Interlock Metal Shingle Roof Review - Western Head, NS (Installed 2023)

Western Head, NS

TL;DR: Western Head Review Summary

Roofing installation in Western Head, Nova Scotia: replacement on a complex 130-year-old house with add-ons, dormers, valleys and steep, wind‑exposed planes requiring a strong, non‑rusting metal shingle system. The homeowner reports professional, responsive service—accurate quote, punctual crew, accommodated a custom random tile layout and relaid a section at no extra cost—and says the Interlock Lifetime aluminum roof looks excellent, is solid for decades, and they wholeheartedly recommend Maritime Permanent Roofing and the product.
Susan E.

From the very first contact with our sales rep, we met with professional, personable people who listened, advised and tried their best to give us what we asked for. Our roof isn’t easy, with add-ons, dormers, valleys and steep planes. We were given a great survey of what to expect would be necessary to give us a strong, tight roof on our 130-year-old house frame. They were very responsive to every concern or request, to the extent that when we asked for a different layout of tiles, they happily sent down a senior project manager who understood what we wanted, agreed with our choice, and came back the next day to go up on the roof and show the crew exactly how to lay the metal shingles in the random pattern we wanted. They actually stripped and relaid a whole section of the roof without complaint and at no extra cost to us. Amazing! The quote we received was spot on and there were no horrible surprises with extra costs or unexpected additional work. The crew were equally professional, cheerful, polite and careful to clean up at the end of each day. They worked quickly and carefully, they followed a great schedule of early starts on time with zero no-shows or late arrivals, a reasonable lunch break, then more hard work in the afternoon until they finished their regular work day. We never needed to guess when they would arrive or how late they would stay, unlike our previous experience with another company. We have absolutely nothing bad to say about our whole experience. Our roof looks amazing. It’s solid and good for decades, and aluminum won’t rust (we’re next to the ocean with savage winds).

We can wholeheartedly recommend both Maritime Permanent Roofing and the product they use, Interlock Lifetime Roofing Systems. We are very proud of our new roof, which looks and feels first class. A really good experience for us from start to finish.

Top 10 Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Western Head

Homeowners researching metal roofing in Western Head often have several important questions before replacing their roof. Many people want to understand how metal roofing compares to traditional materials like asphalt shingles in terms of lifespan, durability, cost, and long-term value. Roofing decisions can also be influenced by local weather conditions. Homes in Western Head may experience environmental factors such as rain, wind, snow, heat, fire, or seasonal storms that can impact roof performance over time. The following frequently asked questions help explain what homeowners should know when evaluating metal roofing and why many people choose durable roofing systems designed for long-term protection.

