Interlock Metal Shingle Roof Review — Gresham, OR: Quiet, Energy-Saving, Installed 2019

Gresham, OR

TL;DR: Gresham Review Summary

Roofing installation in Gresham: the homeowner replaced an old, failing roof affected by Pacific Northwest rain with an Interlock lifetime roof. After four months the roof is performing well—quiet in rain, has lowered heating bills, requires no moss cleaning—and the installers worked in the rain, kept the homeowner informed, and cleaned up daily.
Eugene L.

Living in the Pacific NW, we have a lot of rain and my old roof decided it was done. I checked into many types of new roofs and found this to be the best on the market. It has been on my house for 4 months and is doing a great job. When it rains, the roof is not noisy and we have noticed our heating bill has dropped. I like the fact that I don’t have to get on the roof anymore to clean the moss off it either. This is truly a lifetime roof. You will not meet a nicer group of installers either. They worked in the rain and kept me informed of what they were doing. They also cleaned up everyday so it didn’t look like a construction site. It was a pleasure doing business with Interlock.
Thank you.

Top 10 Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Gresham

Homeowners researching metal roofing in Gresham often have several important questions before replacing their roof. Many people want to understand how metal roofing compares to traditional materials like asphalt shingles in terms of lifespan, durability, cost, and long-term value. Roofing decisions can also be influenced by local weather conditions. Homes in Gresham may experience environmental factors such as rain, wind, snow, heat, fire, or seasonal storms that can impact roof performance over time. The following frequently asked questions help explain what homeowners should know when evaluating metal roofing and why many people choose durable roofing systems designed for long-term protection.

