Jonathan, Thank you, Interlock Roofing, for providing a high-quality product and professional installation from which we will receive years of permanent protection from the elements. In addition, the really great thing is how the new roof has transformed this flat-roof ’60s Seattle house! We’re not in the ’60s anymore. We’ve just completed the worst Seattle winter in 30 years, and the application and quality of the materials is beyond expectations. We have been enjoying the roof through the high winter winds and rain and " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hail and snow of the Pacific Northwest. People ask if it is noisy when it rains. It is even quieter than the old roof we just replaced. The installation only took about four days. Vladimir and Greg, our installers, were very friendly and worked diligently. They took the time to explain what they were going to do and how they were going to do it. Their craftsmanship really shows on the finished roof, even down to the trim around the chimney. It looks great! There is no moss, no mold, and no fir needles. We won’t hesitate to recommend Interlock Roofing whenever we have an opportunity. This company has developed a product that really measures up to everything it advertises.

Top 10 Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Des Moines

Homeowners researching metal roofing in Des Moines often have several important questions before replacing their roof. Many people want to understand how metal roofing compares to traditional materials like asphalt shingles in terms of lifespan, durability, cost, and long-term value. Roofing decisions can also be influenced by local weather conditions. Homes in Des Moines may experience environmental factors such as rain, wind, snow, heat, fire, or seasonal storms that can impact roof performance over time. The following frequently asked questions help explain what homeowners should know when evaluating metal roofing and why many people choose durable roofing systems designed for long-term protection.

How long will a metal roof last in Des Moines, WA?

Metal roofs in Des Moines commonly last 50–75+ years, while asphalt shingles typically have shorter lifespans (often around 15–30 years), so metal is favored when longevity matters. Des Moines sits on Puget Sound and has wet winters with fairly high annual precipitation, which increases moisture exposure and encourages moss/organic growth on some roof materials. The maritime setting also brings coastal moisture, salt‑laden air at times, and occasional strong winds—conditions that stress fasteners, coatings, and less-durable materials. Because of persistent dampness but mild freeze–thaw extremes, homeowners in Des Moines often choose durable, corrosion‑resistant systems that resist moisture, wind uplift, and biological growth. Interlock Metal Roofing systems use heavy‑gauge aluminum and come with a lifetime limited 50‑year transferable warranty, making them a strong long‑term choice for local conditions.

How much does it cost to install a metal roof in Des Moines, WA?

In Des Moines, WA, a metal roof typically costs more upfront than asphalt shingles, but exact pricing varies widely. Factors that influence cost include roof size, slope and complexity, the need for tear-off, flashing and skylight work, and local labor rates. Local construction factors — permitting, material availability, prevailing labor costs and weather-related installation requirements — can also raise or lower bids. Many homeowners evaluate roofing options on lifetime value rather than initial price: metal roofs often last longer and resist damage, which can reduce future repair and replacement expenses. A more durable roofing system may therefore lower long-term ownership costs even if the initial investment is higher. Interlock Metal Roofing prioritizes long-term ownership value and performance over competing as the lowest-cost option, focusing on durable installations that minimize maintenance and replacement needs over time.

Should I choose metal roofing or asphalt shingles for my Des Moines home?

Des Moines sits on Puget Sound with a maritime climate—mild, wet winters and persistent coastal moisture and humidity that encourage moss/algae growth and frequent rain; occasional strong wind gusts also occur and can stress roof attachments. Lifespan: metal roofs typically last 40–70+ years; asphalt shingles 20–30 years. Maintenance: asphalt needs regular moss/algae cleaning, patching, and more frequent replacement; metal is lower‑maintenance but benefits from periodic seam/fastener checks and quality coatings near salty air. Durability: metal better resists wind uplift, rot and moisture-related damage; shingles are more vulnerable to granule loss, curling and biological growth. Long‑term value: higher upfront cost for metal is offset by longer service life and lower life‑cycle expenses for homeowners prioritizing durability and long‑term protection. Interlock Metal Roofing appeals in Des Moines because interlocking seams improve leak and uplift resistance, reduce maintenance, and deliver lasting architectural curb appeal.

Are metal roofs noisy when it rains in Des Moines?

This is a common myth: metal roofs are noisy when it rains in Des Moines, WA. Modern residential metal roofs installed over solid decking do not sound like barn roofs. When properly built, a metal roof is part of a complete roof assembly—underlayment, insulation, and attic space dampen impact noise, and the roof deck prevents the resonant hollowness associated with outbuildings. Insulation levels, attic cavity, and the full roof assembly affect perceived sound, and installation quality (fastening, spacing, flashing and underlayment) matters. Properly installed residential metal roofs typically sound similar to other roofing materials during rain. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are installed as complete roofing systems specifically designed for residential homes, integrating panels and accessories to control noise.