Metal roofs commonly last at least 50–75+ years, while asphalt roofs typically have shorter lifespans (often 15–30 years). Western Head is a coastal, exposed location with cold, snowy winters and frequent strong winds—conditions that increase freeze–thaw cycling, snow loads and salt-laden moisture on roofs, accelerating wear on lesser materials. Because of coastal moisture, wind uplift and periodic heavy snow, homeowners here often choose more durable systems (metal or heavy-gauge aluminium) for corrosion resistance, superior wind performance and long-term weather protection. Interlock Metal Roofing systems use heavy-gauge aluminium and are backed by a lifetime limited 50-year transferable warranty designed for long-term protection—making them a common choice for Western Head’s demanding marine climate.
How much does a metal roof cost in Western Head, NS? Metal roofs cost more upfront than asphalt shingles; in Nova Scotia installed prices commonly range roughly $6–$20 per square foot (many jobs fall near $9–15/ft²) depending on material and finish. The final price depends on roof size, pitch, complexity, tear‑off, flashing, skylights and labour. Local factors — Western Head’s coastal exposure brings strong winds, salt spray and snowy, windy winters that increase wind‑ and corrosion‑resistance requirements, and freeze–thaw cycles can stress fasteners and flashings — can raise material and installation standards and cost. Many homeowners compare lifetime value rather than initial price; durable metal systems often reduce long‑term repair and replacement costs. Interlock Metal Roofing focuses on long‑term ownership value rather than competing as a low‑cost option.
Western Head’s maritime climate brings coastal moisture/salt spray and cold, snowy, windy winters — conditions that stress roofing materials year-round. Lifespan: metal roofs typically last 40–70 years; asphalt shingles 15–25. Maintenance: metal needs less routine upkeep and resists moss and mould encouraged by coastal humidity; shingles require more patching, recoating and granule-loss monitoring. Durability: metal sheds snow, stands up to high winds and resists freeze–thaw damage better; asphalt can curl, lift or form ice dams in heavy storms. Long-term value: higher upfront cost for metal often pays back through longer life, lower maintenance and improved resale value, but asphalt can be economical short-term. Homeowners who prioritise durability and long-term protection often choose metal roofing. Interlock Metal Roofing systems appeal in Western Head for proven weather resistance, low maintenance and strong architectural curb appeal.
Many people assume metal roofs are loud in rain, but that’s a common myth in Western Head, NS. Modern residential metal roofs installed over solid decking do not sound like barn roofs; the solid substrate and underlayment greatly reduce noise. Sound is influenced by insulation, attic space, and the overall roof assembly—proper insulation and an enclosed attic lower rain sound to levels comparable with shingles or tiles. Installation quality matters: fastener type, underlayments and attachment method all affect acoustic performance. When designed and installed correctly, residential metal roofing is typically similar in sound to other roofing materials. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are supplied and fitted as complete roofing systems specifically engineered for residential homes.
In Western Head, Nova Scotia, a metal roof can be energy efficient because metal roofing can reflect sunlight, reducing solar heat gain in warmer months. Energy performance depends on the whole roof assembly: underlayment, insulation levels and placement, and attic ventilation all shape heating and cooling loads. Local climate conditions influence potential benefits — reflectivity helps on sunnier, warmer days, while in heating-dominated periods effective insulation and air-sealing matter more. Homeowners researching roof replacement often prioritise energy efficiency to lower heating and cooling costs, improve year‑round comfort, reduce environmental impact, and enhance resale value. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are designed to support long‑term home performance.
Western Head, NS is exposed to strong coastal winds, nor’easters, heavy snow and occasional hail—conditions that increase wind uplift, impact and water‑ingress risk for roofs. Metal roofing performs well in wind, hail and storms when the system is specified and installed for local hazards: standing‑seam and interlocking panels resist uplift, heavier gauges and impact‑rated coatings improve hail resistance, and proper flashing, fasteners and snow‑management reduce storm damage. Performance hinges on roofing system design, installation quality and material durability. Homeowners weigh weather resilience to lower repair and insurance costs, protect interiors and extend service life. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are engineered for durability, hail protection and tested wind resistance, and when paired with correct installation offer strong protection for Western Head’s coastal climate.
Metal roofing performance depends on the metal used: steel, galvanized, galvalume, copper and aluminium each behave differently in wet, salty coastal climates. Some materials — aluminium, stainless steel, copper and properly coated galvalume — resist corrosion better than bare steel. Aluminium performs particularly well in wet or coastal environments because it forms a protective oxide layer that limits rust and requires minimal maintenance. Homeowners in Western Head, NS should prioritise corrosion resistance to maximise roof lifespan, reduce maintenance and repair costs, protect interior finishes and preserve resale value in a marine atmosphere. Interlock Metal Roofing systems use aluminium construction designed for strong corrosion resistance and are protected by the Alunar Coating System for extra protection.
Metal roofing in Western Head, Nova Scotia is generally considered a low‑maintenance, durable option suited to coastal conditions. No roof is completely maintenance‑free, so homeowners should inspect roofs periodically—after storms, heavy snowfall, or at least twice yearly. Check for accumulated debris, blocked or damaged gutters, loose or corroded flashing, and compromised penetrations such as vents, chimneys and skylights. Remove leaves, salt buildup and branches promptly, and clear gutters to prevent water backup. Weather events and seasonal debris can dislodge fasteners or protective coatings, so address damage quickly to preserve performance and warranty. With routine inspections and timely minor repairs, metal roofs provide long life and reliable protection for coastal Nova Scotia homes.
In Western Head, NS, metal roofing can increase home value. Buyers often prioritise durable, low‑maintenance roofs that reduce future repair costs; premium roofing materials also boost curb appeal and make a strong first impression. A long lifespan and transferable warranties improve buyer confidence and can justify a higher asking price. That said, neighbourhood architectural style matters: a metal roof that complements nearby homes will add more value than one that looks out of place. Interlock Metal Roofing systems offer multiple architectural profiles—slate, cedar shingle, Mediterranean tile, shake and standing seam—available in heavy‑gauge aluminium and solid copper, letting you match local character while delivering the durability and low maintenance many buyers seek.
Western Head’s coastal exposure brings salt‑laden moisture and strong winds, and winters bring heavy snow with freeze–thaw cycles that stress roofs. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are compatible with solar panels when Maritime Metal Roofing Ltd. fits custom solar brackets that securely attach to the interlocking profiles. Consider roof lifespan before adding panels—solar mounts make reroofing more complex—so long‑lasting materials are preferred. If you’re choosing between roofing types in Western Head, favour durable, corrosion‑resistant metal like Interlock, and plan for future solar during replacement to avoid extra labour and costs. Interlock is designed to support solar mounting solutions, professionally installed and engineered for local conditions.

