Interlock Black Slate Metal Shingle Review — St. George, ON (Installed 2021)

St. George, ON

TL;DR: St. George Review Summary

Roofing installation in St. George, Ontario — Product: Interlock Metal Roofing (Interlock); Colors: Black Slate. Homeowners replaced a wind-prone cedar roof, described a seamless process with knowledgeable salesperson John Turnbull, detail-oriented installer Moses and supervisor Tony Lupton, and report that after 22 months the Interlock has withstood extreme winds, hail and heavy rain with no damage, moderate interior noise during storms, a finish that still looks like new, and they would recommend the company and Product.
John B.

We are pleased with our new Interlock aluminum roof. Ours is Black Slate. The process was seamless from the explanations of the product to the installation. The salesperson John Turnbull was patient and knowledgeable and the installer Moses had great attention to detail. Tony Lupton was the supervisor and was on site several times. All of our questions were answered promptly and correspondence was replied to very quickly. Without hesitation we would recommend the company and product. Our roof presented many challenges given its size and various steep pitches and it was installed without a hitch which speaks highly of the installer . After 22 months the product has withstood extremely high winds in SW Ontario . There has been absolutely no damage despite the increased number and intensity of storms in our community. Our previous cedar roof was subject to damage in high winds. We have been subjected to hail and heavy rains on multiple occasions and surprisingly the noise level in the house is moderate . Average storms do not produce undue noise . We were pleasantly surprised at how quiet the interior of the home is during heavy rain and hail. The finish on the black roof continues to look like new even after the numerous weather related stress tests it has been through .

Top 10 Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in St. George

Homeowners researching metal roofing in St. George often have several important questions before replacing their roof. Many people want to understand how metal roofing compares to traditional materials like asphalt shingles in terms of lifespan, durability, cost, and long-term value. Roofing decisions can also be influenced by local weather conditions. Homes in St. George may experience environmental factors such as rain, wind, snow, heat, fire, or seasonal storms that can impact roof performance over time. The following frequently asked questions help explain what homeowners should know when evaluating metal roofing and why many people choose durable roofing systems designed for long-term protection.

