What our customers are saying:
They could have improved on the follow-up communication after the job was done. There were just some outstanding things that needed to be fixed, and I had to reach out to them several times.
The process was not always comfortable. The salesperson is usually the person representing the first experience with the company. In reality we had the salesperson come out a year before to give a quote the experience left us unimpressed so we did not move forward. A year later I filled out a request for a quote and was surprised it was the same salesperson. I thought it was a different company but I was mistaken. His demeanour was slightly improved during the initial stages of the quote process. But communication became an issue as the supply of materials delayed the job for almost a year. However, the saving grace was two fold. One the ongoing efforts by Gilles, to keep us informed on when the delayed materials would arrive and a possible start date. Two, the crew leader, Will and the work crew were exceptional. So if I was to recommend Interlock Metal Roofing Halifax to a friend, I would say be prepared to navigate a salesperson that may or may not meet your expectations. Know the costs are high but the metal roofing product is a very good one. I would also encourage them to ask more questions if they require any flat surfaces done. These materials are a disappointment. Not sure if there were other options. And time will tell with how well the material holds up. The bubbling is a concern from an appearance perspective, hopefully it does the job it is intended to do. Communication would be the area for improvement. Primarily from the salesperson. He didn’t always respond to emails or phone messages when there was a concern early on about material delivery. We ended up waiting almost year from the original quote on May 30, 2022 to an actual start date of late start date of mid April 2023. Another area of improvement was the processing of the down payment. Given the length of time it actually took to get the job done because of a long delay in securing materials, it felt unnerving to have given a $16,650.00 deposit and have no work done for almost a year. I will say that Gilles respond to all of my emails and reassured everything would work out. There were periods of time I had doubts and felt like we had been scammed which is not a good feeling when you are dealing with such large amounts of money. In the end the project was completed and we are grateful it all worked out. I have mentioned the concern with the bubbling of the material on the flat surfaces of the roof. If there is something that can be done or if we should be aware of what to monitor with that material, it would greatly appreciated. If you want to follow up with us feel free to call or email.
Interlock Roofing could have given a realistic start and finish date. They could have better communicated where we were along the line. I am very happy to have a roof over our heads. It has a 50-year guarantee. I am 75 years old, so I really don't need the 50 year guarantee. But, it is very nice.
Responded more promptly with my questions about start date.
This is not about Interlock, but I was very annoyed to get a phone call from Guild Quality about this survey at my work phone number. I included my work number so that I could be reached if they needed me urgently, not for a satisfaction survey. I was in a work meeting and had already rejected a phone call on my cell phone from Guild Quality a few minutes earlier. I think it is completely inappropriate to use a work number for a survey.
The project was delayed for two month after the start date, and I had to call several times. The first crew, worked for one day and then quit on us. We had to find a second crew which caused a four week delay. They could improve by adhering to agreed upon start time.
Excellent work....house looks fantastic!!
Of all the companies I talked with, Interlock Roofing was the only one that identified up front the ventilation/moisture problem I had in my attic. They were determined to do the job right. This professional due diligence on their part carried considerable weight in choosing them to do my roof.
We are delighted with our new metal roof. We frequently receive compliments about how well it suits the style of our house. We were very impressed with every aspect of the contract from the first contact with the salesperson to the completion, clean- up of the site and quality control follow-up. The salesperson was very fair in the negotiations over price, the work crew were outstanding and in three days we had a stunning roof that will last our lifetime. Totally recommend these people - you won’t be disappointed. Positive: Responsiveness, Punctuality, Quality, Professionalism, Value
We would recommend Interlock Roofing because the crew were friendly, hard-working, and worked with us to find solutions to low slope roofing meeting our wood shingled walls and venting on main roof. Also appreciated that someone was sent after the job was completed to check we were satisfied.
They could have improved by getting the job done way sooner, they could have been more knowledgeable regarding the roofing. We are sorry that the job took so long to complete and it is very expensive.
We had a curved roof at our entry which could have had a smoother curve at the "flashing" (?).

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Lunenburg
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Lunenburg.
Will a metal roof handle Lunenburg's freeze-thaw cycles without cracking or warping?
Yes—aluminum's crystalline structure resists freeze-thaw damage far better than asphalt, wood, or concrete. With about 84 freeze-thaw days per year on the South Shore, material brittleness becomes critical. Aluminum expands and contracts smoothly without the micro-fracturing that degrades asphalt shingles or splits cedar shake. The four-way interlocking panels (ESR-1790 rated for IBC/IRC codes) accommodate thermal movement while staying locked together, and the Alunar 70% PVDF coating—warranted 30 years against cracking—bonds to the aluminum oxide layer, which self-heals when scratched during winter weather.
How does metal roofing perform under Lunenburg's snow load and ice conditions?
Metal roofs shed snow and ice far more effectively than asphalt because their hard, smooth surface prevents adhesion; ice dams—common with about 133 cm annual snowfall—form when heat melts snow at the eaves, but a metal roof stays colder and reduces internal heat loss, lowering that risk. At roughly 0.41 lb/sq ft for the Shingle profile, the metal itself adds negligible load compared to the 133 cm of snow Lunenburg receives, so no structural reinforcement is needed. Snow guards can be installed if you prefer to manage shed-off. The interlocking four-way design also prevents water infiltration from melting snow percolating between panels during freeze-thaw cycles.
