Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for View Royal, British Columbia
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
Interlock Metal Roofing could improve by providing more status updates. My experience was pretty smooth and straightforward. No one has brought the sign that we are supposed to display, but everything was great.

The communication during the installation and when the wind deficiencies were found in my roof was not handled well. I had to go into my attic myself to verify whether the work they claimed was done had actually been completed — and several times, it wasn’t. They had to come back multiple times, and I had to adjust how I communicated just to make sure we could finally get everything resolved.
The delivery of materials via Comox... was odd, spotty, and slow. You have me on record after talking with your office. Your response was very good.
Well, it's only been two or three weeks, so we don't know about the quality or if there are going to be any leaks. There are some troubling signs because there is some damage to the flashing in front of the garage, and we are trying to contact Interlock, but we don't seem to get any response from them. That is pretty troubling at this point. Communication would be number one, and also timing and schedule. Overall, it was not a bad experience, but there are still some things that they need to fix. I hope that somebody from the company is going to contact us and schedule that little fix. It's not a big deal, but it has to be done.
Quality product, good reputation is better and referrals, better than glossy brochure advertising. No follow up with Randal after installation. Thank you for the opportunity to provide feedback. Overall very satisfied with Interlock. I found at least 6 roofing nails left on the driveway after roof installation. Walked, swept and blew driveway to ensure it was clear.
I can not think of anything that Interlock Metal Roofing could have done better.
Great crew, and quality workmanship. Communication and scheduling could be improved.
My husband and I debated for some time as whether or not to replace our aging roof with a metal roof or go with the standard asphalt shingles. We’re so happy we decided to go with the metal roof as it turned out better than our expectations and doesn’t take away from the contemporary house style. We appreciated that the original meet and greet started with the estimate right up front and then led into the details of the roof color choices., etc. The roofers were hard working and professional and did a great job of cleaning up the yard daily. We highly recommend this company!
Everyone who sees the roof admires it, so it speaks for itself. Everything was perfect except I forgot to ask them to reinstall a downpipe on the roof. We both overlooked it. I will do so shortly. The roof of my house and double garage looks amazing and draws many compliments.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in View Royal
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in View Royal, British Columbia. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in View Royal.
Why doesn't aluminum metal roofing rust like steel, and does that matter on Vancouver Island?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes and corrodes. Instead, aluminum develops a thin, self-healing oxide layer that protects it from further damage, even when scratched. View Royal's coastal salt air and 1111 mm of annual rainfall would destroy steel within years, but this roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy handles salt exposure reliably. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating on both panel sides adds a 30-year warranty against chalking, giving you two layers of protection where steel would need constant maintenance.
How does a metal roof handle View Royal's winter snow and ice buildup?
View Royal averages about 41 cm of snow annually and around 22 freeze-thaw cycles per year—conditions that make ice dam prevention critical. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels shed water and snow efficiently because the smooth metal surface doesn't trap moisture like asphalt. The panels can be installed with snow guards to control sliding on steeper pitches. The lightweight design means snow load never strains your structure the way concrete or clay tile would, and the smooth finish prevents ice from bonding as aggressively as rougher materials.
Will a metal roof stay put in View Royal's windy conditions?
Yes. View Royal experiences typical daily winds around 21 km/h with gusts reaching 107 km/h, and this roof is warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. The four-way interlocking panels lock together at all edges, distributing wind load across the entire roof system rather than relying on fasteners alone. The warranty specifically covers wind performance, so you're protected against the gusts that can lift standard shingles or damage tile.
Does a metal roof help with energy costs in this climate?
energy-efficient colors with a solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84 reflect sunlight rather than absorbing it the way asphalt does. View Royal gets about 3130 sunshine hours per year, so a reflective metal roof measurably reduces cooling demand. Cool Roof Rating Council certification proves the thermal performance in real-world conditions. While View Royal's mean temperature of 10.1°C doesn't demand aggressive cooling, the reflective finish still lowers summer peak loads, reduces heat transfer into living spaces, and qualifies you for energy-efficiency recognition—a point many buyers notice.
What maintenance does a metal roof really need compared to asphalt or wood shakes?
Aluminum roofing needs virtually no maintenance—no algae treatment, no wood sealing, no seasonal inspections for rot or curl. Asphalt shingles degrade from UV and require replacement every 15–20 years; wood shakes split and decay, especially in View Royal's 1111 mm annual rainfall and freeze-thaw environment. This roof's Alunar coating is warranted for 30 years against chalking and fading, so appearance stays consistent. Occasional leaf clearing from valleys is standard for any roof, but you won't spend weekends resealing, replacing damaged shakes, or monitoring for weather damage like you would with traditional materials.
What's the hail rating on this metal roof, and can it lower insurance costs?
The roof carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Class 4 means the aluminum doesn't dent, crack, or lose impact resistance the way asphalt or wood would. Many insurers recognize this durability and offer premium discounts for Class 4 roofs because claims for hail damage are rare. While View Royal isn't a hail hotspot, the protection is built in. Ask your insurer about discounts; several carriers acknowledge the impact rating in their underwriting.
What's the warranty on this roof, and how long will it actually last?
The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance with no gradual coverage reduction. It's transferable once, giving the next homeowner an additional 50 years of coverage from installation completion. No asphalt roof comes close to this term. Real-world installations range from coastal salt-air homes to an Antarctic research station, all installed since 1998, proving durability across extreme climates. This is genuinely the last roof you'll buy for your home.
How long does installation take, and can you install it over my existing roof?
Installation timeline depends on roof size and complexity, typically a few days for a standard residential job. The lightweight design—the Cedar Shingle profile installs at 0.41 lb/sq ft—allows installation directly over most existing roofs without structural reinforcement, saving tear-off costs and landfill waste. An ice-and-water shield and solid deck underlayment ensure the finished product is as quiet as asphalt in heavy rain. View Royal's 1111 mm annual rainfall means proper deck prep and underlayment are non-negotiable; Interlock Metal Roofing (BC) Ltd., serving this region since 1983, handles that detail as standard. Ask for a site visit to confirm your home's specific requirements.
Does metal roofing come in styles that don't look like metal?
Yes. Five profiles are available: Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Mediterranean Tile, and Standing Seam. Each replicates traditional architectural materials with texture and dimension in a metal panel format. The Slate and Cedar Shingle profiles suit classic Vancouver Island homes; Shake and Tile work well for heritage or contemporary designs; Standing Seam appeals to modern aesthetics. All use the same four-way interlocking aluminum core, so you're choosing appearance, not compromising durability. The profiles are manufactured in Delta, BC, so lead times are predictable and local.
How does the cost of metal roofing compare to asphalt over the life of the roof?
Metal costs more upfront but is priced as a one-time investment. Asphalt lasts 15–20 years and requires replacement, removal, and landfill fees—you repeat that cycle 2–3 times in the lifespan of a metal roof. The lifetime Guardian Warranty eliminates worry about coverage gaps, and aluminum is ~95% recyclable, so end-of-life has value rather than landfill cost. Current promotions include interest-free payments for 3 months and savings of at least $2499 on installation. Calculate the total cost of two or three asphalt replacements plus labor, removal, and waste fees against a single metal installation—the metal roof wins decisively over 40+ years, plus you avoid the disruption.
Is a metal roof a good choice for View Royal’s climate?
Yes. View Royal averages about 41 cm of snow, 1111 mm of rain, roughly 22 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 107 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
