Got the roof done a few weeks ago — John and CJ did an excellent job with the install. They went above and beyond helping me fix a vent issue we’d been dealing with. I went with the Musket Gray colour, and I’m really happy with how the final product turned out. Highly recommend!

Find my Google review and read about it. Although the project was a success in my opinion, a simple call back or answer to my email, from who I thought was most responsible for installation would have given you a perfect score. There was a breakdown in communication here. Communication workshops for staff to help improve their communication skills may help. Refer to my Google review.

Great experience from the first meeting with Bruce and Brian to close the deal! Then the post installation set up with Tony and the installation with Wyman and his crew was amazing! Bruce and I kept in touch throughout the whole process. We cannot be happier with the purchase and the beautiful look of our new metal roof! Thank you, Arnaldo

Review: October 25, 2021 Completion: September 23, 2021

The installation took a long time. Their communication and upholding their promises is most important. The salesperson should clearly acknowledge those promises. They don't know what they are doing. They need to acknowledge their procedures on how they are going to do them and explain what materials they are going to use. The demolition is most important. If they are going to show up with an iPad, they should show me how they are going to install the product. I do not know if this would be the first time they install the product using one nail only.

Review: June 8, 2021 Completion: May 10, 2021

The process was terrible. The customer experience was absolutely abysmal! It was absolutely horrible. It was horrid!! They kept postponing the installation. The managers were not responsive at all. They kept putting me off like it wasn't important. Emails kept being sent out, and it wasn't a priority to them. They did things on their own time. They have terrible service and terrible communication. I had a horrible overall experience.

Review: November 24, 2020 Completion: November 1, 2020

Tony Alpalfa, the installer, was amazing. I even had a comment from my builder when Tony was installing one of the valleys. My builder said most installers would have the valley installed in 5 minutes. Tony took 30 minutes as it was a challenging valley to install.

Review: August 23, 2019 Completion: August 1, 2019

Interlock Roofing completed the work well, but all the banging on the roof messed up my garage door opener, so I had to get someone to fix that. Overall, Interlock Roofing did an exceptional job.

Review: June 18, 2019 Completion: May 7, 2019

The duratration of the install was way to long. I am still picking up metal pieces nail and shingles from my yard. Most of the time one person was here to install should have been done in less than 2 plus weeks

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Markham

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Markham, Ontario. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Markham.

How does a metal roof handle Markham's 117 cm of annual snowfall?

Aluminum panels shed snow and ice far more effectively than asphalt because their smooth, hard surface prevents ice adhesion and provides no friction grip for snow accumulation. Markham receives about 117 cm of snow per year across roughly 86 freeze-thaw days, which repeatedly weakens asphalt shingles through expansion and contraction. Interlock's four-way interlocking design keeps water from penetrating seams even under snow melt cycles. Optional snow guards can be installed if you want to control roof runoff, but the metal itself resists ice-dam formation that plagues traditional roofing in freeze-thaw climates.

Will freeze-thaw cycles damage an aluminum metal roof?

No. Aluminum actually thrives in freeze-thaw climates because it expands and contracts uniformly without cracking or splitting—properties that asphalt shingles and wood cannot match. Markham experiences approximately 86 freeze-thaw days annually, plus 780 mm of rain and about 117 cm of snow, creating ideal conditions for shingle failure. Aluminum's oxide layer self-heals when scratched, so seasonal stress does not compromise the material. The ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 confirms suitability for IBC/IRC standards nationwide, including regions with severe moisture and temperature swings.

Can metal roofing withstand Markham-area wind gusts?

Yes, reliably. Markham's typical wind gusts reach 113 km/h, and Interlock panels are warranted to resist winds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. The four-way interlocking design distributes lateral forces across adjacent panels, preventing the edge-lifting and blow-off common to asphalt shingles in strong gusts. Each panel locks on all four sides, creating a unified system rather than 3,000 independent shingles vulnerable to wind. This structural redundancy is why Interlock carries a wind warranty that asphalt cannot match.