Can a metal roof withstand Lunenburg's coastal wind gusts and winter storms?
Yes—the warranty covers wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h), well above Lunenburg's typical gusts of 141 km/h. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels lock edge-to-edge and end-to-end, creating a unified system that resists uplift and lateral forces typical of South Shore Atlantic weather. This design far outperforms loose-laid or nailed-only systems; when installed to spec, the interlocking mechanism distributes wind load across the entire roof rather than concentrating stress on individual fasteners. Coastal homeowners from British Columbia to salt-air regions have relied on this panel system since 1998 for exactly this reason.
Will a metal roof rust in Lunenburg's salty coastal air?
Lunenburg's coastal salt air accelerates rust on steel or galvanized products, but aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. Instead, aluminum develops a protective oxide layer that self-heals when scratched—a natural electrochemical process. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish is applied to both sides of every panel for extra protection in salt-air environments, and it's warranted 30 years against chalking and fading per ASTM standards. This two-sided coating approach is unique and critical in maritime climates; it shields the back side where moisture and salt can pool in humid, coastal conditions.
How does metal roofing handle Lunenburg's heavy rainfall without leaking?
Lunenburg receives about 1193 mm of rain annually, and metal roofs shed it entirely—water runs off the interlocking panel edges rather than pooling or percolating. The four-way interlocking design means each panel overlaps its neighbors on all four sides; water cascades down and off the seams in a controlled path. Installed over a solid deck with underlayment (standard for most residential upgrades), the system mirrors asphalt shingle protection: the underlayment is the secondary barrier, and the tight interlocking profile is the primary one. When properly installed by a certified professional like Maritime Metal Roofing Ltd., leak risk is lower than with asphalt because there are fewer fastener penetrations and no granule erosion over time.
Does metal roofing help with insurance costs after Lunenburg hail storms?
Interlock Metal Roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Class 4 rating qualifies many homeowners for insurance discounts because the risk of damage-claim payout drops sharply; some insurers recognize this and adjust premiums accordingly. Contact your insurance broker with the UL 2218 Class 4 certification to explore available discounts before installation. The impact resistance comes from the roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) used in the panels—a material engineered for durability in harsh climates, from coastal salt-air homes to Antarctica.
Is metal roofing worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles in Lunenburg?
Metal roofing costs more initially, but it's the last roof you install. Asphalt shingles last 15–20 years in Lunenburg's climate (frequent freeze-thaw cycles and 84 freeze-thaw days per year accelerate degradation); a metal roof carries a lifetime limited material warranty for the original owner, transferable for 50 years to the next owner. Over 40–50 years, you avoid tear-off labor, disposal costs (asphalt creates landfill waste), and replacement material. Currently, Maritime Metal Roofing offers interest-free payments for 3 months and at least $2499 savings on installation, reducing the effective upfront burden. The calculation shifts decisively in metal's favor when you factor in avoided re-roofing within your ownership timeline.
What exactly does Interlock's warranty cover, and how long does it last?
The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited material warranty for the original owner—non-prorated for defects in rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, or loss of impact resistance. This covers the aluminum itself and the Alunar 70% PVDF coating (warranted separately for 30 years against chalking and fading per ASTM D4214 and D2244). The warranty transfers once to the next owner, granting them 50 years of coverage from completion. This structure recognizes that aluminum and fluorocarbon coatings don't degrade like asphalt or wood; Interlock has manufactured these panels since 1998, and real-world performance—from coastal Canadian homes to an Antarctic research station—validates the promise.
Can my existing roof structure support a metal roof, or do I need reinforcement?
Interlock's aluminum profiles are extraordinarily light—the Shingle installs at about 0.41 lb/sq ft, and even the Mediterranean Tile profile weighs roughly 0.59 lb/sq ft, making it about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Most existing residential roof structures in Lunenburg can handle this without reinforcement; many homeowners install directly over their current asphalt roof, reducing labor and debris costs. Your installer will assess local framing and snow-load requirements (about 133 cm annual snowfall), but in the vast majority of cases, no structural upgrades are necessary. This advantage alone saves thousands in foundation or rafter work that would be required for traditional tile or slate.
Who installs Interlock metal roofs in Lunenburg, and how quickly can they schedule work?
Maritime Metal Roofing Ltd. has served the Lunenburg area and South Shore since 2007, making them the local specialist for Interlock installations. They understand regional climate demands—Lunenburg's 22 km/h average winds, 141 km/h gusts, 1193 mm annual rainfall, and 84 freeze-thaw days—and know how to optimize panel profiles and underlayment for this exact environment. They're familiar with local building codes and the ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation requirements. Contact them directly for scheduling; current promotions include interest-free payments for 3 months and at least $2499 installation savings. Having a local, experienced installer matters: proper installation to spec is how the warranty's 120 mph wind warranty and hail coverage become real protections.
