Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Medicine Hat, Alberta
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
Interlock Metal Roofing were excellent to work with. They accommodated our travel plans and got the job done despite the rain. The installers, Yorman and Kevin worked professionally and answered any of our questions. The roof looks amazing, and now we don’t have to worry about reroofing our home again, and the lifetime warranty is transferable to a new owner once we decide to sell.
Absolutely wonderful. Professional courteousand clean. Across the street got their roof done in asphalt shingles it took longer and was way messier then ours.
I'm not sure that there was good communication between the initial assessors and the installation crew.
The salesperson first time he come to my house he with not friendly he was mad
We felt Deevarte should not have been working alone, as we were gone all day at work if he fell from our roof there would have been no one there to help him.
Nothing, They were courteous and professional. I was very impressed with the installer, he did it by himself. There was no mess in the yard like previous companies have done.
If it would have been warmer weather I think the clean up would have been better.
The only way Interlock Roofing could have improved on this project would have been to do it for free. Every aspect of this installation was handled in a friendly and professional manner, resulting in an expert installation. We couldn't be happier!! After dealing with the staff at Interlock, and seeing the finished roof, we don't know why everyone doesn't have an aluminum roof. The initial capital outlay is high, but with the 50 year guarantee, it works out to be much cheaper in the long run than replacing asphalt shingles two or three times. It may suffer dents from hail, but then we're going to tell people we paid extra to have that distressed slate finish! We're very happy with the finished product, and have already received numerous compliments on our new roof.Thank you!!
Keeping customers informed as to delays and start date. Very happy with our roof you just need to take the payment.
I noticed that there was some black wood that was stained. I took it among myself that it would be replaced, but they just screwed down a lot of the wood that was loose. I wondered why they didn't replace the black wood, but I didn't ask. I trust that it isn't rotten because they didn't replace it and they told me it wasn't rotten. We are really very pleased with the roof. Overall, I am really very happy with it. It makes the house look really nice. Matthew said that if he is in the area he will come back and take a picture of the house to advertise it.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Medicine Hat
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Medicine Hat, Alberta. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Medicine Hat.
Will a metal roof hold up to Medicine Hat's freeze-thaw cycles?
Yes — aluminum's self-healing oxide layer actually thrives in freeze-thaw conditions. With about 99 freeze-thaw days per year and roughly 83 cm of snow, your roof sees real stress, but roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) won't crack, split, or corrode as traditional materials do. The four-way interlocking panels shed water and ice without trapping moisture in seams. Over 25+ years of installations from coastal to extreme climates, we've seen zero freeze-thaw failures in aluminum systems. That's why the Guardian Warranty specifically covers cracking and splitting — because it doesn't happen.
How does a metal roof handle heavy snow loads?
Metal roofs shed snow efficiently, and Interlock's four-way interlocking panels lock together so tightly that wind-driven snow can't infiltrate seams — a real advantage during Medicine Hat's 125 km/h wind gusts. The smooth surface reduces friction, helping snow and ice slide away naturally rather than damming up. About 83 cm of snow per year is manageable on a properly pitched roof without accumulation issues. If you live in a steep-roofed home or want guaranteed snow retention, Interlock installs snow guards to the same spec. The lightweight aluminum (Shake profile at 0.58 lb/sq ft) means no structural worry — your home carries the load with zero reinforcement needed, unlike slate or concrete tile.
Does a metal roof rust?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. When aluminum is exposed to air, it forms a thin oxide layer that actually heals itself when scratched — it won't rust or stain like steel roofs do. Even in salt-air environments, the Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish (applied to both sides) protects for 30 years against chalking and fading. Medicine Hat's dry climate with about 274 mm of rain annually is far less harsh than coastal conditions where we've installed thousands of roofs without corrosion. The Guardian Warranty explicitly covers rusting — an unlimited promise the manufacturer wouldn't make on steel. Aluminum wins outright here.
Can a metal roof survive Medicine Hat's wind gusts?