How energy-efficient are metal roofs in Des Moines?

Yes — in Des Moines, WA, a metal roof can be energy efficient. Metal roofing can reflect sunlight, reducing solar heat gain in summer. Overall energy performance also depends on the roof assembly, insulation levels, and attic ventilation; a reflective metal roof without adequate insulation or ventilation won’t deliver maximum savings. Local climate—cool, wet winters and mild summers—shapes the balance of heating and cooling benefits, so annual savings vary. Homeowners researching roof replacement often consider energy efficiency to lower utility bills, improve indoor comfort, qualify for rebates, and increase resale value while choosing durable materials. Local roofing professionals can provide modeled energy savings and information on eligible incentives in Des Moines. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are designed to support long-term home performance.

How does metal roofing in Des Moines, WA withstand wind, hail, and severe weather?

Q: How does metal roofing perform in Des Moines, WA severe weather? Des Moines sits on Puget Sound with wet, rainy winters, occasional snow and coastal windstorms; hail and intense storms can occur though are less frequent than rain. Properly designed and installed metal roofs shed rain and snow, resist wind uplift, and offer good impact resistance versus many shingle roofs; however real performance depends on system design, installation quality, and material durability. Homeowners weigh weather resilience to reduce leaks, maintenance, insurance claims, and to extend service life. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are engineered for durability, hail protection, and wind resistance, and when paired with correct fastening and flashing details they provide strong protection for Des Moines’ coastal and winter weather conditions.

Will a metal roof rust or corrode in Des Moines's wet climate?

Corrosion and rust resistance vary by metal: steel, galvanized or galvalume, and aluminum perform differently. Performance depends on alloy, coatings and exposure; some metals corrode faster in wet, salty or acidic environments while others resist it. Aluminum is naturally corrosion-resistant and ideal for wet or coastal areas because it forms a protective oxide layer and remains lightweight. Homeowners should consider corrosion resistance to avoid leaks, structural damage, costly repairs, and shorter roof lifespans—especially in Des Moines, WA’s maritime-influenced climate. Interlock Metal Roofing systems use aluminum construction engineered for strong corrosion resistance and are further protected by the Alunar Coating System for extra protection against moisture, salt, and wear. Choosing corrosion-resistant materials reduces maintenance and preserves home value.

How often should I inspect and maintain my metal roof in Des Moines?

Metal roofing in Des Moines, Washington is generally a low‑maintenance, durable choice. However, no roof is completely maintenance‑free — periodic homeowner checks are important. Inspect after storms and seasonally for accumulated debris (leaves, branches), clear gutters, and remove anything that could trap moisture. Check flashing, sealants, fasteners, roof penetrations (vents, skylights, chimneys) and roof edges for looseness, corrosion, or gaps. Heavy winter storms, wind, salt air near Puget Sound, and seasonal debris can affect performance and lifespan. Routine visual inspections and simple upkeep—clearing debris and ensuring gutters and flashings are sound—help prevent problems and preserve metal roofing’s long service life.

How does curb appeal affect my home's resale value in Des Moines?

In Des Moines, WA, metal roofing can increase home value. Buyers often prioritize durable, low‑maintenance roofs that reduce future repair costs and insurance concerns. Premium roofing materials also enhance curb appeal, making a home stand out in local listings. The long lifespan of metal roofing—plus strong warranties—boosts buyer confidence and can justify a higher asking price. Architectural style matters: a roof that complements the neighborhood’s character will have more resale impact than a mismatched modern profile. Interlock Metal Roofing systems offer multiple architectural profiles—slate, cedar shingle, Mediterranean tile, shake, and standing seam—available in heavy‑gauge aluminum and solid copper, allowing homeowners in Des Moines to choose a durable, attractive option that fits local aesthetics and market expectations.

Can I install solar panels on my Interlock Metal Roofing System in Des Moines?

Q: Can solar panels be installed on Interlock Metal Roofing Systems in Des Moines, WA? A: Yes. Interlock Metal Roofing Systems are compatible with solar installation when fitted with custom solar brackets installed by Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. Des Moines’s Puget Sound–influenced climate brings high rainfall (about 39 in./yr) and persistent coastal moisture, increasing corrosion and moss risk, so corrosion‑resistant, long‑lasting roofing and properly sealed mounts are important. Long-lasting roofing materials are often preferred when installing solar because they reduce the chance of re-roofing under panels. Roof lifespan matters when adding panels; plan for future solar when replacing a roof, and Interlock systems are designed to support solar mounting solutions.
