Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for King City, Ontario
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
Our metal roof was installed just under 5 years ago; and had sprung a small leak. I emailed them to have them look into it, as it has a lifetime warranty. Within hours they called me and scheduled a service call for the next morning. Ken came by right on time, and quickly was on the roof looking at potential causes. He identified an area where it looked like the roof was dipping a bit, right above the leak. When he removed the shingles there he noticed there were some nails through the sunroof, and likely the cause of the issue. He placed some membrane, and re-applied the singles. He had also identified some facia boards that could use some caulking to reduce other areas of potential water incursion, and filled those in. Really impressed with Ken and how he’s worked to ensure the problem is resolved.
They could have done the project when they said they would do it. Their schedule was four or five months behind. Also, they were on my roof for 5 months. I did get water leakage which was caused by snow blowing into my attic. The snow melted. They also dug up asphalt in my driveway due to ice which is why I wanted it done in the summer to avoid these weather-related issues. I also found a shingle on the back patio. Hopefully, that didn't cause any harm.
The salesperson was great and did a great job during the presentation.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in King City
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in King City, Ontario. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in King City.
How does a metal roof handle King City's heavy snow and freeze-thaw cycles?
Metal roofs shed snow and ice far more effectively than asphalt because the smooth, hard surface won't hold buildup the way granular shingles do. King City sees about 120 cm of snow annually and roughly 86 freeze-thaw days per year—exactly the conditions where ice dams form on traditional roofs and cause leaks. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels create a continuous surface that ice slides off naturally, and the material itself won't crack or curl from the repeated freezing and thawing that breaks down asphalt. Snow guards are available if you want to control shedding for safety.
Why doesn't aluminum rust like steel roofing, and does that matter in Ontario?
Aluminum contains no iron, so it physically cannot rust—that's chemistry, not a coating trick. Instead, aluminum forms an invisible oxide layer that actually self-heals when scratched, giving it permanent corrosion resistance. In King City, where you get 780 mm of annual rain and variable humidity, this matters because steel roofs eventually corrode from water exposure, especially at valleys and fasteners. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) with a Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish on both sides. No rust, no surprise roof failure, no hidden decay.
Will freeze-thaw damage an aluminum metal roof over time?
No. Aluminum expands and contracts with temperature swings, but it does so uniformly and elastically—it doesn't become brittle or crack like asphalt shingles do after 86 annual freeze-thaw cycles in King City. The metal returns to its original shape without material fatigue. Asphalt loses flexibility in freezing weather and becomes stiff, which is why it splits and curls. Because Interlock panels are installed with engineered fastening that allows slight movement, thermal cycling actually becomes a non-issue. Many Interlock roofs are installed in harsher freeze-thaw zones than Ontario, including high-altitude locations where temperature swings are far more extreme.
Can my house's frame handle a metal roof, or do I need structural work?
Your frame can almost certainly handle it without reinforcement. Interlock's metal roofing is extraordinarily light—the Shingle profile installs at just 0.41 lb per square foot, and even the tile profile, which replicates heavy masonry, weighs only about 0.59 lb per square foot. That's roughly 96% lighter than actual concrete or clay tile. Most homes' framing was built to carry asphalt shingles, which are heavier, so a metal roof is actually easier on your structure. Installation happens over your existing roof in most cases, meaning no expensive decking upgrades and minimal disruption—a major cost advantage in retrofits.
Will a metal roof blow off in King City's wind and storm gusts?
Not if installed to spec. King City's typical gusts reach about 113 km/h, and Interlock's warranty covers wind speeds up to 120 mph—193 km/h—when the four-way interlocking panels and fastening system are installed correctly. The four-way interlock works like a mechanical lock rather than relying only on fasteners; each panel hooks to its neighbors, so even if one fastener were to fail, the system holds. The ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 (reissued 2025) verifies this design for IBC/IRC compliance across North America. Your homeowner's insurance may also offer credits for this level of wind protection.
How does a metal roof perform in hail, and can it lower my insurance costs?
Interlock metal roofing carries the highest impact rating available—UL 2218 Class 4—and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Most homeowner policies recognize this durability and offer discounts on roofs with Class 4 ratings because claims are rare. Unlike asphalt shingles, which dimple, tear, and develop leaks from hail, aluminum panels dent but remain watertight; the metal doesn't lose structural integrity. If a dent bothers you aesthetically, it's surface-only. Contact your insurer with the UL 2218 Class 4 documentation—many will reduce your premium immediately, which helps offset the roof cost.
What maintenance does a metal roof actually need in Ontario?
Minimal. Metal roofs don't need the routine repairs that asphalt requires—no shingle replacement, no moss treatment, no tar patching. Interlock's aluminum construction means no wood rot, no fungal growth, and no granule loss. In King City's climate (117 cm snow, 780 mm rain, about 3017 sunshine hours per year), the main maintenance is occasional gutter clearing and visual inspection after severe weather. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading, so color stays true without power-washing. CALGreen verification confirms reduced maintenance requirements compared to traditional roofing, which translates to lower long-term ownership costs.
Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt over the roof's lifetime?
Yes, when you run the full lifecycle math. Asphalt roofs last 15-20 years and need partial replacement or full teardown every 15-25 years—that's 2-3 roofs in a 50-year period, plus disposal fees, labor, and disruption each time. Interlock's Guardian Warranty is a non-prorated lifetime limited material warranty for the original owner and transferable 50 years for the next owner. You'll realistically buy this roof once. Current regional promotion offers interest-free payments for 3 months and saves at least $2499 on installation, which narrows the gap immediately. Add energy savings, zero maintenance costs, no emergency repairs, and potential insurance discounts, and metal roofing becomes the last roof you buy.
Is metal roofing actually better for the environment than asphalt shingles?
Yes, materially so. Asphalt shingles are torn off every 15-20 years and sent to landfill—a permanent waste stream. Interlock aluminum roofing is approximately 95% recyclable at end-of-life, and the material never degrades in landfills. Because you install once and keep it 40-50+ years, you avoid the tear-off-to-landfill cycle entirely. The aluminum doesn't require virgin mining for every roof in every house; recycled aluminum has the same durability as new and keeps roofing out of waste streams. Over King City's 117 cm annual snowfall and 780 mm rainfall—conditions that demand a durable roof—choosing a product that lasts generations rather than decades is the environmentally responsible choice.
