Review: October 14, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with interlock aluminum shingles and we love how it made our house stand out in our neighborhood. I would have given 5 stars but there were few things that I wanted to point out. Ross arrived on time and did an excellent presentation. I specifically asked him if their installers are contractors and his answer was no, they are employees of interlock. Turns out they are contractors which is no big deal as long as they do excellent work, it’s all about honesty. Prior to installation, the installers told me that it would take about two and a half days to finish which is great, I said no rush. The installation process took two weeks, I hope everything will go well this coming rainy season. The only thing I didn’t like was at the end of the day they leave their tools in the driveway just laying around and the worst they leave their microwave plugged into the outlet with damaged power cord. But with all things said, we love our new roof and only time will tell if it was worth the price.

Review: August 23, 2025

We recently had our roof replaced with aluminum shingles and are very satisfied so far. - Easy Sales Process – Thank you Ross for making everything clear and straightforward from the start. - Great Value – The price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. - Better Than Expected – The finished look exceeded our expectations and really improved the appearance of our home. It’s not as glossy as we feared, which we like. - Fast & Efficient – The crew worked quickly and finished everything in just 2 days for our ~1,000 sq. ft. house with two layers of old shingles. - No Issues – No noise at all, despite common concerns about metal roofs. Tip for others: Ask for the exact model and size of vents that will be installed before the project starts. Our vents were only a few months old but couldn’t be reused, and the ones the company brought were the wrong size. The crew had to buy replacements last minute, which worked but don’t perfectly match.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Sequim

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Sequim, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Sequim.

Why doesn't aluminum roofing rust like steel, and why does that matter in Sequim?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes and corrodes. Instead, aluminum develops a microscopic oxide layer that actually protects the metal underneath and self-heals when scratched. Sequim receives about 1078 mm of rain annually with gusts reaching 138 km/h, conditions that accelerate rust on ferrous metals. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating (applied to both panel sides) adds a 30-year warranted barrier against chalking, so your roof handles salt air and moisture without the degradation that would compromise steel over time.

How does a metal roof handle Sequim's snow and freeze-thaw cycles?

Interlock's four-way interlocking panels lock water out even under the 33 cm of snow Sequim averages yearly and the 14 annual freeze-thaw days that cause traditional asphalt to crack. The aluminum's thermal properties allow snow to shed safely without pooling; ice dams form less readily because the smooth metal surface doesn't trap moisture the way granulated shingles do. Snow guards can be added if you want to manage runoff. The lightweight design (Slate at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means no structural reinforcement is needed despite the seasonal load—your home's framing stays intact.

Will a metal roof stay on during Sequim's windstorms?

Yes. Interlock panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification, well above Sequim's typical gust peak of 138 km/h. The four-way interlocking system creates a unified assembly that distributes wind pressure across the entire roof rather than stressing individual fasteners. The ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 confirms this wind performance for coastal Pacific Northwest conditions. Combined with proper fastening and compatible underlayment, this design gives you confidence during the region's windier seasons.

What's the lifespan of an Interlock metal roof, and what's actually covered?

Interlock carries The Guardian lifetime limited warranty—a non-prorated material warranty for you (the original owner) covering rust, rot, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. That's a one-time transferable benefit; if you sell, the next owner gets a 50-year warranty term from installation. With the Alunar coating warranted 30 years against fading, and aluminum that doesn't degrade like asphalt or wood, a properly installed Interlock roof installed over most existing structures outlasts typical re-roofing cycles by decades, effectively becoming the last roof you buy.

How tough is this roof in hail, and could it lower my insurance?

Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. The roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy is engineered to absorb impact without cracking or losing structural integrity. Some insurers recognize metal's durability and offer premium reductions, though coverage varies. Ask your agent about discounts for Class 4-rated roofing. Given Sequim's exposure to weather extremes and the roof's proven impact resilience, this becomes a practical advantage if a hail event occurs.

Can an Interlock metal roof actually reduce cooling costs?

energy-efficient colors offer thermal emissivity of 0.84 and initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny)—meaning they reflect heat rather than absorb it like dark asphalt. Sequim's 3042 annual sunshine hours make this reflectance meaningful for reducing indoor heat gain during warmer months. Cool Roof Rating Council certification confirms the performance. While Sequim's mean temperature of 10.3°C is moderate, the extended daylight hours and occasional warm spells benefit from reflective coatings that lower air-conditioning demand and reduce thermal stress on your HVAC system over time.

Do I need to reinforce my house's structure for a metal roof?

No. The Interlock Tile profile, for example, weighs about 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than traditional concrete or clay tile—meaning it installs directly over most existing roof structures without reinforcement. Even heavier profiles like Slate (0.41 lb/sq ft) and Shake (0.58 lb/sq ft) weigh far less than materials they replicate. This lightweight advantage saves on structural work and permits installation over many existing asphalt or wood roofs. Your contractor assesses the current decking during the site visit, but the exceptional lightness of roofing-grade aluminum alloy typically eliminates costly frame upgrades.

What does the installation process look like, and how long does it take?

Installation begins with site assessment and underlayment preparation. Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc., serving your region since 1997, handles existing-roof evaluation—many installs proceed over the current layer. Panels are laid and four-way interlocked to create a unified water-tight assembly, fastened per ICC-ES ESR-1790 specifications. Flashings, vents, and trim are sealed. The lightweight material and interlocking design accelerate installation compared to traditional roofing. Timeline depends on roof size and complexity; your local installer provides a detailed schedule during the estimate. Current promotion: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation.

How much maintenance does a metal roof really need?

CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance, Interlock requires far less hands-on care than asphalt, wood shake, or clay tile. There's no granule loss, no seasonal algae or moss treatment (especially valuable in Sequim's 1078 mm annual rainfall), and no wood splitting or warping. Periodic rinsing during heavy rain removes debris; the Alunar 70% PVDF coating doesn't degrade like paint or sealers do. Occasional gutter cleaning is standard. The non-combustible aluminum and integrated drainage design eliminate maintenance tasks that drain budgets on traditional roofs. This translates to decades of reliable performance with minimal intervention.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost over a traditional asphalt roof?

Over the roof's lifecycle, Interlock eliminates the asphalt tear-off-to-landfill cycle (typical replacements every 15–20 years) and the associated labor and disposal costs. The lifetime non-prorated warranty on material means no surprise failures mid-life. Energy reflectance (up to 0.55 solar reflectance) reduces heating and cooling strain year-round in Sequim's temperate climate. With approximately 95% recyclability and no structural reinforcement needed, total installed cost becomes a one-time investment rather than recurring replacements. Current financing—no payments or interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off—bridges upfront expense. Consult your local installer for a detailed comparison with traditional options.
