the Pacific Northwest?

energy-efficient Interlock colors reflect solar heat rather than absorbing it the way asphalt does, with thermal emissivity rated at 0.84 and initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 in colors like Aged Copper Penny. In Poulsbo's marine climate — averaging 2931 sunshine hours per year and temperatures around 11.3°C — reflective coatings reduce the cooling load during warmer months and can help balance indoor temperatures year-round. While Pacific Northwest winters are long and cloudy, the reflective finish prevents heat gain on sunny days and the solid aluminum doesn't trap heat like asphalt. Cool Roof Rating Council certification confirms these savings are real and measurable.

How does metal roofing hold up to hail, and could I see lower insurance rates?

Interlock metal roofing carries the highest impact rating available — UL 2218 Class 4 — and the warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. The non-combustible aluminum and rigorous impact testing often qualify homeowners for insurance discounts on both wind and hail coverage. In Kitsap County, where seasonal storms can be severe, this protection is peace of mind: your roof won't dent, crack, or split from impact the way asphalt, wood, or tile will. Check with your insurer about premium reductions; many carriers recognize the durability advantage and lower rates accordingly.

What warranty comes with an Interlock metal roof, and does it transfer if I sell?

The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for you as the original owner — it covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance with no degradation over time. If you sell your home, the warranty transfers once to the next owner for a full 50 years from completion, a substantial asset that increases buyer confidence. This structure reflects the reality that aluminum roofs outlast asphalt by decades. Combined with the 30-year coating warranty against fading and chalking, you're protected across the entire lifespan of the roof, and transferability adds real resale value to your property.

How much work is required to maintain a metal roof compared to asphalt or tile?

Metal roofing requires minimal maintenance — far less than asphalt, wood, or tile. There is no moss growth to pressure-wash, no shingles to seal or replace, and no wood rot or tile cracks to repair. Twice-yearly gutter cleaning and an occasional rinse in Poulsbo's rainy climate (averaging 1280 mm annually) will keep your roof looking new. Asphalt shingles need sealing, replacement of curled or missing pieces, and often fail within 15–20 years in wet climates; wood shakes split and rot; tile cracks in freeze-thaw cycles. The aluminum oxide layer is self-healing, and the Alunar fluorocarbon coating resists chalking and fading for 30 years. CALGreen verification confirms the reduced-maintenance advantage.

How long does it take to install a metal roof, and can it go over my existing shingles?

Installation timeline typically ranges from a few days to a week depending on roof size and complexity; Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. has served the region since 1997 and can give you a precise schedule. Because the panels are extraordinarily light — the Mediterranean Tile profile weighs only 0.59 lb/sq ft — installation can often proceed directly over your existing asphalt shingles without tear-off, saving time and disposal costs. A solid deck and underlayment ensure the roof is as quiet as traditional shingles in rain. The four-way interlocking seams mean each panel locks firmly in place, and the process minimizes disruption to your home and yard.

Is metal roofing really more environmentally responsible than asphalt shingles?

Yes — Interlock aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable, and the panels are designed for a 50+ year lifespan, eliminating the tear-off-and-landfill cycle that asphalt shingles create every 15–20 years. Poulsbo's 1280 mm of annual rainfall and freeze-thaw cycles accelerate asphalt failure, so homeowners replace those roofs frequently, multiplying landfill waste. Aluminum's non-corrosive nature and self-healing oxide layer mean the material itself lasts without degradation or replacement. When your metal roof finally reaches end-of-life, the aluminum can be melted down and reused indefinitely. This closed-loop sustainability contrasts sharply with asphalt, which cannot be reclaimed or remanufactured into new roofing.