I’ve had my interlock roof for 14 yrs and have had no issues with it until this last winter. We had heavier than normal snow and a lot of freeze thaw conditions. Several of the snow deflectors were pushed forward and lifted some of the roof. I emailed Dave and Tyler and repairs were made quickly . You can’t tell there was any concerns at all.

Metal Shingle Roof Review in Sudbury, ON (Interlock - Installed 2017)

Review: April 25, 2026

Completion: June 7, 2018

We had our roof replaced in 2017 with an aluminum roof by Interlock Metal Roofing. We live on the lake, and prior to the replacement, we were spending thousands of dollars every year because shingles would fly off in the wind.

We haven’t had any issues in the past 7 years. Our experience with Interlock Metal Roofing was excellent — they were very professional and did a beautiful job, even though our roof is quite high and challenging.

Our roof still looks beautiful, and we haven’t had to worry about it at all in the past 9 years.

Corvallis, OR Metal Shingle Roof Review — Interlock (Installed 2017)

Review: April 24, 2026

Completion: November 9, 2017

I love my Interlock roof! No more climbing up to clean it, and no more gritty debris falling into my garden after a few years. It looks fantastic and performs exactly as it should.

The installers were excellent—knowledgeable, detail-oriented, and personable. Ivan is a gem! He handled a small flashing addition efficiently and cleaned the entire roof with a blower in no time.

After almost ten years, it’s still the only roof I would choose.

Interlock Metal Roof Review - Ramara, ON (Installed 2019)

Review: April 23, 2026

Completion: April 23, 2026

We are so happy with our interlock roof from Bruce. We had shopped around because we live on the lake with strong winds and we wanted a quality, long lasting product. Our roof has never changed colour and looks just as good now as the day it was installed. We also love the lifetime transferable warranty. We also love that it is made in Canada so there are no tariffs. Bruce was our sales person. He came right away, explained everything to us. We made the right decision not choosing shingles because of the environment and quality of the product. This was an affordable investment that was worth it. The crew was professional in every aspect. If I move, I will definitely be contacting Bruce again for another interlock roof.

Portland, OR Metal Shingles Review — Safety Anchors Installed 2019

Review: April 20, 2026

Completion: June 20, 2019

We’ve had our roof for about 7 years and have been very pleased with it. Recently, I scheduled gutter cleaning which was complicated by a run of wet weather which makes the roof very slippery. The gutter contractor asked if we had ever considered installing safety anchors. I didn’t know there was such a thing. I called Interlock and Ivan came by to take a look. He quickly determined appropriate locations for the anchors that the gutter cleaners could clip their safety harnesses to and showed me an example of the anchor itself. He also offered to paint them black to make them more inconspicuous on our dark roof. He returned about a week later for the install and afterwards showed us pictures of the anchors from the roof and pointed them out from the ground. Overall very professional, prompt, excellent service.

Interlock Metal Shingle Roof Review in Bay View, WI (Installed 2009)

Review: April 16, 2026

Completion: February 20, 2009

I had Interlock put on a beautiful red slate roof 17 years ago.The roof still looks beautiful. 5 years ago, I had them also re-roof my garage with the same type of slate. The roofs look gorgeous and I have no maintenance whatsoever.I get complements all the time. The guy whom I contracted with was named "Tim' but has since died. He was a really nice guy. Back in 2009, the roof was much cheaper. ( I actually paid more for the garage 5 years ago!) I am extremely happy with the roofs. The guys did a wonderful job, replacing rotted boards where necessary. They also told me about very cheap gutters I could buy at Menards instead of those ridiculously - priced "special" gutter systems. I bought them and they placed them on my buildings. This home will go to my daughter one day; I do not want her to have to lift a finger. Note that I had an asphalt roof previously. It lasted only 12 years. The shingles curled up under the sun and cracked. They looked terrible. I can honestly say that these metals roofs by Interlock are very much worth what you pay for them. They will last a lifetime with almost no maintenance. Instead of replacing a roof every 15 years and paying lots for asphalt or fiberglass, their metal roofs last very long and you will never have to re- roof again.

Interlock Metal Roofing Review in Saint Paul, AB — 50-Year Warranty (Installed 2025)

Review: April 15, 2026

Completion: August 31, 2025

We recently installed a new Interlock Roofing System, and we couldn’t be happier with the decision. Knowing it’s backed by a limited lifetime, non-prorated, fully transferable 50-year warranty gives us real peace of mind—it truly feels like a smart long-term investment. Mr. Yorman and his crew were outstanding from start to finish. Their commitment to customer service is second to none. They showed up exactly when they said they would and worked diligently until the job was completed. The finished product looks fantastic, and the cleanup was so thorough that our property actually looked better than before they arrived. A special mention to Tyler, who did an excellent job walking us through the benefits and helping us feel confident in choosing this system. Overall, a great experience and highly recommended!