Metal roofs commonly last at least 50–75+ years, while asphalt shingles typically last 15–30 years, so metal is often chosen for long-term value. Gresham’s climate—wet, mild winters with roughly 40–50 inches of annual precipitation and only light seasonal snow—means roofs face persistent moisture, high humidity and frequent moss/algae growth, which shortens asphalt life but has less impact on well-coated metal panels. Occasional wind events and freeze–thaw cycles can stress fasteners and flashing, so durable underlayment and secure attachment matter. Homeowners in Gresham often choose metal for superior resistance to rot, moss and longer service life, reducing maintenance and replacement frequency. Interlock Metal Roofing systems use heavy-gauge aluminum and a lifetime limited 50-year transferable warranty designed for long-term protection.
In Gresham, OR, a metal roof generally costs more up front than asphalt shingles, but total cost varies widely. Price depends on roof size, pitch and complexity, required tear‑off, flashing and skylight work, and local labor and permit rates. Regional construction factors—permit fees, trades availability, and local code or wind/snow requirements—can also affect the final price. Many homeowners compare options based on lifetime value rather than initial price: metal roofing’s higher durability and lower maintenance can reduce future repair and replacement costs, offsetting the premium over time. When evaluating bids, look at warranties, expected service life, and whole‑life costs, not just the sticker price. Get a site‑specific estimate for accurate pricing. Interlock Metal Roofing focuses on long-term ownership value rather than competing as a low-cost roofing option.
Gresham’s climate is dominated by heavy, year‑round rainfall and persistent humidity—conditions that encourage moss/algae on shaded roofs and slow drying after storms. Winters are generally mild with only occasional light snow or brief freeze‑thaw events that can stress roofing materials. Lifespan: metal roofs typically last 40–70 years; asphalt shingles 15–30 years. Maintenance: metal needs periodic inspections and debris clearing; shingles require more frequent moss/algae cleaning and earlier replacement. Durability: metal resists rot, shedding moisture and standing up to wind; shingles can deteriorate faster in constant damp and shaded areas. Long‑term value: higher upfront cost for metal but lower life‑cycle cost and fewer replacements for moisture‑prone Gresham homes. Homeowners prioritizing long‑term protection and low upkeep often choose metal. Interlock Metal Roofing systems appeal in Gresham for durable weather resistance, clean lines, and lasting architectural curb appeal.
No — the idea that metal roofs are noisy in Gresham, OR, is a common myth. Modern residential metal roofs installed over solid decking and underlayment do not sound like barn roofs. Sound performance depends on insulation, attic cavity, underlayment and the overall roof assembly. A ventilated attic, proper insulation and high‑quality underlayment substantially reduce rain noise. Equally important is installation quality: fastener technique, deck attachment and sealing affect how much sound transmits indoors. Properly installed residential metal roofs are typically similar in sound to asphalt shingles or tile. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are installed as complete roofing systems engineered for homes, combining panels, flashings and accessories to optimize weatherproofing and acoustic performance.
In Gresham, OR, a metal roof can be energy efficient because metal roofing reflects sunlight and reduces summer heat gain. That benefit is tempered by local climate—Gresham’s cool, wet winters and mild summers mean reflective roofing helps during warmer spells but overall performance depends on the whole roof system. Roof assembly, insulation levels, and attic ventilation all strongly influence yearly energy use; a reflective metal roof with poor insulation or ventilation won’t yield expected savings. Homeowners researching replacement often prioritize energy efficiency to lower utility bills, improve year‑round comfort, reduce HVAC wear, and support sustainability goals. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are designed to work with proper assemblies to support long‑term home performance.
Gresham sits in the Portland metro’s wet, Pacific‑storm climate: heavy rain and seasonal wind gusts commonly reach 20–40+ mph, and the region sees occasional hail and storm events that can stress roofs. Metal roofing performs well in wind (low uplift when mechanically fastened or interlocked), sheds heavy rain and snow, and resists puncture from smaller hail—though large hail can dent depending on thickness and profile; local hail frequency has been documented in the Portland area. Actual performance depends on roofing system design, installation quality, and material durability (gauge, coating, seam design). Homeowners prioritize weather resilience to reduce leaks, storm damage, insurance claims, and long‑term repair costs. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are engineered for durability, enhanced hail protection, and wind resistance, but outcomes still rely on proper design and professional installation.
Metal roofing performance depends on the metal chosen—steel, zinc, copper and aluminum each behave differently with respect to corrosion. Some materials (for example, zinc, stainless steel and aluminum) resist corrosion far better than untreated carbon steel. Aluminum performs especially well in wet or coastal environments because it quickly forms a stable oxide layer that protects the underlying metal. Homeowners should consider corrosion resistance to extend roof life, reduce maintenance, prevent staining and leaks, and protect property value—important in Gresham’s wet climate. Interlock Metal Roofing systems use aluminum construction engineered for strong corrosion resistance and are finished with the Alunar Coating System for extra protection against moisture and environmental exposure. Choosing corrosion-resistant materials lowers long-term repair and replacement costs while improving reliability.
Metal roofing in Gresham, Oregon is generally considered low maintenance and highly durable, making it a strong choice for local rainy, windy conditions. However, no roof is completely maintenance-free. Homeowners should perform periodic inspections—especially after storms—and check for accumulated debris, clear gutters, examine flashing and sealants, and inspect roof penetrations (vents, skylights, chimneys) for secure flashing and caulking. Seasonal leaves and moss from nearby trees, plus winter freeze-thaw cycles or wind-driven rain, can affect performance if not addressed. Promptly remove debris, keep gutters flowing, and repair loose fasteners or damaged flashing to extend service life. Overall, metal roofs offer long-term durability with modest, regular upkeep.
In Gresham, OR, metal roofing can boost home value because buyers often prefer durable, low-maintenance roofs that reduce future expenses. Premium roofing materials also enhance curb appeal, making properties stand out in resale listings. The long lifespan of quality metal roofs improves buyer confidence by signaling fewer imminent repairs. Architectural style matters locally—what fits on a Craftsman in one Gresham neighborhood may differ from newer subdivisions—so compatibility with surrounding homes influences perceived value. Interlock Metal Roofing systems offer multiple architectural profiles, including slate, cedar shingle, Mediterranean tile, shake, and standing seam, available in heavy-gauge aluminum and solid copper, allowing homeowners to match local character while delivering lasting performance. This combination can translate to higher resale prices and faster sales in Gresham’s market.
As you compare roofing materials in Gresham, heavy annual rainfall and persistent humidity—conditions that encourage moss on shaded roofs while keeping snow loads low—are the main local factors to consider. Interlock Metal Roofing Systems are compatible with solar panels when custom solar brackets are installed by Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. Roof lifespan is critical when adding solar—panels last decades, so long‑lasting roofing (like interlock metal) is often preferred. Plan for future solar when replacing your roof; Interlock systems are designed to support solar mounting solutions and simplify long‑term installation and maintenance.

Metal Shingle Roof Review in Sudbury, ON (Interlock - Installed 2017)

Review: April 25, 2026

Completion: June 7, 2018

We had our roof replaced in 2017 with an aluminum roof by Interlock Metal Roofing. We live on the lake, and prior to the replacement, we were spending thousands of dollars every year because shingles would fly off in the wind.

We haven’t had any issues in the past 7 years. Our experience with Interlock Metal Roofing was excellent — they were very professional and did a beautiful job, even though our roof is quite high and challenging.

Our roof still looks beautiful, and we haven’t had to worry about it at all in the past 9 years.

Corvallis, OR Metal Shingle Roof Review — Interlock (Installed 2017)

Review: April 24, 2026

Completion: November 9, 2017

I love my Interlock roof! No more climbing up to clean it, and no more gritty debris falling into my garden after a few years. It looks fantastic and performs exactly as it should.

