Review: October 22, 1998 Completion: August 4, 1998

We wanted to let you know how pleased we are with our new Interlock Roof. The initial information session, the quality of the product and workmanship and the follow-up have been excellent. In the low-key introductory session, we received sufficient Information to make an informed decision. With the range of colours and styles, we had several options that would have worked for our house. We were convinced that this product would have long-lasting benefits to the appearance of our house. The men who worked on our house, as well as being friendly, courteous and knowledgeable about the product, worked quickly. It was really appreciated how they tidied as they went along. They kept us informed about the progress of their work and, in the end, did a walkthrough of the whole job. They explained how to go on the roof safely to do any future chimney work, for example. The Interlocking roof really has added to the attractiveness of the house. It looks smart and has drawn interest from neighbours and passers-by. We like the way the interlocking roof has become an integral part of the eaves troughing and protects the fascia boards, which will provide extra strength and protection. Already we notice that the autumn leaves are sliding away – and the squirrels too! We anticipate that snow and ice will act in the same way. We look forward to a roof that will continue to look good over time and provide Increased protection and insulation from the elements. We would have no hesitation in recommending your roof to others.

Top 10 Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Peterborough

Homeowners researching metal roofing in Peterborough often have several important questions before replacing their roof. Many people want to understand how metal roofing compares to traditional materials like asphalt shingles in terms of lifespan, durability, cost, and long-term value. Roofing decisions can also be influenced by local weather conditions. Homes in Peterborough may experience environmental factors such as rain, wind, snow, heat, fire, or seasonal storms that can impact roof performance over time. The following frequently asked questions help explain what homeowners should know when evaluating metal roofing and why many people choose durable roofing systems designed for long-term protection.

How long will a metal roof last in Peterborough, ON?

Metal roofs commonly last at least 50–75+ years; asphalt roofs typically have shorter lifespans and often require replacement much sooner. Peterborough experiences cold, snowy winters with frequent freeze–thaw cycles and breezy conditions, which increase stress on roofing materials and ice-dam risk. The local station records roughly 880–900 mm of annual precipitation with about 15% falling as snow, so snow load and repeated wet–freeze cycles matter for longevity. Metal panels shed snow, resist freeze–thaw damage and withstand wind better than asphalt shingles, so homeowners in Peterborough often choose more durable systems to reduce maintenance and lifecycle cost. Interlock Metal Roofing systems use heavy-gauge aluminium and include a lifetime limited 50-year transferable warranty designed for long-term protection.

How much does it cost to install a metal roof in Peterborough, ON?

Metal roofs in Peterborough typically cost more upfront than asphalt shingles. Final price depends on roof size, pitch, complexity (hips, valleys), removal/tear‑off of the old roof, flashing and skylight work, and local labour and permit costs. Local construction factors — site access, seasonal labour availability and any municipal bylaw or code requirements — can also affect bids. Many homeowners compare options by lifetime value rather than first cost: metal roofs usually have higher initial expense but offer longer service life, greater durability and lower maintenance, which can reduce future repair and replacement costs. Consider warranty, material quality and installation when comparing quotes. Interlock Metal Roofing prioritises long‑term ownership value and durable systems rather than competing as a low‑cost roofing option in Peterborough.

Should I choose metal roofing or asphalt shingles for my Peterborough home?

Metal vs asphalt in Peterborough: expect metal to last 40–70+ years versus 15–25 years for architectural asphalt shingles (lifespan). Metal needs less routine upkeep (occasional gutter/fastener checks) while shingles require more frequent inspections, repairs and periodic replacement (maintenance). Metal is more resistant to heavy snow, ice and freeze–thaw damage and sheds snow better; shingles are more vulnerable to granule loss, ice-dam problems and water infiltration after repeated freeze–thaw cycles common in Peterborough winters. Metal offers superior impact and wind resistance (durability) and usually higher long-term value even if upfront cost is greater — homeowners prioritising durability and long-term protection often choose metal. Interlock Metal Roofing appeals in Peterborough for its longevity, strong snow performance, low maintenance and architectural curb appeal.

Are metal roofs noisy when it rains in Peterborough?

This is a common myth: modern metal roofs do not sound like barn roofs when it rains in Peterborough, ON. Residential metal roofs installed over solid decking typically do not produce more noise than other roofing materials. Insulation, attic space and the roof assembly significantly affect rain noise; a good underlay, insulation and ventilation reduce sound. Installation quality matters — secure decking, proper fasteners and correct attachment all reduce rattling. Properly installed residential metal roofs are generally similar in sound to asphalt shingles or tile. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are supplied and installed as complete roofing systems designed for residential homes, with components chosen to control sound and weather performance.