We installed an Interlock roof in 2017. The roof is still like new. Due to an insulation issue and snow depth of over 4 feet, we had an ice build up problem. Ken, Greg and Cheri provided consultation and prompt service in addressing the addition of snow guards. Their knowledgable and friendly service was greatly appreciated. We highly recommend both the product and the team.

I recently had my 25 year old asphalt roof replaced with an Interlock Metal roof. I'm so very happy with my decision. In fact, best decision ever to have Interlock Industries install. The metal roof is manufactured in Delta, BC and they have their own installers. It's not panels! It looks very much like a cedar roof! Colour is awesome as well! My home is located in Victoria on Vancouver Island and looks great with my new roof! Interlock is a very professional business from contract signing to installation. Amazing crew that gets the job done in a timely manner. My roof looks fabulous. It's a work of art!!

Aurora, ON Metal Roofing Review — Interlock Installation (2016)

Review: April 13, 2026

Completion: May 3, 2016

We moved into our new house in 1984. Our new house came with new 25 year shingles. In 2004, 20 years later we noticed that our roof shingles needed to be redone. Now, back in 1984 they used asbestos in the roof shingles and although at the time they said they were 25 year shingles, we were still happy to get 20 years out of them. So, in 2004 we got a quote and had the roof re-shingled. We paid extra for the 25 year shingles as we had such a good result with the original shingles. In 2016 (i.e. 12 years later) my neighbour told us that our shingles on the south side of the house were cracked with rolled up edges and needed to be replaced. (We can't see the south roof of our house unless we are visiting the neighbours.) The shingles on the north side were still ok, but since you can't really shingle half a roof we knew that we had to have the whole roof done...after just 12 years. We were a little upset about this and decided to go to the National Home Show in Toronto to look at alternatives. We met Tom Watson at the Interlock Metal Roofing booth and he took a lot of time and explained the complete roofing system to us. We liked what we saw and what was explained to us and we arranged to have a home visit from Interlock and to give us a quote. The metal roof was certainly a lot more expensive than a regular asphalt shingle roof, but we decided to get the metal roof anyways because we did not want the hassle of having to re-shingle every 10 or 11 years...and there are also some other unforeseen benefits detailed below that we did not know about at the time. The metal roof comes with a Lifetime Limited Warranty, 50 year transferable, not prorated so even though more expensive it adds value to lyour home because if in the future you are looking to sell, the buyer knows he won't have any roof problems for the 50 year life of the roof. Your roof becomes an asset instead of a liability. The installation happened over 4-5 days. I paid a lot of attention to what they were doing and how they were doing it. The roof vents were removed. These are the same roof vents that raccoons like to rip off for access to your attic, so that potential problem went away. A ridge vent (google it) was installed on the top of the roof and it is low profile and fits in so you would not know that it is there. Raccoons have been known to chew a hole in asphalt shingles and roofing plywood to get into your attic. With a metal roof, it isn't happening. That mode of access is eliminated. Now, with our previous asphalt shingles we had constant problems with raccoons pooping on our roof (sound familiar?) and for some reason, at least for the last 10 years that we have had the metal roof, that has not happened. I don't know why, but I can speculate that the raccoons find the metal roof very slippery and they are not comfortable being up there and doing their business while trying not to slide off the roof. Also, in the past we have had squirrels occasionally make their way through, under, beside our asphalt shingles and get into our attic. That will never happen with a metal roof because the whole roof is sealed and northing is getting that way. If you are concerned about high winds ripping off your shingles you don't have to worry with a metal roof. Each and every metal shingle is fastened to the roof with aluminum screws (note the metal roof shingles are painted and baked to a tough finish) and they are interlocked with each other, so you may lose your entire roof in a hurricane, but the metal shingles will still be attached to it. We moved into our new house in 1984. After about 2 years of sweating through humid summers, we installed an A/C system. Our new A/C system worked ok in that it removed the humidity and cooled the house, but with the high 37 deg C temperatures it was struggling. The A/C would run continuously and never stopped on those hot days, but once the metal roof was installed it cycled on and off as designed. We highly recommend Interlock Metal Roofing.

We had our roofed replaced by Interlock Roofing in 2016. One of the best decisions we’ve ever made! Our roof looks like slate shingles but is entirely metal. We e received many compliments on it over the years Recently we had a lot of strong wind and hailstorms and our representative, John Mondeshean, checked in with us to see if we sustained any roof damage. He came out and inspected our roof for us within a day or two. Luckily we didn’t have any damage. I’ve been impressed by this company and their product from day one. John is the consummate professional. Our roof is now 10 years old and I still say it was the best investment! Highly recommend!