The installers were excellent—knowledgeable, detail-oriented, and personable. Ivan is a gem! He handled a small flashing addition efficiently and cleaned the entire roof with a blower in no time.

After almost ten years, it’s still the only roof I would choose.

I recently had my 25 year old asphalt roof replaced with an Interlock Metal roof. I'm so very happy with my decision. In fact, best decision ever to have Interlock Industries install. The metal roof is manufactured in Delta, BC and they have their own installers. It's not panels! It looks very much like a cedar roof! Colour is awesome as well! My home is located in Victoria on Vancouver Island and looks great with my new roof! Interlock is a very professional business from contract signing to installation. Amazing crew that gets the job done in a timely manner. My roof looks fabulous. It's a work of art!!

Metal Shingle Roof Review in New Bedford, MA — Interlock (Installed 2005)

Review: March 10, 2026

Completion: February 5, 2005

We had our whole house done by Interlock in 2005, we've only had one issue (wind damage) and they came out the next day to repair the damage. At the time we left a small overhang undone with plans of removing it, however our plans changed and the roof had deteriorated with the passing of time. I called and they were very receptive to coming out to inspect and then replace. The work was done quickly, on time and to my complete satisfaction. I highly recommend Interlock, you wont be sorry!

Completion: July 8, 2011

We had our Interlock Metal Roof installed in 2011 and recently experienced some damage to the flashing. I called and spoke with Cheri, the Office and Service Department Administrator, who promptly scheduled Brad to assess the issue at the next available time. Despite one of the coldest winter days, Brad repaired the flashing efficiently and at no charge. I may be biased, but every time I pull into our driveway, I truly believe we have the best roof on our street. I would highly recommend Interlock Metal Roofing (Ontario) Ltd.

Beaverton, OR Aluminum Shingles Repair Review — Gutter Pulled Corner Flashing, Fast Response

Review: January 20, 2026

Completion: August 10, 2001

Fast response and excellent work. The technician drop by within couple of days, found the cause, and provided quote. The price was reasonable for the work scope. They were able to secure the work slot as soon as the raining season was over and kept me informed on the schedule. In addition, they inspected remaining roof as well. Note: the leak was due to gutter pulling the corner flashing. The 10+ year Interlock roof tile remained good.

Toronto, ON Metal Roof Review: Excellent Service & Solar Vent (2023)

Review: December 17, 2025

Completion: November 29, 2023

Had a metal roof installed a couple of years ago and love it. Had some issues lately and Ken (service technician and great guy) came to see the problem. He checked the roof and found no issues there. He then asked if he could go into the attic to have a look. When in the attic he noticed a few things including some missing insulation over the area that was having the issue. He re-spread the insulation and did a few other things as well which he thinks may resolve the problem. They also suggested adding a solar vent to move more air in the attic and came the next day to install it. Hopefully the problem is now resolved and I know that the roof is secure and also know that should I need more service they will promptly return. If considering a metal roof, contract these good folks!

Oakville, ON Metal Shingle Roof Review — Interlock Aluminum PVDF (2024)

Review: December 16, 2025

Completion: September 11, 2024

I have a new roof installed by Interlock and very pleased with the professionalism and aesthetics. My builder roof lasted 12 years and I needed something more durable. I spent months talking to steel roof installers and the thing that bothered me most, is whether the company will be around long enough to support warranty issues. The coatings were also prone to fading and I was looking for a worry free product.

My research led me to select aluminum roofing with PVDF coating for durability and resistance to Color fade. The lifetime transferable warranty and fact that Interlock has been in business for over 40 years led me to contact the company.

Interlock staff are courteous and Bruce gave a very fair price with a no pressure quote. My roof has some features that could affect aesthetics and Bruce arranged for special considerations at those locations. The installers were very courteous, and took the time necessary to do a great installation. They respected my views as a home owner and provided regular updates on progress and solutions. The installers cleaned up debris at the end of each day and coordinated with my neighbours to minimize impact from the roofing job. When rain was in the forecast the crew worked tirelessly to complete roofing sections that would be vulnerable to rainfall.

Overall I am pleased with everyone’s efforts and now hope the roof will be durable for many years.

Codys NB Metal Shingles Review — Leak-Free, Repair-Friendly Roof Install

Review: December 4, 2025

Completion: December 8, 2025

These wonderful folks managed to fit my new roof installation in right at the end of the year on a short timeline so that I could get solar panels installed as well. The team on site were friendly, professional, and clearly took a lot of pride in their work. The new roof looks great (and no longer leaks!). The metal shingles give me a lot more peace of mind, especially since they don't require removing an entire metal sheet to repair