Metal roofs in St. George, ON commonly last 50–75+ years, while asphalt shingles typically last 15–25 years and need replacement sooner. St. George experiences cold, snowy winters with frequent freeze–thaw cycles plus moderate year‑round precipitation and occasional windy or hail events—conditions that accelerate wear on asphalt but are handled well by metal’s durability and snow‑shedding ability. Homeowners choose metal for longevity, lower maintenance, better resistance to snow loads, freeze–thaw damage, wind and hail, and improved long‑term value compared with asphalt. Interlock Metal Roofing systems use heavy‑gauge aluminium and come with a lifetime‑limited 50‑year transferable warranty designed for long‑term protection.
Metal roofing in St. George (ON) typically costs more upfront than asphalt shingles. Price depends on roof size, slope and complexity, tear‑off, flashing and skylights, and local labour and access conditions. St. George’s winters bring seasonal snow loads and frequent freeze–thaw cycles that influence material choice and installation details (ice‑shielding, fastening, underlayment), so durable systems often justify higher initial cost by reducing ice‑related repairs and early replacement. Many homeowners compare lifetime value rather than just purchase price: metal roofs typically last longer, resist moisture and shedding snow better, and can lower long‑term repair and replacement costs. Interlock Metal Roofing emphasises long‑term ownership value and durability rather than competing as a low‑cost option.
Short answer: Metal roofing can be worth the higher upfront cost in St. George if you prioritise longevity and low long‑term risk; asphalt shingles suit buyers focused on lower initial cost. Lifespan: Metal roofing lasts over 50 years versus ~20–25 years for typical asphalt shingles. Maintenance: Metal needs occasional inspections and fastening checks; asphalt requires more frequent repairs and moss/roof‑valley cleaning. Durability: Metal resists snow, ice and freeze–thaw damage better; asphalt is more vulnerable to granular loss and ice‑dam issues. Long‑term value: Higher initial cost for metal is offset by longer life, lower replacement frequency and often higher resale appeal. Local weather note: St. George has cold, snowy winters with freeze–thaw cycles and moderate precipitation that accelerate shingle wear, making durability a key factor for many homeowners. Interlock Metal Roofing appeals to owners seeking long‑term performance and architectural curb appeal without frequent reroofing.
Short answer: No — that’s a common myth. St. George homeowners face regular rain and seasonal snow with freeze–thaw cycles that stress roofs but do not make modern metal roofs noisy when properly built. Modern residential metal roofs installed over solid decking don’t sound like barn roofs. Sound depends on roof assembly: insulation, attic volume, underlayment and venting absorb rainfall noise. Installation quality and fastening method matter. A well‑installed metal roof will typically sound similar to asphalt or tile under the same attic/insulation conditions. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are supplied and fitted as complete residential roofing systems designed to perform and reduce noise when installed correctly.
St. George, ON has cold, snowy winters with regular freeze–thaw cycles and warm, humid summers—conditions that drive both heating and cooling needs and affect roof durability. A metal roof can be energy‑efficient here because its reflective finish reduces solar heat gain in summer, lowering cooling loads. Overall performance also depends on the roof assembly, insulation levels and attic ventilation—these control heat transfer and reduce ice‑dam risk in winter. Local heavy snow and freeze–thaw cycles mean benefits vary by season: reflective gains are largest in summer, while durability and snow‑shedding matter in winter. Homeowners often weigh energy savings, year‑round comfort and resale value when choosing replacement materials. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are designed to support long‑term home performance.
St. George routinely faces snowy, freeze–thaw winters that increase snow loads and ice dam risk, plus warm‑season thunderstorms that can produce heavy rain, hail and gusty winds—both affect long‑term roof performance. Metal roofing performs well in these conditions when the system is designed for local loads: interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice, impact‑rated alloys and thicker gauges reduce hail damage, and correctly fastened systems resist wind uplift. However, actual performance depends on roofing system design, installation quality (flashing, underlayment, fasteners) and material durability. Homeowners comparing materials should weigh weather resilience, maintenance and life‑cycle costs. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are engineered for durability, hail protection and wind resistance, making them a strong option for St. George when specified and installed to local building loads and good practice.
Q: How resistant are metal roofs to corrosion and rust in St. George, ON? Metal roofing performance depends on the base metal and protective coatings; some metals resist corrosion far better than others. St. George’s cold, snowy winters with frequent freeze–thaw cycles and year‑round precipitation increase moisture exposure and accelerate corrosion risks for vulnerable materials. Aluminium performs particularly well in wet or coastal environments because it naturally forms a stable oxide layer; coated steels (galvanized/galvalume) vary by finish and maintenance. Homeowners should prioritise corrosion resistance to reduce leaks, maintenance and extend roof life. Interlock Metal Roofing systems use aluminium construction designed for strong corrosion resistance and are protected by the Alunar Coating System for extra protection.
Metal roofing is generally low maintenance and durable, making it an excellent option compared with asphalt shingles for St. George homeowners. However, no roof is completely maintenance‑free: inspect roofs at least twice a year and after storms. Remove debris, keep gutters clear, and check flashing and penetrations (vents, chimneys, skylights) for seal or fastener issues. St. George’s cold winters with snow loads and regular freeze–thaw cycles, plus spring rainfall, can drive ice dams, thermal movement and debris buildup that stress roofs and flashings. Compared with shingles, metal resists rot, moss and UV degradation; consider a professional check every 3–5 years to protect finish and fasteners.
Yes — in St. George, ON, metal roofing can boost home value. St. George’s cold, snowy winters and regular freeze–thaw cycles make durability and snow- and ice-shedding important for buyers and for long-term roof performance. Buyers value durable, low‑maintenance roofs; premium materials improve curb appeal; and a long lifespan reassures buyers about future repair costs. Architectural style matters too — a metal roof that mimics slate, cedar or tile fits neighbourhood character better. Interlock Metal Roofing systems offer slate, cedar shingle, Mediterranean tile, shake and standing‑seam profiles in heavy‑gauge aluminium and solid copper, giving you both aesthetic and performance benefits when comparing roofing materials locally.
In St. George, ON, seasonal snow and freeze‑thaw cycles plus periodic rainfall increase ice‑dam and moisture risks, so durable, low‑movement roofs are advisable. Interlock Metal Roofing Systems are solar‑compatible when fitted with custom solar brackets installed by Interlock Metal Roofing (BC) Ltd. Because solar panels last decades, roof lifespan is critical—choose long‑lasting materials and plan for future solar when replacing a roof. They also reduce moss and ice‑dam risk compared with asphalt shingles. Interlock’s interlocking metal panels are designed to support solar mounting solutions and are often preferred by homeowners comparing roofing materials in St. George due to their longevity, resistance to freeze‑thaw movement and good moisture performance.

