Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Washougal, Washington
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
Overall the Installation Manager was great. The salesman was not professional at all. The initial sales process did not provide a great impression. The sales person was cocky and we didn't get the deal we wanted.
Once the installation started, it was done quickly and professionally and I love the result.Getting the team out here was another matter entirely. Apparenlty, their crews were overloaded, but I was scheduled 3 separate times to begin the project and, 3 times, no one showed up.....no phone call...really no nothing. I had to call Interlock a couple of times to get things shaken loose. Like I said, I understand when the crews are tied up and that's fine. But, I purposely cleared my schedule for the 3 days necessary to complete the install and 3 times was left high and dry.
Well, we could have gotten a phone call stating they weren't going to be there the day we agreed on. They gave us a second date and they were also not there for that one either, the third date they finally showed. A little more communication as far as letting people know if you can't make the original date.
Based upon what we have learned about the product, we are definitely ready to test it over time. We would however - and have - told friends about our new roof and its materials. Communication.
They could have improved on communication regarding the delays, and the clean-up after they were finished could have been better.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Washougal
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Washougal, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Washougal.
How does a metal roof handle Washougal's snow and freeze-thaw cycles?
Aluminum's smooth surface sheds snow and ice far more readily than asphalt, and the interlocking four-way panel design prevents water infiltration even after Washougal's typical 36 annual freeze-thaw days crack and degrade conventional shingles. The metal won't split, curl, or rot from repeated freezing—issues that plague wood and asphalt in your region's 48 cm average annual snowfall. Optional snow guards can be installed if you prefer controlled snow release rather than full shedding.
Why doesn't aluminum rust like steel roofing, and why does that matter here?
Aluminum contains no iron, so it cannot rust chemically. Instead, it forms a self-healing oxide layer that naturally repairs itself when scratched, even in wet climates. Washougal receives about 1468 mm of annual rainfall and occasional salt-laden air currents, yet aluminum roofs installed here since 1997 show zero rust. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish—applied to both panel sides per ESR-1790 specs—adds a 30-year warranty against corrosion, giving you absolute protection where moisture and humidity would attack steel.
Can a metal roof withstand Washougal's wind gusts?
Yes—Interlock's four-way interlocking panels are warranted to resist sustained winds up to 120 mph, which exceeds the 116 km/h gusts recorded in your region. The mechanical interlock between adjacent panels distributes lateral wind load across the entire roof system rather than relying on fasteners alone, so even Washougal's typical 15 km/h daily winds with occasional stronger bursts pose no risk. The ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation confirms this installation method meets or exceeds IBC/IRC wind load requirements.
Do I need to reinforce my house structure before installing a metal roof?
No structural reinforcement is necessary. Interlock's aluminum panels weigh as little as 0.41 lb/sq ft for the Shingle profile—about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so they install over most existing roofs without added load. Your home's framing was designed to carry conventional asphalt shingles; aluminum roofing is a fraction of that weight. This eliminates the cost and complexity of structural upgrades while shortening installation timelines, a practical advantage in Washougal's rainy season when weather windows matter.
What's the hail rating on a metal roof, and could it lower my insurance?
Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4, the highest impact rating available, with warranty coverage for hail perforation up to 1.5 inches. This superior impact resistance may qualify you for homeowner insurance discounts—contact your carrier with the UL rating. Washougal's hail risk is lower than interior regions, but the Class 4 rating protects against rare severe events and demonstrates the durability insurers recognize. Ask Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. to include the UL documentation with your installation records for insurance submission.
Will a metal roof reduce my cooling costs in summer?
energy-efficient Interlock colors achieve solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, meaning they reflect heat that asphalt absorbs. With Washougal's 2957 sunshine hours annually, this reflectivity compounds month to month, reducing air-conditioning demand. Cool Roof Rating Council testing confirms the temperature difference. While Washougal's mean annual temperature of 11.5°C is mild, summer peaks still benefit from reduced heat gain, lowering cooling load and extending equipment life over the roof's 50+ year lifespan.
What's the warranty on an Interlock metal roof, and how long will it actually last?
The Guardian provides a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty to the original owner, covering rust, rot, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. The warranty transfers once, giving the next owner 50 years of coverage from completion—a tangible asset that adds resale appeal. With aluminum's corrosion resistance proven across 26+ years of regional installations, and the Alunar 70% PVDF coating warranted 30 years against fading, realistic lifespan exceeds 50 years, making this your last roof purchase.
How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood?
Aluminum requires virtually no maintenance: no moss or algae growth risk, no shingle replacement, no wood rot or splitting. Annual inspections suffice—walk the perimeter after Washougal's winter ice-thaw season (~36 freeze-thaw days yearly) to clear gutters. Asphalt shingles, by contrast, crack and curl in your climate, requiring repairs every 5-10 years. Cedar shakes split from repeated moisture and freeze-thaw stress. The Alunar 70% PVDF finish resists chalking and fading across 1468 mm annual rainfall, needing only occasional rinsing if desired—no coating reapplication ever.
How long does installation take, and can you install over my existing roof?
Most installations complete in 2-4 weeks depending on roof size and weather, with the unique advantage that Interlock panels install directly over existing asphalt shingles (if structure permits). This eliminates tear-off labor and landfill costs, so your home stays weather-protected throughout. Washougal's average 1468 mm annual rainfall means contractors can work around your region's rainy season more flexibly when reroof timing is streamlined. Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. will assess your existing deck during the site visit and confirm the fastest, most economical approach for your home.
Is metal roofing actually better for the environment than asphalt shingles?
Aluminum is ~95% recyclable, ending the traditional asphalt shingle cycle of tear-off, landfill, and replacement every 20 years. Over 50+ years, one Interlock roof eliminates 2-3 asphalt reroof jobs and their disposal burden. CALGreen verification confirms the reduced maintenance footprint—no chemical treatments, no frequent replacements. Washougal's growing environmental awareness pairs well with choosing a material that cycles back into industry indefinitely rather than accumulating in regional waste streams. At end of life, your roof's aluminum scrap has commodity value, offsetting disposal costs.