How energy-efficient are metal roofs in Peterborough?

In Peterborough, a metal roof can be energy efficient because metal roofing reflects sunlight, reducing summer heat gain and lowering cooling demand. That reflective quality helps, but true energy performance depends on the entire roof assembly: underlayment, insulation levels, airtightness and proper attic ventilation. Ontario’s seasonal climate also matters—good insulation and ventilation are essential to limit winter heat loss, so metal’s net benefit varies by installation and year‑round conditions. Homeowners researching roof replacement often prioritise energy efficiency to improve comfort, reduce heating and cooling costs, meet modern building standards and increase resale value. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are designed to integrate with appropriate assemblies and ventilation to support long‑term home performance.

How does metal roofing in Peterborough, ON withstand wind, hail, and severe weather?

Peterborough, ON faces cold winters with heavy snow and freezing rain, plus spring–summer thunderstorms that can bring strong gusts and occasional hail—Environment Canada and local alerts list winter storms, wind warnings and severe-weather advisories for the area. Metal roofing performs well in wind (standing-seam profiles resist uplift), sheds snow and ice, and can offer better impact resistance to hail than many asphalt roofs when correctly specified. Performance depends on roofing system design, installation quality and material durability. Homeowners consider weather resilience to reduce leaks, structural damage, repair costs and insurance impacts. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are engineered for durability, hail protection and wind resistance. Regular inspections and correct fastening details help maintain expected performance and extend service life.

Will a metal roof rust or corrode in Peterborough's wet climate?

Metal roofing performance in Peterborough, ON depends on the base metal and protective coatings. Some metals—aluminium, stainless steel and coated steels such as Galvalume—offer greater corrosion resistance than untreated steel, reducing rust and long‑term maintenance. Aluminium performs especially well in wet or coastal environments because it forms a protective oxide layer that resists corrosion. Homeowners should prioritise corrosion resistance when selecting roofing: it extends service life, lowers repair costs, protects interior finishes, and helps maintain property value in Ontario’s seasonal climate. Interlock Metal Roofing systems use aluminium construction designed for strong corrosion resistance and are protected by the Alunar Coating System for extra protection, providing a durable option suited to Peterborough’s conditions.

How often should I inspect and maintain my metal roof in Peterborough?

Metal roofing in Peterborough, Ontario is generally low maintenance and highly durable, resisting rot, insect damage and many weather impacts. However, no roof is completely maintenance‑free: homeowners should inspect roofs every season and after storms. Look for accumulated debris (leaves, branches, ice), check gutters and downspouts for blockages, and examine flashing, sealants and roof penetrations (vents, chimneys, skylights) for corrosion, loose fasteners or gaps. Heavy snow, freeze‑thaw cycles, wind events and seasonal leaf fall can concentrate debris and stress details, so prompt clearing and minor repairs extend service life. With routine visual checks and occasional cleaning or touch‑ups, metal roofing remains a durable, low‑maintenance choice for Peterborough homes.

How does curb appeal affect my home's resale value in Peterborough?

In Peterborough, ON, metal roofing can increase home value. Buyers prioritise durable, low‑maintenance roofs that reduce future expenses, and premium roofing materials improve curb appeal and first impressions. A long lifespan—often several decades—gives buyers confidence in the home’s condition and can justify a higher asking price. Architectural style matters: roofs that suit local neighbourhood styles and streetscape harmony will add more value than incongruous choices. Interlock Metal Roofing systems offer multiple architectural profiles—slate, cedar shingle, Mediterranean tile, shake and standing seam—so you can match traditional or contemporary homes. They are available in heavy‑gauge aluminium and solid copper, providing both aesthetic variety and long‑term performance. In Peterborough’s market, well‑installed metal roofs often attract more buyers and can shorten time on market.

Can I install solar panels on my Interlock Metal Roofing System in Peterborough?

Yes — Interlock Metal Roofing Systems are compatible with solar in Peterborough when fitted with custom solar brackets installed by Interlock Metal Roofing (Ontario) Ltd. In Peterborough’s climate, significant winter snow loads and frequent freeze–thaw cycles (which can cause ice dams and stress mounts) should be considered when choosing a roof and solar system. Because panels add weight and attachment points, roof lifespan matters: choose long‑lasting materials so you don’t have to remove panels to replace the roof. When comparing roofing materials, favour durable, corrosion‑resistant systems like Interlock’s metal profiles, which are designed to support solar mounting solutions and reduce long‑term maintenance in this humid, seasonal climate. Plan solar at reroofing to save time and money.