Portland, OR Metal Shingles Review — Safety Anchors Installed 2019

April 19, 2026

We’ve had our roof for about 7 years and have been very pleased with it. Recently, I scheduled gutter cleaning which was complicated by a run of wet weather which makes the roof very slippery. The gutter contractor asked if we had ever considered installing safety anchors. I didn’t know there was such a thing. I called Interlock and Ivan came by to take a look. He quickly determined appropriate locations for the anchors that the gutter cleaners could clip their safety harnesses to and showed me an example of the anchor itself. He also offered to paint them black to make them more inconspicuous on our dark roof. He returned about a week later for the install and afterwards showed us pictures of the anchors from the roof and pointed them out from the ground. Overall very professional, prompt, excellent service.

Interlock Metal Shingle Roof Review in Bay View, WI (Installed 2009)

April 15, 2026

I had Interlock put on a beautiful red slate roof 17 years ago.The roof still looks beautiful. 5 years ago, I had them also re-roof my garage with the same type of slate. The roofs look gorgeous and I have no maintenance whatsoever.I get complements all the time. The guy whom I contracted with was named "Tim' but has since died. He was a really nice guy. Back in 2009, the roof was much cheaper. ( I actually paid more for the garage 5 years ago!) I am extremely happy with the roofs. The guys did a wonderful job, replacing rotted boards where necessary. They also told me about very cheap gutters I could buy at Menards instead of those ridiculously - priced "special" gutter systems. I bought them and they placed them on my buildings. This home will go to my daughter one day; I do not want her to have to lift a finger. Note that I had an asphalt roof previously. It lasted only 12 years. The shingles curled up under the sun and cracked. They looked terrible. I can honestly say that these metals roofs by Interlock are very much worth what you pay for them. They will last a lifetime with almost no maintenance. Instead of replacing a roof every 15 years and paying lots for asphalt or fiberglass, their metal roofs last very long and you will never have to re- roof again.

Interlock Metal Roofing Review in Saint Paul, AB — 50-Year Warranty (Installed 2025)

April 14, 2026

We recently installed a new Interlock Roofing System, and we couldn’t be happier with the decision. Knowing it’s backed by a limited lifetime, non-prorated, fully transferable 50-year warranty gives us real peace of mind—it truly feels like a smart long-term investment. Mr. Yorman and his crew were outstanding from start to finish. Their commitment to customer service is second to none. They showed up exactly when they said they would and worked diligently until the job was completed. The finished product looks fantastic, and the cleanup was so thorough that our property actually looked better than before they arrived. A special mention to Tyler, who did an excellent job walking us through the benefits and helping us feel confident in choosing this system. Overall, a great experience and highly recommended!

Interlock Metal Shingle Roof & Snow Guards Review — Owen Sound, ON (Installed 2017)

We installed an Interlock roof in 2017. The roof is still like new. Due to an insulation issue and snow depth of over 4 feet, we had an ice build up problem. Ken, Greg and Cheri provided consultation and prompt service in addressing the addition of snow guards. Their knowledgable and friendly service was greatly appreciated. We highly recommend both the product and the team.

Interlock Metal Roof Review - Burnaby, BC Metal Roofing (Installed 2024)

April 13, 2026

I recently had my 25 year old asphalt roof replaced with an Interlock Metal roof. I'm so very happy with my decision. In fact, best decision ever to have Interlock Industries install. The metal roof is manufactured in Delta, BC and they have their own installers. It's not panels! It looks very much like a cedar roof! Colour is awesome as well! My home is located in Victoria on Vancouver Island and looks great with my new roof! Interlock is a very professional business from contract signing to installation. Amazing crew that gets the job done in a timely manner. My roof looks fabulous. It's a work of art!!