Absolutely. Medicine Hat averages daily winds around 19 km/h with gusts recorded to 125 km/h, and Interlock roofs are warranted to resist 120 mph (193 km/h) winds when installed to specification. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels lock at all sides — not just down — so individual panels can't lift or separate. ICC-ES evaluation ESR-1790 confirms compliance with IBC/IRC wind uplift standards. We've installed these roofs through prairie storms across Alberta since 1999 with zero wind-related failures. Your neighborhood likely has metal roofs already holding up; ours simply outperform the rest because the mechanical interlock leaves no weak points.
Will a metal roof dent in hail, and can it lower my insurance?
Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating — the highest available — and the warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This rating means your roof withstands the same impacts that destroy asphalt or wood. Many insurers recognize Class 4 impact resistance and offer discounts; you'll want to call your agent with the UL rating and product specs. Hail risk in Medicine Hat is real, but a metal roof that won't perforate often qualifies for lower premiums than asphalt over its 25- to 50-year life. The Guardian Warranty backs impact resistance for life, so you're covered both ways — no repair bills and no coverage denials.
Does a metal roof reduce cooling costs?
energy-efficient Interlock colors with emissivity of 0.84 and solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny) reflect heat that asphalt absorbs, reducing your air-conditioning load in summer. Medicine Hat enjoys about 3367 hours of sunshine per year, so a reflective roof makes real dollars over time. Cool Roof Rating Council certification confirms performance. Paired with about 274 mm of annual rain and excellent drainage, your attic stays cooler without moisture. Lighter colors outperform dark asphalt noticeably; over a 30-year roof life, energy savings compound significantly. You won't see winter heating changes, but summer cooling cuts are measurable and verified by independent rating councils.
How long does a metal roof last, and what's the warranty?
Interlock metal roofs are installed to last 40 to 50+ years, backed by the Guardian Warranty — a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. Unlike prorated warranties that decline over time, this one stays full strength. The warranty transfers once, giving the next owner 50 years from completion, adding resale appeal in Medicine Hat's market. Aluminum construction and the 30-year Alunar fluorocarbon finish (ASTM D4214/D2244 rated) ensure color and coating integrity through about 99 freeze-thaw cycles annually. That's the only roof you'll install — no tear-off, no replacement headache.
How is a metal roof installed, and can it go over my existing roof?
Interlock installs over most existing roofs without tear-off — a huge cost and time saving. Your installer (Interlock Metal Roofing Alberta Ltd., serving this region since 1999) attaches new panels directly over old shingles, asphalt, or even some tile. The lightweight aluminum (Mediterranean Tile profile at just 0.59 lb/sq ft, about 96% lighter than concrete tile) needs zero structural reinforcement. Installation typically takes days, not weeks. No roofing dust covers your property, no disposal costs, and you avoid landfill waste immediately. If a tear-off is needed, we do it; if not, we save you money and time. Your installer will walk the roof, confirm deck condition, and outline the exact process before work begins.
Is metal roofing better for the environment?
Yes. Interlock aluminum is about 95% recyclable at end-of-life — it returns to the aluminum stream indefinitely without degradation. Asphalt shingles, by contrast, end up in landfills by the millions of tons annually because they can't be recycled. Installing over your existing roof (possible with Interlock's lightweight design) eliminates the tear-off and landfill cycle immediately. Over Medicine Hat's 99 freeze-thaw days per year, traditional asphalt deteriorates faster; you replace it sooner, generating more waste. Interlock's 40- to 50-year lifespan means one installation instead of 3–4 asphalt cycles. You'll never tear off and dump another roof; your one metal roof replaces generations of shingles. CALGreen verification confirms reduced maintenance and environmental benefit.
Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost?
Over the roof's life, metal is cheaper. Asphalt lasts 15–20 years in freeze-thaw climates like Medicine Hat (99 such days annually); you'll replace it 2–3 times before an Interlock roof ever needs replacement. Material cost, labor, disposal, and disruption multiply with each tear-off. Metal's no-maintenance design saves annual inspections, repairs, and emergency patching. Current regional promotion: interest-free payments for 3 months and at least $2499 savings on installation. The Guardian Warranty eliminates future roofing costs for the original owner (lifetime) and the next owner (50 years). Resale value climbs; insurance may drop with Class 4 hail rating. Calculate the math: one installation beats three asphalt cycles every time.