Why won't an aluminum metal roof rust like steel roofing?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron; iron is the element that oxidizes and corrodes in wet conditions. Instead, aluminum develops a thin, self-healing oxide layer that protects the underlying metal from moisture and salt air. Markham's climate delivers 780 mm of rain annually, creating persistent moisture that would accelerate rust on steel. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 aluminum (ASTM B209) with a dual-sided Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating warranted 30 years against chalking and fading, adding a second barrier that steel roofing cannot offer.

Can I install a metal tile roof over my existing roof without reinforcement?

Yes. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile installs at approximately 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so no structural reinforcement is required. Most homes can accommodate the weight over an existing roof, eliminating the cost and disruption of tear-off and structural work. This matters in Markham, where carrying 117 cm of snow plus 780 mm of annual rainfall creates meaningful structural load. Because the aluminum tile weighs less than 1 pound per square foot, you gain authentic aesthetic appeal without engineering modifications or contractor delays.

What's the hail rating on metal roofing, and will my insurance recognize it?

Interlock panels achieve UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This non-combustible, impact-resistant construction often qualifies homeowners for insurance premium discounts with carriers that recognize Class 4 ratings and metal roofing durability. Markham's climate includes periodic severe weather, and a roof that survives hail without requiring replacement or claims activity is attractive to insurers. Contact your carrier to verify eligibility for discounts when you upgrade; many offer 5–15% reductions for Class 4 metal roofing.

How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or tile?

Aluminum metal roofing requires far less maintenance than asphalt, wood, or clay tile. Asphalt shingles degrade continuously under Markham's 3,017 annual sunshine hours and freeze-thaw stress, requiring gutter cleaning and periodic sealing. Metal roofing is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance: gutters only need seasonal clearing, and the hard surface sheds debris without absorbing moisture or supporting algae growth. No caulking, no recoating, no wood rot risk—aluminum simply weathers in place. The 30-year coating warranty against chalking and fading means your roof maintains appearance and protective value without intervention.

Metal roofing carries a higher upfront cost than asphalt, but the lifetime limited Guardian Warranty and energy savings create compelling economics. A typical asphalt roof lasts 15–20 years in Markham's 86 freeze-thaw days and 780 mm annual rainfall—requiring 2–3 replacements over 50 years, plus tear-off costs, landfill fees, and repairs. Aluminum lasts decades longer, transfers once to the next owner with 50 years of coverage, and energy-efficient colors reflect heat (initial solar reflectance up to 0.55) that asphalt absorbs, lowering cooling costs. Current regional promotion offers interest-free payments for 3 months and savings of at least $2,499, making the lifetime investment competitive or cheaper than serial asphalt replacements.

How much does metal roofing cost, and how does it compare to asphalt over 50 years?

Do metal roofs reduce air-conditioning costs in summer?

Yes. energy-efficient Interlock colors achieve initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, reflecting the heat that asphalt shingles absorb and radiate into the home. Markham's 3,017 annual sunshine hours means significant cooling load during warm months; a reflective roof measurably reduces AC runtime. Cool Roof Rating Council certification confirms measured reflectance at installation and after aging. The difference compounds over decades: while energy savings vary by home orientation and insulation, reflective metal roofs consistently outperform dark asphalt in solar heat gain, offsetting a portion of the premium through lower utility bills.

Does Interlock have local installers serving Markham?

Yes. Interlock Metal Roofing (Ontario) Ltd. has served the region since 1998, bringing 25+ years of local expertise to Markham and surrounding areas. The company manufactures panels in Delta, BC, and draws on proven installation experience from coastal salt-air homes to Antarctic research stations, ensuring knowledge of how aluminum performs under diverse conditions. Local service means faster response times, familiarity with Markham's building codes and climate stress patterns, and accountability within the community. Pair this with the current promotion—interest-free payments for 3 months and savings of at least $2,499—and you benefit from established local reputation and simplified financing.
