Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Knutsford, British Columbia
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
From the estimator to the installers, everyone at Interlock has been fantastic to work with, great communication, Vlad and his install team were outstanding, efficient, and take great pride in their workmanship. Highly recommend! Great product, great team, outstanding service.
Other than the pricing, I do not see any other areas that need improvement. I would highly recommend Interlock Roofing.
There were no areas they needed to improve on. I couldn't be happier with my roof.
The installer who did the job was terrible and when i asked the supervisor to come to site he disregarded my assessment and let the teeruable workmanship continue, this caused many problems and lots of rework and leakes Because the shingles debt so easy you should engineer a system that installs from the peak downward so the installer does not dent every shingle by walking on them
I would like to move forward on getting the roof done
lack of communication from office staff, did not use preferred mode of communication.
I got an email correspondence that was a chain of a conversation. There was someone in the office that was quite rude and made us seem like a problem customer with the finances. The timeline and project management didn't go quite as expected. The materials weren't there right away, so there was some disorganization. A really big strength was in resolving problems and sticking with it.
It is a great product, just beyond our means and not suitable for our particular project at this time.
Communication and timing of installation. The roof looks great! I look forward to getting the final snow guards in the spring.
I think they could do better with capping off the ends of the levels. I think they should be wrapping the interlocking completely around so there are no open spaces left at the ends of the roof. I think its a fantastic roof.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Knutsford
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Knutsford, British Columbia. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Knutsford.
Will a metal roof handle Knutsford's snow load without ice dams?
Yes — aluminum's four-way interlocking panels shed snow and ice far more reliably than asphalt. With about 120 cm of snow per year and 121 freeze-thaw days annually, your roof cycles between wet and frozen conditions constantly. Metal's smooth, hard surface prevents snow from bonding; water runs off instead of pooling behind ice dams that trap moisture and rot wood. Snow guards are available if you want to manage accumulation on steep pitches. The lightweight design—Slate at 0.41 lb/sq ft—means no structural overload even under peak snow weight.
How does aluminum stand up to Knutsford's freeze-thaw cycling?
Aluminum thrives in freeze-thaw climates because it has no water-absorbing material that cracks when frozen. With 121 freeze-thaw days per year in Knutsford, asphalt and wood roofing deteriorate from moisture penetration and expansion—but aluminum's oxide layer remains stable through infinite cycles. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating protects against weathering on both sides of the panel, backed by a 30-year fade and chalk warranty measured to ASTM standards. Your metal roof will outlast the building's wood structure in these conditions.
Can an aluminum metal roof rust in Knutsford's climate?
No—aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. When scratched, its oxide layer self-heals invisibly, making it immune to the corrosion that plagues steel roofs. Knutsford receives about 315 mm of rain yearly, so moisture exposure is constant, but your roof won't develop the orange staining or structural degradation that iron-based metals suffer. The roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) is the same material used on Antarctic research stations and coastal homes—if it survives salt air, it handles rain without complaint.
Is a metal roof secure in Knutsford's windstorms?
Absolutely. The four-way interlocking panels resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification—far beyond Knutsford's typical gusts of 11 km/h mean with occasional peaks around 97 km/h. The interlocking design distributes lateral stress across the entire roof rather than relying on fasteners alone. Your warranty covers wind damage to 120 mph, so even severe gust events won't leave you unprotected. Metal roofing has zero risk of wind-lifted shingles or torn sections that asphalt experiences in the region's most aggressive weather.
What hail protection does an Interlock metal roof provide?
Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4, the highest hail rating available—your roof is warranted against perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Class 4 means impact strength that concrete and asphalt cannot match. Many insurers recognize this and offer discounts on comprehensive or home policies; contact your agent with the UL 2218 certification. Given Knutsford's 85 cm annual snowfall and 121 freeze-thaw days, hail risk is real, and a Class 4 roof eliminates the claim frequency and deductibles that plague homeowners with softer materials.
Does a metal roof need structural reinforcement under my house?
No structural reinforcement is needed. The Mediterranean Tile profile weighs just 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so it installs directly over most existing roofs without engineering or framing upgrades. Even the Shake at 0.58 lb/sq ft is negligible compared to asphalt's weight. Your home's existing structure, built to support far heavier materials, will easily bear an Interlock metal roof. This weight advantage cuts installation cost and means faster scheduling because carpenters don't need to reinforce trusses or add sistering.
What warranty covers an Interlock metal roof, and is it really transferable?
The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—coverage for rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance lasts your ownership. When you sell, the warranty transfers once, giving the next owner 50 years from completion. This transferability increases home value because buyers see genuine durability backed by decades of coverage, not a ticking clock. Combined with aluminum that won't rust and a 30-year coating warranty on the Alunar finish, you're buying a roof that outlasts most mortgages and protects the next household too.
How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood?
Metal roofing requires virtually zero maintenance—no gutter cleaning from granule shedding, no replacing cracked or curled shingles, no moss treatment. Asphalt sheds 4–6 lb per 1000 sq ft annually into gutters; wood shake splits and needs sealing every 5–10 years. Your Interlock roof stays intact, and CALGreen verification documents the reduced-maintenance advantage. With 315 mm rain and 85 cm snow per year, your gutters will run cleaner, and your roof won't deteriorate from the moisture cycling that forces asphalt and wood replacement every 15–20 years. One inspection every 5 years is all professionals recommend.
Will an Interlock metal roof reduce cooling costs in summer?
Yes, energy-efficient colors reflect solar heat before it enters your attic. With initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, Cool Roof Rating Council certified colors reduce the cooling load asphalt absorbs—critical on Knutsford's 3295 annual sunshine hours. The difference compounds: reflective metal stays 50–70°F cooler than dark asphalt on sunny days, reducing air-conditioning runtime and extending compressor life. Darker profiles like Aged Copper Penny deliver both aesthetic warmth and meaningful energy savings. Over a 50-year lifespan, this efficiency gain alone justifies the metal investment.
Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt over the long term?
Yes—metal is the last roof you'll buy. Asphalt costs less upfront but fails every 15–20 years; three asphalt replacements over 50 years means three tear-offs, three sets of labor, three disposal fees, plus interior damage from leaks. One Interlock roof lasts longer than all three combined, with a transferable 50-year warranty and zero replacement risk. Current promotion offers interest-free payments for 3 months and saves at least $2499 on installation. Factor in zero maintenance, no insurance claims from hail or wind, energy savings, and resale value—metal recycles the upfront cost into decades of certainty that asphalt never provides.
Is a metal roof a good choice for Knutsford’s climate?
Yes. Knutsford averages about 85 cm of snow, 315 mm of rain, roughly 121 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 97 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