Aurora, ON Metal Roofing Review — Interlock Installation (2016)

April 12, 2026

We moved into our new house in 1984. Our new house came with new 25 year shingles. In 2004, 20 years later we noticed that our roof shingles needed to be redone. Now, back in 1984 they used asbestos in the roof shingles and although at the time they said they were 25 year shingles, we were still happy to get 20 years out of them. So, in 2004 we got a quote and had the roof re-shingled. We paid extra for the 25 year shingles as we had such a good result with the original shingles. In 2016 (i.e. 12 years later) my neighbour told us that our shingles on the south side of the house were cracked with rolled up edges and needed to be replaced. (We can't see the south roof of our house unless we are visiting the neighbours.) The shingles on the north side were still ok, but since you can't really shingle half a roof we knew that we had to have the whole roof done...after just 12 years. We were a little upset about this and decided to go to the National Home Show in Toronto to look at alternatives. We met Tom Watson at the Interlock Metal Roofing booth and he took a lot of time and explained the complete roofing system to us. We liked what we saw and what was explained to us and we arranged to have a home visit from Interlock and to give us a quote. The metal roof was certainly a lot more expensive than a regular asphalt shingle roof, but we decided to get the metal roof anyways because we did not want the hassle of having to re-shingle every 10 or 11 years...and there are also some other unforeseen benefits detailed below that we did not know about at the time. The metal roof comes with a Lifetime Limited Warranty, 50 year transferable, not prorated so even though more expensive it adds value to lyour home because if in the future you are looking to sell, the buyer knows he won't have any roof problems for the 50 year life of the roof. Your roof becomes an asset instead of a liability. The installation happened over 4-5 days. I paid a lot of attention to what they were doing and how they were doing it. The roof vents were removed. These are the same roof vents that raccoons like to rip off for access to your attic, so that potential problem went away. A ridge vent (google it) was installed on the top of the roof and it is low profile and fits in so you would not know that it is there. Raccoons have been known to chew a hole in asphalt shingles and roofing plywood to get into your attic. With a metal roof, it isn't happening. That mode of access is eliminated. Now, with our previous asphalt shingles we had constant problems with raccoons pooping on our roof (sound familiar?) and for some reason, at least for the last 10 years that we have had the metal roof, that has not happened. I don't know why, but I can speculate that the raccoons find the metal roof very slippery and they are not comfortable being up there and doing their business while trying not to slide off the roof. Also, in the past we have had squirrels occasionally make their way through, under, beside our asphalt shingles and get into our attic. That will never happen with a metal roof because the whole roof is sealed and northing is getting that way. If you are concerned about high winds ripping off your shingles you don't have to worry with a metal roof. Each and every metal shingle is fastened to the roof with aluminum screws (note the metal roof shingles are painted and baked to a tough finish) and they are interlocked with each other, so you may lose your entire roof in a hurricane, but the metal shingles will still be attached to it. We moved into our new house in 1984. After about 2 years of sweating through humid summers, we installed an A/C system. Our new A/C system worked ok in that it removed the humidity and cooled the house, but with the high 37 deg C temperatures it was struggling. The A/C would run continuously and never stopped on those hot days, but once the metal roof was installed it cycled on and off as designed. We highly recommend Interlock Metal Roofing.

Willowbrook, IL Metal Roof Review — Interlock Roofing (Installed 2016)

April 11, 2026

We had our roofed replaced by Interlock Roofing in 2016. One of the best decisions we’ve ever made! Our roof looks like slate shingles but is entirely metal. We e received many compliments on it over the years Recently we had a lot of strong wind and hailstorms and our representative, John Mondeshean, checked in with us to see if we sustained any roof damage. He came out and inspected our roof for us within a day or two. Luckily we didn’t have any damage. I’ve been impressed by this company and their product from day one. John is the consummate professional. Our roof is now 10 years old and I still say it was the best investment! Highly recommend!
